Lots of dark guitar from Bill Frisell, and some dark guitar synth too – played with a colder sound than usual for ECM, but in ways that make a nice change for the label! Some of the songs have a stop/start sort of feel – almost as if they're trying to find themselves – and Frisell's joined by Kenny Wheeler on trumpet and cornet, Bob Stewart on tuba, Jerome Harris on electric bass, and Paul Motian on drums.
