Battle Of Algiers

LP (Item 475473) United Artists, 1967 — Condition: Very Good+
A relatively dramatic score from Ennio Morricone– as you might guess from the military title! Some of the tunes here have a very strong military feel, but others move into surprisingly sweeter territory – that more mainstream side of Morricone's sound, but still pretty great – with full strings swelling up in lush sounds that are very compelling. There's also some subtly spooky sounds on a few of the numbers – the odd instrumental moments that Morricone could sneak in nicely on a score like this – conducted perfectly by orchestra director Bruno Nicolai. Titles include "Theme Of Ali", "Tortures", "Clandestine Marriage", "Battle Of Algiers March", "Sorrow In The Casbah", and "Algiers November 1 1954".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mikis Theodorakis

Phaedra
United Artists, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A really dark little soundtrack – penned by Mikis Theodorakis for Jules Dassin's remake of the Phaedra myth! Georges Delerue

King Of Hearts
United Artists, 1967. Sealed
A nice little Georges Delerue score to this quirky and sentimental film from the mid 60s. The tunes are all relatively short – and a mixture of Delerue's usual French-tinged themes with other tracks that have a bit more of a regal composure, in keeping with the performance of Alan Bates in ... A pretty tense score – especially for Lalo Schifrin, who we normally know for his groovier soundtracks!
