Very Good - (minus)
Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play,
but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic,
with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a
cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner
and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay,
though probably with surface noise.
Condition Notes
If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially
if it is release or pressing details,
or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
There's a pretty loose theme to this one – because although the album's supposed to have a "calender" concept, one in which Gloria runs through tunes for every month of the year, the adherence to this mode is a bit loose, and the choice of songs hardly reflects the months. Still, ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic from Jimmy Rushing – recorded at a time when he was really finding a new audience for his vocals! In a style that Columbia was using on a number of sides in the late 50s and early 60s, Jimmy and Buck do a bit of educatin' – and trace a progression of jazz styles from New ... A near-lost album from Sammy's years at Reprise – and an album that's got that nice bouncey style that the label was using with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra in the 60s! A lot of the thanks goes to producer Sonny Burke, who inflects Sammy's vocals with a punched-up set of rhythms that makes ... LP, Vinyl record album
From its booze-soaked title cut, to its haunting selection of lonely ballads like "Midnight Sun" and "Stranger Called The Blues", this is one of the most fantastic vocal jazz albums of all time – and a record that we'd recommend instantly to anyone! June Christy has an ... LP, Vinyl record album
The sweeter side of Gloria Lynne – a set of dreamy numbers, sad tunes, and ballads, with backings by Leroy Holmes. Titles include "Please Be Kind", "Bali Hai", "A Hundred Years From Today", "My Prayer For You", "Intermezzo", "Long Ago ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantastic Roulette Records material from Sarah Vaughan – and exactly the kind of set that demonstrates the new level of maturity she hit at the label! The cover and title might make you expect a Wee Small Hours sort of record, but the approach is more varied, and really shows off all of ... LP, Vinyl record album
A cool session for Decca that has Carmen McRae's vocals flowing out wonderfully amidst some very haunting backings! The sound here is a bit unusual – given that the groups are headed by accordion Mat Mathews and pianist Dick Katz – both of whom have a good ear for unusual phrasing, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
