LP, Vinyl record album

4.60 5

A different album than some of guitarist Rodney Jones' more spiritual work – maybe a bit more spacious and sensitive overall, in a style that shows off a whole new side of his sound! Rodney plays both 6 and 12 string guitars – and the session features a fair bit of keyboards from Kenny Kirkland – often used in these laidback ways that glide along with the breezy style of the guitar. The rest of the group features Fred Lipsius on some reeds, Marcus Miller on bass, Buddy Williams on drums, and Rick Cutler on percussion – all coming together in a warmly soulful groove on titles that include "The Gift", "Gaze", "Just Because", "The Joy Of Now", "Another Bag", and "Song For Jan". (Cover has unglued seams & some light wear.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jamfs Are Coming
Timeless, 1979. Very Good
The Jamfs are definitely coming on this one – as Johnny Griffin opens up into some of his most badass soloing of the 70s, caught here in an open-ended European styled mode! Oh By The Way
Timeless (Netherlands), 1982. Sealed
A casual title, but a hell of a cooker from the legendary Art Blakey – one of those great albums from his overlooked run during the 80s – a time when he still had plenty of fire, and the same continuing dedication to the best young players around as he did during the Blue Note years of ... Argo, Early 60s. Very Good
A strange one for Argo, and certainly not in keeping with their usual soul jazz roster of recordings – but also a cool moody session recorded in Scandinavia, and which features the icy piano of Rune Ofwerman, backed by a chorus of voices, for a floating dreamy sound that slightly hints at the ...
