Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Nat Adderley

In The Bag
Jazzland/OJC, 1962. Used
An excellent early Nat Adderley record that has the funky trumpet player groovin' in the company of a number of bright young players from New Orleans, including Nat Perrilliat on tenor, Ellis Marsalis (yes, that one) on piano, and James Black on drums. Sam Jones plays funky bass, and brother ... CD
Galaxy/OJC, 1979. Used
An overlooked later gem from the great Nat Adderley – one of the first records cut after the passing of his brother Cannonball, and a set that shows that Nat was definitely ready to carry on the groove! Familiar bandmate Victor Feldman's in the combo alongside Nat's cornet – and Vic ... CD

Dusko Goykovich

Balkan Connection
Enja (Germany), 1995. Used
A lesser-explored corner of the career of trumpeter Dusko Goykovich – and a great one! The album has Dusko working in a bigger band mode than usual – leaving behind the smaller groups of other sessions for a larger ensemble comprised of younger Eastern European players. The feel of ... CD

Pepper Adams

Julian
Enja, 1975. Used
A great quartet date – nice and laidback, with plenty of room for Pepper Adams to open up on his deep-toned baritone sax! The group features Walter Norris on piano – and titles include "Ad Astra", "Jirge", "Spacemaker", and "Three & One". CD

Roy Brooks

Duet In Detroit
Enja (Germany), 1983/1984/1987/1989. Used
Seminal work from the Detroit underground of the 80s – 4 sets of duets recorded by drummer Roy Brooks, each with a different hip player! The material was recorded over the course of 4 different performances in 4 different years – but the album has a really unified feel in the way that ... CD

Michele Rosewoman

Quintessence
Enja, 1987. Used
Features Michele Rosewoman on piano – with Steve Coleman on alto, Greg Osby on alto and soprano sax, Anthony Cox on bass, and Terri Lyne Carrington on drums. CD

Archie Shepp

Steam
Enja (Germany), 1976. Used
A later set from Archie Shepp and a real lost gem – quite different from his earlier works, especially the better known late 60s sessions – and a surprisingly nice album that runs through some truly excellent longer takes – filled with warmth and tenderness you wouldn't expect! ... CD

Barry Harris

Live At Dug
Enja (Germany), 1995. Used
Barry Harris recorded live in Tokyo – working at the intimate Dug nightclub, with backing from Japanese players Kunimitsuj Inaba on bass and Fumio Watanabe on drums! The style here is in the warmer side of the Harris spectrum – sometimes introspective, sometimes a bit more grooving ... CD

Elvin Jones

Youngblood
Enja (Germany), 1992. Used
Plenty of young blood here – a trio of powerful horn players who really make the set stand out nicely! Elvin Jones proves once again that his ear for a horn is almost as great as his work on the drums – and having chosen the trumpet of Nicholas Payton, and tenors of Javon Jackson and ... CD

Peter Erskine

Peter Erskine
Contemporary/OJC, 1982. Used
A great bit of soulful fusion from drummer Peter Erskine – one of the few albums he made as a leader of this nature, even though his playing graced lots of other wonderful records at the time! The approach here is tight, but never too much so – smooth, but never slick – a warmly ... CD
