We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Salsoul, 1980. Very Good
A killer dancefloor stormer that never gets old, not even after it was illegally sampled by Black Box. The cut's a great one, and is the record that will forever be Loleatta Holloway's most remembered – and for good reason! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Island, 1985. Near Mint- (pic cover)
One of the group's biggest moments – a catchy pop Go Go number, lifted from the soundtrack to the film Good To Go, and filled with plenty of thundercrashing electronic beats! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sire, 1981. Very Good+ (pic cover)
The super-huge hit – done up here in the full 12" version, which also features the cut morphing into "Where Did Our Love Go". 2 60s soul covers for the price of one! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sire, 1983. Very Good- (pic cover)
What can we say? Despite the stupid appearance of the band, "White Horse" was a classic breakdance/electro track that crossed over so big it had kids in Kansas running out to by parachute pants and squares of linoleum to play along with the kids in the Bronx. Despite that runaway hit ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Welcome Aboard/Strange
Unlimited Gold, 1981. Very Good
The great Webster Lewis joins Love Unlimited Orchestra for this excellent later track from the group – the slowly funky "Welcome Aboard", a tight mellow track with an excellent stepping groove. Darn hard to find on LP – and even better on 12" single! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Vanguard, 1982. Very Good
Produced by Greg Carmichael, and one of his key sides for Vanguard! 12-inch, Vinyl record
MAW, 1995. Very Good
The first release on their MAW imprint, from Kenny Dope ("Ken") and Little Louie Vega ("lou"), with a great percolating cut on the a-side, that epitomizes the sound we called "underground" around here, and a harmonica laced club stomper on the flip. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Pic Hit, 1984. Very Good+ (pic cover)
Obscure mid 80s work by The Whatnauts – recorded after "Help is On The Way". The first two tracks are more in an 80s groove/funk mode – not really the best style for the group – but the cut "All I Need" is really a gem! The track's a smooth mellow love song ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
