Proof that Anthony Braxton on his own could generate as much excitement as a whole group of other players! The album's a key work in the tradition of Braxton's seminal For Alto session for Delmark – played on alto sax as well, and featuring Braxton in solo exploration of a variety of original compositions – all named with unique mathematical formulas, but delivered with an intensely personal sound that's anything but academic! Braxton's work on the alto here is some of the greatest of the time – an exploration of realms of the instrument hardly ever expected – and a rich journey that takes along bits of Parker, Stitt, and Konitz – but comes up with a sound that can only be described as Braxton at his purest!
