Club Soul

LP (Item 156283) Kent (UK), Late 60s — Condition: Near Mint-
A killer early Ace/Kent compilation, put together for the UK 6T's soul club – with work from Candy & The Kisses, Lee Charles, Chuck Jackson, George Tindley, Diane Lewis, Brenton Wood, Jack Montgomery, Honey Bees, Nella Dodds, Johnny Copeland, Big Maybelle, The Esquires, and The Moods!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kent, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Rudy Ray Moore's second album, and almost hipper than the first – thanks to some key musical backings from The Fillmore St Soul Rebellion! The vibe here is as rough and raw as you'd expect – a no-holds-barred version of party records, with Rudy using plenty of language hardly heard ... LP, Vinyl record album

Soul Of A Man
Kent (UK), Late 1960s. Very Good+
A great early Kent/Ace compilation – vinyl only, and with work from The Gentlemen Four, Tony Drake, Tommy Hunt, Cicero Blake, Benny Gordon, The Masqueraders, Johnny Copeland, Msarvin Preyer, and others – lots of rare soul! LP, Vinyl record album
Kent, Late 60s. Very Good+
An obscure late 60s session that has R&B genius Roy Milton fronting a small group led by Johnny Otis, and featuring a young Shuggie Otis on guitar! The set's packaged in a "roots of rock" sleeve to cash in on the kids, but it's a pretty nice little set with a stoner R&B sound. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rudy Ray Moore

Sensuous Black Man
Kent, Early 70s. Very Good+
Rudy Ray Moore cut some mighty raunchy records in his time – but this one may well the be the raunchiest, and maybe the funkiest too! The album's an instruction of "the proper way to make love to a lady" – but done in true Rudy Ray style, with very down-to-earth language that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rudy Ray Moore

Dolemite For President
Kent, 1972. Near Mint-
Rudy Ray Moore takes the White House – or at least tries to – in this cool 1972 album that must have been a great antidote to the campaigns of Richard Nixon and George McGovern! The set starts with Rudy running his way through a whole bunch of campaign issues – including "Fre ... LP, Vinyl record album
Kent, 1972. Very Good+
One of two albums produced by Rudy Ray Moore – the other being The Sensuous Black Man – which define the art of making love from a gender-based perspective. Like Rudy's Sensuous Black Man, The Madam's version features one side of "instructional" dialogue – very XXX-rated ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funk Factory

Funk Factory
Atco, 1975. Near Mint-
A massive bit of funky fusion from the 70s – an album that was crucially overlooked at the time, but which has gone onto become a crate-diggers classic over the years! The group's fronted by Polish jazz legends Michal Urbaniak and Urszula Dudziak – but it also features a fair bit of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isley Brothers

This Old Heart Of Mine
Tamla, 1966. Near Mint-
The Isley Brothers on Motown – a really key step forward for the group, who find a whole new level of soul with help from the Holland Dozier Holland team! There's a warmth here missing from previous Isleys material – that rough edge that was more part of their rocking years, softened a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Norman Connors

Romantic Journey
Buddah, 1976. Very Good+
A warmly romantic journey from the stellar Norman Connors – but a set that's also got a fair bit of spiritual jazz undercurrents too! Norman's at that perfect Starship point in his career – giving equal space to the vocals and instrumental passages on the record – at a level that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Funkadelic
Westbound, 1970. Near Mint-
One of the darkest records to ever come out of the Detroit soul scene! As you might guess from the title, the album is Funkadelic's first – and it's a swirling mass of psychedelic guitars, echoey drums, and bass-heavy riffing, all topped off by the band's harmony vocals, which sound like a ... Barry White

Stone Gon'
20th Century, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of The Maestro's true materpieces! Fragile, sexy, sinful soul, held together by interwoven strings and keyboard lines, with Barry's voice over the top like rich cream on a sweet piece of cake. Includes the long versions of "Honey Please, Can't Ya See" and "Never, Never Gonna ... LP, Vinyl record album
