(Cover has a cutout notch and a bumped corner.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Shirley Horn

Lazy Afternoon
Steeplechase (Denmark), 1978. Very Good+
Nice album recorded during a time when Shirley Horn's talents were lesser-known to the world than in her current revival. The set's got Shirley playing piano and singing in a very sweet trio with Buster Williams and Billy Hart. The material's mostly standards, but as usual, Shirley manages to get ... Anita O'Day & Cal Tjader

Time For Two
Verve, 1962. Very Good+
A great little meeting of two of the better talents on Verve Records in the early 60s – one that pairs the warm vocals of Anita O'Day with the cool vibes of Cal Tjader – in a sweet little session that's actually one of O'Day's best from the time! The feel here is lively, and slightly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ella At Duke's Place
Verve, 1965. Near Mint- Gatefold
A beautiful classic from mid 60s Verve – and the kind of a session that we wouldn't have expected to come off so well! Ella Fitzgerald

Hello Dolly! (2nd cover)
Verve, 1964. Near Mint-
A definite shot at the pop market by Ella Fitzgerald – quite possibly recorded as a follow-up to the 60s success of former singing partner Louis Armstrong, who's referenced nicely in Ella's rendition of the title hit! The first 4 tracks on the set were done in the UK, under the leadership of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ella In Hollywood
Verve, 1961. Very Good+
A nice little Verve session that breaks from the usual format – especially the "Songbooks" one – and features Ella in LA with small group backing by Jim Hall, Lou Levy, Wilfred Middlebrooks, and Gus Johnson. The set was recorded live at the Crescendo – in a jazzily ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1957. Near Mint-
Quite an interesting little record from Rose "Chi Chi" Murphy – a singer with a really unique style! For the session, Rose accompanies herself on piano – playing in a lightly skipping mode that's a great pairing with her breezy, bird-like vocals. The style's a bit like ... LP, Vinyl record album

Anita
Verve, 1956. Very Good
One of the strongest of Anita's mid 50s outings for Verve – a tightly-crafted set that benefits from some good arrangements from Buddy Bregman!
