Wildflowers 3 – The New York Loft Jazz Sessions

LP (Item 40539) Douglas/Casablanca, 1977 — Condition: Near Mint-

One of those excellent Wildflowers albums – featuring underground sessions recorded during the New York loft jazz scene of the 70s. Randy Weston plays "Portrait Of Frank Edward Weston" in a trio; Andrew Cyrille & Maono play "Short Short"; Ahmed Abdullah plays "Blue Phase" in a group with Charles Brackeen; and Dave Burrell's trio play "Black Robert".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover is lightly bent around the edges.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Verve, 1961. Near Mint-
While actually not as electrifying as some of Dizzy's other albums from the time, this one's still pretty darn great, and features his great group with Leo Wright on alto and Lalo Schfrin on piano. The band grooves with a subtly Latinish vibe, and the tracks are nice and long long long. Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pres (Charlie Parker)
Charlie Parker, Early 50s. Near Mint-
No real date or personnel on this one, and the album's a live set recorded, most likely, at some time in the 50s. The quality of the recording isn't great, and you hear a heck of a lot of crowd noise – but the work's an interesting document of Pres during the period, as the tunes are all ... Stan Getz/Jimmy Rowles

Peacocks
Columbia, 1975. Near Mint-
A real standout in the Stan Getz catalog of the 70s – a session of mostly spare duets with pianist Jimmy Rowles, done in a way that really breaks from the format of Stan's other work of the time! Rowles here has a raspy warmth that brings out new voicings in Getz's tenor – an ... LP, Vinyl record album

A masterful fusion set from guitarist Lee Ritenour – one that expands his sound a bit more than usual by adding in vocals on a number of tracks – but in a way that really gets at the mainstream soul influences that bubble through his jazz work!
