Maybe one of the freshest Prince projects of the 90s – as the record has a stripped-down vibe that often features a fair bit of acoustic guitar in the mix – these nicely lean songs that really showcase his singing and songwriting strengths without too many beats or funky production touches in the way! Prince's vocals are still great in this mode – sparkling with a wonderful sort of honest, earnest energy – and titles include "The Other Side Of The Pillow", "Fascination", "Dionne", "Man In A Uniform", "The Truth", "Don't Play Me", "Welcome 2 The Dawn (acoustic)", "One Of Your Tears", and "Animal Kingdom". LP, Vinyl record album
A real comeback classic for the solo Pete Townshend – with titles that include "Slit Skirts", "North Country Girl", "The Sea Refuses No River", "Communication", "Uniforms", and "Somebody Saved Me". CD
We can remember when this movie spooked the heck out of us – and now it remains as a charming period piece from the days when New York was overrun by gangsters dressed up in baseball uniforms or overalls – representing a version of the Big Apple during the bankrupt 70s that's turned out to have more longstanding charm than the gang in Clockwork Orange! The music's very well-suited in a period style – a sweet mix of Latin, funk, rock, and soundtrack spookiness – with titles that include "Echoes In My Mind" by Mandrill, "Baseball Furies Chase" by Barry De Vorzon, "In Havana" by Kenny Vance & Ismael Miranda, "Nowhere To Run" by Arnold McCuller, and of course the classic "In The City" by Joe Walsh. A fantastic soundtrack recorded in the immediate post-Tropicalia years – featuring some of the best early 70s work by Chico Buarque, Nara Leao, Maria Bethania, and others! The cover has a mad image with Buarque, Leao, and Bethania in top hats and shiny uniforms – and the music follows up with a similarly lively spirit – samba-esque, with other touches of rock and jazz production that give the work an expansive and trippy feel. Roberto Menescal handled the arrangements – and titles include "Cacada" by Chico Buarque, "Mais Uma Estrela" by Nara Leao, "Soneto" by Orquesta De Cordas, "Soneto" by Nara Leao, "Partido Alto" by MPB-4, "Formosa" by Nara Leao & Maria Bethania, "Baioque" by Maria Bethania, and "Cantores De Radio" by Chico, Naria, and Maria together! LP, Vinyl record album
