It Could Happen to You

LP (Item 125754) Charly (UK), 1982 — Condition: Sealed
Features Akkerman on guitars, Kenneth Knudsen on keyboards, Pablo Nahar on bass, and Ole Theill on drums.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue, still sealed. Cover is slightly curled at the top right corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jan Akkerman

Aranjuez
CBS, 1978. Near Mint-
One of the most sensitive 70s albums from guitarist Jan Akkerman – a set recorded with larger backings from Claus Ogerman, who really helps Jan find a newly mellow side of his sound! Gone are some of the too-jamming, rock-inspired modes of Akkerman's other records – and in their place ... LP, Vinyl record album

Didier Malherbe

Bloom
Charly (UK), 1980. Very Good+
An overlooked 80s album from reedman Didier Malherbe – best known for his 70s experiments in jazz and prog! The style here continues that mode, but adds in a touch of fusion – but all in a way that's very tasteful, and much cooler than the cover might make you expect! LP, Vinyl record album

John Coltrane/Wayne Shorter/Coleman Hawkins/George Coleman/Von Freeman

Masters Of The Tenor Sax (5LP Set)
Affinity/Charly (UK), Late 50s/1960s/Mid 70s. Near Mint- 5LP Set
80s UK package deal that includes Affinity pressings of "Coltranology Vol 2", "Second Genesis", "The High & Mighty Hawk", "Big George", and "Young & Foolish". LP, Vinyl record album

Wayne Shorter

Super Nova
Blue Note, 1969. Near Mint-
A pivotal record for Wayne Shorter – as the set opens up with a hint of the direction he'd take in the 70s, especially some of the music he'd create with Weather Report! The album's not a straight fusion outing, though, and it does have a fuller group than a fusion combo – yet there is ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1966. Near Mint-
Herbie Mann got a standing ovation for this performance – at least if the title is to be believed – and considering the grooves on the set, it was all for very good reason! The album's one of the few to feature Mann in the company of pianist Chick Corea – who steps out here with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Duke Ellington

All American In Jazz
Columbia, 1962. Near Mint-
A lesser-known Ellington set from the 60s – tracks from the lesser-remembered musical, with alto from Johnny Hodges, trumpet from Ray Nance, and tenor from Paul Gonsalves! Titles include "Our Children", "Nightlife", "I've Just Seen Her", "Back To ... LP, Vinyl record album
Milestone, 1980. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
McCoy Tyner's a hell of a piano player on his own, but in the post-Coltrane years he also developed an amazing talent for picking sidemen too – as you'll hear in this very unique set! The record features four different quartets – hence the title – each of which features a core ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery

Further Adventures of Jimmy & Wes
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
The second great session from two of Verve's biggest jazz stars of the 60s – organist Jimmy Smith and guitarist Wes Montgomery – an unlikely pair, to be sure, but one who work great together on the set! The real change here is in Wes' playing – as it's shifted from the mellower ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laurindo Almeida & Ray Brown

Bach Ground – Blues & Greens
Century City, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An excellent session of bossa groovers with a slightly classical tinge, played by Ray Brown on bass and Laurindo Almeida on guitar. The set's got a similar feel to some of Ray's other groovy work from the time – like his remake of Jobim's score to the Adventurers. Includes the great groover ... LP, Vinyl record album
Muse, 1987. Near Mint-
A great little record by Jimmy Ponder – recorded late in the 80s, but with some nice touches that give the record more of an early 70s jazz funk groove – almost a style that hits the Prestige sound at times! John Patton's in the group on organ – making one of his best appearances ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1974. Very Good+
A compelling little record from guitarist Dom Minasi – a player we only know from these few Blue Note albums cut right toward's the label's initial run – sweet albums that might have pushed Dom further, had they gotten better exposure! Minasi's a pretty talented guitarist – with ... LP, Vinyl record album
