I Keep Coming Back For More

LP (Item 2065) Chocolate City, 1977 — Condition: Near Mint-
Also available
Brenda & The Tabulations — I Keep Coming Back For More ... CD 7.99
Sublime second generation soul from Brenda & The Tabulations – a sweet set of Philly grooves, recorded at Sigma sound with help from Norman Harris, Bobby Eli, and John Davis! The album's every bit as groove-heavy as you'd expect from work by those dancefloor heavyweights – and the record's a great change from the earlier style of Brenda and the group – more positive and progressive, yet still with a few of the fragile ballads that first got them noticed! There's a great sense of class and poise to the record – a progression from the early years that's similar to that which many other Philly artists experienced with Gamble & Huff – almost more surprising here, given that sometimes a Casablanca record didn't come out with the same sort of care. Titles include "Superstar", "Home To Myself", "I Keep Coming Back For More", "Let's Go All The Way Down", "Leave Me Alone", and "Everybody's Fool".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(UK pressing on Casablanca/Pye. Cover has unglued seams.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Scepter, 1974. Near Mint- Gatefold
The monumental debut of BT Express – and an excellent funk album that often gets overlooked by fans of the music because of the band's bigger fame as a disco group! This first record has the combo grooving hard and instrumentally – in the mode of a tight blacksploitation soundtrack, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Ayers

Vibrations
Polydor, 1976. Very Good+
One of Roy Ayers' greatest albums of the 70s – a set that tightens up the groove from previous Polydor productions, yet still keeps all the soul intact! The record picks up the style begun with the Mystic Voyage album, and pushes it to some slightly tighter territory – a more focused ... LP, Vinyl record album
CTI, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
The first album from Seawind – and a killer batch of jazzy soul tracks all the way through! The set's easily one of the hippest to come out on CTI in the 70s, although with the record's strong use of vocals, it also feels a bit more like some of the work coming out on Fantasy at the time ... Okeh/Epic, Mid 50s/1982. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Essential 2LP set of rare R&B material from the legendary Okeh label – known to many as one of the 50's best labels for the genre! Sure, you'll find a few hits on here – like Screamin Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On Your" – but the real nice bits are the obscurer ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Henderson

In The Night Time
Buddah/Arista, 1978. Near Mint-
Smooth mellow soul by Michael Henderson – taking up where he left off with his work with Norman Connors, and proving that he was an even better vocalist than bassist. The overall sound of this one's perhaps a bit slicker than his first 2 albums on Buddah – but there's still some strong ... LP, Vinyl record album
Motown, 1960s. Near Mint-
Given how much you hear this sort of stuff on the radio, you could easily forget that the Four Tops are actually a heck of a great vocal group, with harmonies that blew away many of their contemporaries, and which keep their work shining long past the hits. This second volume of hits has 12 tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gloria Gaynor

I've Got You
Polydor, 1976. Near Mint-
A really wonderful little set from Gloria Gaynor – crossover disco, to be sure, but done with styles that clearly draw from the best aspects of the Philly and Miami scenes of the time! The arrangements are full, but nicely rough at times – spun out in an almost-indie mode that matches ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bar-Kays

As One
Mercury, 1980. Near Mint-
The Bar-Kays definitely groove as one on this tight little set – with amazing choppy guitar, bumping basslines, and brassy horns – all wrapped up with some wonderfully warm production! The group have come a long way from their fuzzier funk roots by this time, but they're still sounding ... LP, Vinyl record album

Saturday Night Fever
RSO, 1977. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Yes, it was a mega-hit – and yes, it was one of those records that everyone who lived through the 70s seemed to own at one time – but after all these decades, you can't deny the power of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack – especially for the way that it mixed club soul classics ... Eddie Lockjaw Davis & Johnny Griffin

Breakfast Show
Prestige, 1965. Very Good
A massively hard-blowing set from tenor giants Johnny Griffin and Eddie Lockjaw Davis – one of those superb Prestige 60s albums that paired the talents of the two in a live setting! Junior Mance plays piano, in a trio with Larry gales on bass and Ben Riley on drums – and Griff and Lock ... LP, Vinyl record album

Freddie Hubbard

Blue Spirits
Blue Note, 1965. Near Mint-
Quite an unusual session for Freddie Hubbard – one of his most modernist albums for Blue Note, recorded with a larger group that includes James Spaulding on alto and flute, Joe Henderson (or Hank Mobley) on tenor, McCoy Tyner on piano, and the surprising inclusion of Kiane Zawadi on euphonium! ...
