Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Don Cherry

Complete Communion
Blue Note, 1965. Used
Arguably the best of Cherry's albums for Blue Note – and a real masterpiece of soulful avant playing! The group features Cherry on cornet, Gato Barbieri on tenor (and he's incredible, by the way!), Henry Grimes on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. Grimes and Blackwell are more than just ... CD
Atlantic (Japan), 1957. Used
The MJQ always manage to sound especially great when working on music for film – and this album's a great illustration of that fact! The work here is written by John Lewis, for a movie that never lasted the test of time as much as the record – and it's some of John's most evocative ... CD
Verve (Japan), 1966. Used Gatefold
A stone classic on Verve! Back in the 60s, Wes Montgomery must have been California Dreamin – because by the time of this LP, he'd come a long way from his Indiana roots – and had used the best part of the hip west coast scene to add a lot to his style – fuller rhythms and ... CD
Venus (Japan), 2001. Used
Beautiful ballads from Archie Shepp – one of his later dates for Venus Records, recorded with a soulful, subtle sound that's totally great! The Shepp heard here is hardly the freewheeling player of 60s avant years – and is instead an aging master of the tenor who manages to draw on ... CD
RCA (Japan), 1971. Used
A rare opportunity to hear Toshiko Akioshi on her own – especially given that she's mostly featured in a bigger band setting at the time! The album's a great reminder that Toshiko still had plenty of her early fire on the keys at this point – because although spare, the tracks are ... CD
RCA/Sony (Japan), 1971. Used 2CD Gatefold
A landmark session that gathered together just about every hip British jazz and jazz/rock musician of the time – and brought them together into one super-cool orchestra of sound! Robert Fripp produced the record, and Keith Tippett is the overall music director – but the album's got a ... CD
Blue Note (Japan), 1965. Used
A great album by Lee Morgan – and one not to pass up! The Rumproller often gets too easily lumped next to The Sidewinder – because of an obvious title and cover similarity to that hit record – but like that one, the album's far more than jazz cliche – and shows Lee Morgan ... CD

Chick Corea

Leprechaun
Polydor/Verve, 1976. Used
Titles include "Soft & Gentle", "Imp's Welcome", "Lenore", "Reverie", "Looking At The World", and "Nite Sprite". CD

John Lewis

John Lewis Piano
Atlantic (Japan), 1957. Used
One of the strongest sessions recorded by pianist John Lewis in the 50s – a date that shows depths of his talents that run even greater than his work with the Modern Jazz Quartet, quite possibly because is work on piano is at the forefront of the record throughout! There's a sense of ... CD
Blue Note, 1962. Used
An amazingly simple – but amazingly satisfying session from Dexter Gordon! The group's a totally solid quartet with Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums – and the groove is right in the pocket with a solid solid soulful feel that you don't always get ... CD

Jeri Southern

Southern Style
Decca/Universal (Japan), 1955. Used
The Southern Style here is a great one – a small jazz combo approach to backings, with Jeri on piano, supported by just a bit of bass and drums! This sort of mellow, intimate album was rare for a singer of Southern's stature at the time – and Jeri takes keen advantage of it in her ... CD
