The massive debut of Leaders Of The New School – a short-lived spur of the Native Tongues posse, and one that's noteworthy for the early work of a young Busta Rhymes! Right from the start, LONS had plenty of support – including early mentoring from Public Enemy, and a warm reception from the rest of the scene – which resulted in great anticipation and reception for this instant classic set! The album's got some loose themes about high school – no surprise, as the group's Charlie Brown and Busta weren't far from their years in school at the time – but it also sets the tone for so many other records to come, and is really a key release in these pivotal hip hop years! Titles include "Case Of The PTA", "Too Much On My Mind", "What's The Pinocchio Theory", "Sobb Story", "Sound Of The Zeekers", "Feminine Fatt", "Transformers", "Show Me A Hero", "Trains Planes & Automobiles", "Teachers Don't Teach Us Nonsense!", "My Ding ALing", and "Where Do We Go From Here".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, jewel case edition. Booklet & barcode has a cutout hole. Traycard has a crease.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Prince Of Darkness
Cold Chillin/Reprise, 1991. Used
Not the great early Kane, but not the sad later Kane either. Includes "The Lover In You", "Git Bizzy", "Raw '91", "Prince Of Darkness", "Ooh, Aah, Nah-Nah-Nah", "Brother Brother", "Groove With It", "I'm Not Ashamed", ... CD
LaFace, 2001. Used
A nice retrospective of the ATL's dynamic duo! The set includes three brand new tracks – "The Whole World", "Funkin' Around" and "Movin' Cool (After The Party)" plus 13 other tracks pulled almost equally from Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, Aquemini, ... CD

Digital Underground

This Is An EP Release
Tommy Boy, 1990. Used
Maybe just an EP, but a short set that's every bit as important to the Digital Underground catalog as their full length albums – as the whole thing is overflowing with the kind of funky tracks that made these guys a standout right from the start! The set's only got six tracks, but that maybe ... CD

Esbe

Bloomsday
Cold Busted, 2018. Used
Wonderful, atmospheric hip hop instrumentals from Esbe! While the sounds might be a little less explosively psychedelic the fungal rocket launch on the cover, trust is that's a good thing – this one has some blissfully hazy jams, nicely unpredictable changes in beats, and lots of cool little ... Notorious BIG

Ready To Die
Bad Boy, 1995. Used
Biggie's masterpiece! There's very little we could possibly say about this east coast landmark that isn't already etched in stone in the annals of hip hop history. Biggie's a master storyteller, whether he's spinning tales of violent street nihilism, his skills beneath the sheets, or blistering ... CD

Tribe Called Quest

Midnight Marauders
Jive, 1993. Used
A masterpiece from prime era Tribe Called Quest! Midnight Maurauders was Tribe's third LP, and even though there were no tracks yet credited to the Ummah, this is pretty much the beginning of Tribe's transition to that sound – with the same mellow, laid back vibe as their best early material ... Rich Medina

Connecting The Dots
Kindred Spirits, 2005. Used
A pretty nice set of sprawling, souful and thoughtful hip hop and much more from Rich Medina and guests! Medina's ambitious, yet quite still quite cogent styles bridge underground hip hop, house and club groove, and even a bit of a spoken word-learned effect on the vocals that really meld for a ... CD

Otis Junior & Dr Dundiff

Hemispheres
Jakarta (Germany), 2017. Used
A duo who really take the hemispheres in their title seriously – as lyrics and vocals are all by Otis Junior, and the album's spare rhythms and instrumentation are from Dr Dundee! Otis is a hell of a frontman – as he's got this laidback, raspy style that really fits the open, honest ... CD
Bethlehem/Solid (Japan), Mid 50s. Used
An incredible album from Mel Torme – easily his best set ever, and a record that helped raise the bar for all other singers back in the 50s! A key part of the success of the set is the presence of Marty Paich as an arranger – as Marty swings the whole thing with a fluid groove that's ... CD
