✨✧ Nara LeaoO Canto Livre De Nara ... LP
Philips (Brazil), 1965. Good ... Out Of Stock
Incredible early work by Nara Leao – some of the most groundbreaking vocals of the bossa era! The arrangements are by Luiz Eca, pianist of the Tamba Trio – and backing is by a small group that includes Eca, Dori Caymmi, and other jazz-tinged players. The overall quality of the backings sounds a lot more like an album recorded five years after the mid 60s – and Nara's mix of bohemian hip and honest bossa sincerity really makes the tracks sparkle wonderfully. Titles include "Samba Da Legalidade", "Canto Livre", "Corisco", "Carcara", "Aleluia", "Incelenca", and "Suite Dos Pescadores". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Fold-over cover looks great, save for a small split on the spine, a small sticker, and a name in pen. Vinyl has deep marks on all parts.)

✨✧ Grupo BatuqueSamba De Rua ... CD
Far Out (UK), 1997. Used ... Out Of Stock
A tasty session of tracks recorded in Brazil, during the Carnival in Rio! The Far Out team took a bunch of legendary Brazilian percussionists into the studio and recorded this album of funky batucada tracks that includes the cuts "Mama Samba", "Ona Leve", and "Percussion Livre". Wilson Das Neves, ex-leader of Os Ipanemas, heads up the group, and other featured players include Mamao, Chacal, and Zezinho. Groovy batucada sounds, with the usual high Far Out quality. CD

Novos BaianosAcabou Chorare (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Som Livre/Polysom (Brazil), 1972. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $40.99 48.99
Certainly one of the greatest albums by this excellent (and oft-overlooked!) group from the 70s! The band of young Bahians deliver a great mix of tracks tinged with bits of rock, funky samba, and even a few psychedelic influences – with alternating male and female vocals, and some excellent songwriting that places the record right up there with some of the best work by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil from the same time! We love this one to death, and find it to be one of the few records by the group that we return to again and again – a real post-Tropicalia classic that's filled with great songs. Tracks include "Preta Pretinha", "Besta E Tu", "A Menina Danca", "Swing De Campo Grande", and "Tinindo Trincando". LP, Vinyl record album

Novos BaianosE Ferro Na Boneca (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Som Livre/Polysom (Brazil), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $40.99 42.99
A totally great album from Novos Baianos – the earliest one we've ever seen by the group, and a session that has them sounding a fair bit like Os Mutantes! There's a wild range of influences running through the set – some psychedelic, some baroque pop, and some a bit more rootsy – as the group would explore more deeply in the mid 70s – and throughout the set there's a great sense of play in the music, the kind of tongue in cheek quality that we love in Os Mutantes, and which we never expected so strongly from these guys! Titles include "O Samba Me Traiu", "Ferro Na Boneca", "Eu De Adjetivos", "Outro Mambo Outro Mundo", "Colegio De Aplicao", "A Casca De Banana Que Eu Pisei", "Juventude Sexta E Sabado", and "De Vera". ✨✧ Marcos ValleColecao Sucessos ... LP
Som Livre (Brazil), 1991. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Nice set that has Marcos reworking some of his older tracks, with the same sort of R&B-styled sound that you'll hear on his other Som Livre albums from the early 80s! The groove has a good modern soul feel, and about 50% of the tracks are instrumental. Titles include "Samba De Verao", "Sei La", "Tapa No Real", "Viola Enluarada", "A Paraiba Nao E Chicago", "Mais Que Amor", and "Naturalmente". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some light wear and a small mark from an old sticker – vinyl is nice!)

✨✧ Jorge BenAlo Alo, Como Vai? ... LP
Som Livre (Brazil), 1980. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Tighter than Jorge Ben's funky work from the early 70s – but still pretty darn great! The record's got Jorge working in a smoother vein than on his Philips sides, with the same sort of modern soul approach that Marcos Valle and other older Brazilian singers were using at the time. But since Jorge's always been a soulster from the start, the style works perfectly for his warm vocals and his keen talent for putting over a groove. Arrangements have kind of a brassy funky samba groove – and titles include "Ma Ma Ma Ma Mae", "Solitario Surfista", "Olha A Pipa", "Cae Cae Caetano", "Alo Alo, Como Vai?", and "A Cegohna Me Deixou Em Mardureira". LP, Vinyl record album
