April In Paris – Live

LP (Item 517676) Milestone, 1961 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Thelonious Monk

Thelonious Himself
Riverside, 1957. Very Good
A classic outing of solo piano by Thelonious Monk – a format that wasn't used often, but which always made for some really compelling work! Monk in this mode is often different than the bolder leader of a trio or larger group – and there's a more introspective quality to the record ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thelonious Monk

Unique Thelonious Monk
Riverside, 1956. Very Good+
The session's billed as "very personal treatments of great standards" – and it's a great twist on familiar material, all given the Thelonius touch! There's less of Monk's creative composition and angular group arrangements going on here – and instead, the album's almost a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thelonious Monk

Criss-Cross
Columbia, 1963. Near Mint-
A title and cover that beautifully illustrate the sharp-edged power of the Thelonious Monk quartet on Columbia – and a wonderful place to start if you're just digging Thelonious' music! The record is similar to the best of Monk's Columbia sides – in that it revisits older tunes and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Misterioso (Riverside)
Riverside, 1958. Near Mint-
A key classic from Thelonious Monk's years at Riverside – and an album that's as compelling as its haunting title! Thelonious Monk

Solo Monk
Columbia, 1965. Near Mint-

Thelonious Monk

Monk.
Columbia, 1964. Very Good+
Beautiful Columbia work from Thelonious Monk – a record that has as much warmth and charm as it does visionary modernist moments! A number of the tunes are standards, not Monk compositions – and they're done here with a sense of depth and joy of exploration that's really wonderful ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ron Carter

Peg Leg
Milestone, 1978. Near Mint-
A great step in the evolution of Ron Carter from brilliant bassist to even more brilliant leader! The album's cut at a time when Carter was really moving his instrument from the back to the front – playing piccolo bass more than usual, and plucking with a pronounced groove, even in the ... Bill Evans

Interplay Sessions
Riverside/Milestone, 1962/1982. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A real standout in the Bill Evans catalog for Riverside – and that's saying a lot, given how important all of his Riverside albums are! The core session's a rare quintet outing for Evans – one that breaks the mode of the usual trio format by adding in Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Jim ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ron Carter

A Song For You
Milestone, 1978. Near Mint-
Ron Carter's such a great player, he can always shine in so many modes – bringing the bass not just into the forefront of a tune, but taking into places that other musicians wouldn't reach! Here, he's going for a nicely laidback vibe that mixes light jazz funk with a bit of strings – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Rollins

Don't Stop The Carnival
Milestone, 1978. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Despite the title, which seems a bit silly, the album's actually one of Sonny's best from the 70s – an open-ended live set, recorded with a group that features both electric and acoustic piano, plus guitar and electric bass in the rhythm section – making for a nice slightly funky groove ... Riverside/Milestone, 1960. Sealed 2LP Gatefold
Two great early 60s albums from Johnny Griffin – back to back in a single set!
