James Brown Plays The Real Thing

LP (Item 13388) Smash, 1967 — Condition: Very Good+
Smoking stuff – and a tasty album of organ instrumentals that has James Brown on the Hammond, and Pee Wee Ellis leading the band behind him! The record's got a lot of cuts that are longer than the usual James Brown instrumentals from the time – which means more solo work, more interesting grooves, and more of the stuff that makes tracks like these cook! Titles include "What Do You Like", "Pee Wee's Groove In D", "D Thing", and "Funky Broadway".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Not as well-known as James Brown's live albums from the Apollo, but a really cooking set from the 60s that keeps up a plenty hard groove all the way through! Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day! Mid-period Stylistics, recorded after their association with Thom Bell and Linda Creed, and during the time that the group was handled by Hugo & Luigi. Many Facets Of Roger
Warner, 1981. Near Mint-
There's many facets of Roger – and they're all pretty darn funky! From this vantage point, all we can think of is that Roger Troutman must have had some sort of crystal ball to see into the hip hop sampling future – either that, or he was busy cooking up west coast gangster funk drones ... Stone Jam
Cotillion, 1980. Very Good
We couldn't think of a better way to describe the sound of Slave than "stone jam"!
