Ok, so you were once embarrassed to have this in your collection – and sold it off so your buddies at college wouldn't make fun of you. Now, though, you treasure it as a crossover Latin Funk classic – with the kind of soaring guitar/organ grooves that were the brilliant sound of the 70s for the West Coast scene, a whole new way of playing Latin Soul that blew away the New York sound of the late 70s. Titles include "Persuasion", "Evil Ways", "Savor", "Jingo", "Soul Sacrifice", and "Shades of Time". (70s pressing.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Welcome
Columbia, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Sadly, it's really easy to dismiss Santana, if only for his having been elevated to iconic status among hippies and classic rock lovers, in spite of the fact that he made a number of great records. This early 70s effort finds him moving in a more jazzy direction, with supple rhythms underpinning ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cheap Thrills
Columbia, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
Cheap Thrills, maybe – but they cut deeply and last forever! This is one of greatest albums by Big Brother & The The Holding Company – and it's also one of the most important in cementing the legacy of singer Janis Joplin. The raw manic energy of the group at their live best is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Pearl – Live!
Prophesy, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold
Nice bit of rockin' funky soul by a band that we know little about, but who seem to be an LA rock band that's obsessed with soul music. The LP contains a great 11 minute version of "Cold Sweat", played with a lot of funky vamping by the band in a JB's style. There's also a nice version ... LP, Vinyl record album
