Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Jimmy Witherspoon

Evenin' Blues
Prestige/Original Blues Classics, 1964. Used
A great batch of raw R&B vocals from Jimmy Witherspoon – along with backing by an excellent group that includes the great Clifford Scott on tenor, the always-great T-Bone Walker on guitar, and the little-known Bert Kendrix on organ. Tracks are short, and have a bit more fire than some of ... CD

Tony Bennett/Bill Evans

Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album
Fantasy/OJC, 1975. Used
If you've ever doubted the real jazz sensibility of Tony Bennett, then this is an album to change your mind – because Tony's working here in a marvelously unadorned setting – with only the piano of Bill Evans to back him up! The record's a rare gem from years after Bennett was cracking ... CD

Beautiful Billie from the last years of her life. The material was recorded in 1956 and 1957 in Hollywood, featuring Barney Kessel, Ben Wesbster, Harry Edison, and Jimmy Rowles – all grooving nicely in small group formation. The tracks have a wonderfully fragile quality – and although ... CD

Lionel Hampton & Stan Getz

Hamp & Getz
Norgran/Verve, Early 50s. Used
A great little album that's one of Getz's strongest from the period! The format for the album is in the mode of Hampton's early 50s Verve sides – long tracks, very open-ended, cut in a small group format that shows a different side than his more popular big band grooving. There's only 5 ... CD

Alice Coltrane

Ptah, The El Daoud
Impulse, 1970. Used
Our favorite-ever album by Alice Coltrane – a masterpiece of spirit and soul, recorded in a wonderfully open-handed style! The album's mostly a spare batch of tracks cut by Alice and her trio with Ron Carter and Ben Riley – but also features some guest work on sax by Joe Henderson and ... CD
Atlantic, 1959. Used
A true giant step for John Coltrane – and one of the first albums to really showcase his talent as a writer – and his amazing ability for penning some of the most soulful, spiritual themes in jazz! Apart from the well-known title cut, the record's filled with other Coltrane classics ... CD
Columbia, 1972. Used 2 CDs
Massive double-length Miles from the early 70s – some of his most inventive long form work of the time, and some of his funkiest too! The album stretches out with almost an improvised jamming sort of quality – tunes that begin sparely, then have the musicians stepping in as the groove ... CD
