The sound of today, circa 1966 – served up by flute man Herbie Mann, who was always at the forefront of music at the time! Herbie's great lead lines are set up nicely in arrangements from Oliver Nelson – those cool, groovy, super-swinging styles that Nelson could hit so perfectly at the time – and which really make the album a great standout in Mann's 60s run for Atlantic Records! The core group features some other great players, too – most notably a young Jimmy Owens on trumpet, plus Dave Pike on vibes – and Carlos Patato Valdes brings in some great Latin percussion at the bottom, to help inflect the rhythms with a special sort of edge.
