B-52sB-52s ... LP
Warner/Rhino, 1979. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99 23.98
A hell of a debut from The B-52s – and a record that's become surprisingly timeless over the years, despite a retro-styled approach by the group! These guys aren't the silly group of later years here – and instead, they've got this moody darkness that's wonderful – a re-envisioned postwar America, one in which the neuroses are all on the outside – served up with instrumentation that's stark, but incredibly tight – snapping drums, riffing guitar, and these great organ lines that sound beautiful next to the vocals of Fred and the girls. The set gave the group their perennial hit "Rock Lobster" – but taken as a whole, it's an incredibly different landscape – as you'll discover on tracks that include "Planet Claire", "52 Girls", "Dance This Mess Around", "Lava", "There's A Moon In The Sky (Called The Moon)", "Hero Worship", "6060-842" and "Downtown". B-52sWild Planet ... LP
Warner/Rhino, 1980. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99 23.99
They may look goofy on the cover, but the young B-52s are incredible here – working with this spare sense of power that almost makes us think that we didn't need most of what happened in rock and roll during the 70s – given the way these guys can distill a mood or moment down to just a few deft instrumental turns and offbeat lyrics! The record's not punk, but it's also not new wave either – at least in the conventional way – and there's a darkness here that goes way past any simple cliches you may have associated with the band – a haunting feel that transcends most of what they were ever capable of in later years. We might even say this one tops their debut – and titles include "Party Out Of Bounds", "Dirty Back Road", "Runnin Around", "Give Me Back My Man", "Private Idaho", "Devil In My Car", "Quiche Lorraine", "Strobe Light" and "53 Miles West Of Venus". Rhino/Stax, 1960s. Used ... $4.99
What can we say? Booker T and crew are always tops in our book – and this album's as strong a batch of their classic singles as you'll ever find! Book's organ is the sound of a generation, and Steve Cropper's sinister vamping on guitar gives even the poppier tracks a hard edge that still sends shivers down our spine! The set's got 16 tracks than run the gamut of the group's years at Stax – including "Green Onions", "Soul Dressing", "Boot-Leg", "Hip Hug Her", "Mo Onions", "Soul Limbo", "My Sweet Potato", "Slim Jenkins Place", "Time Is Tight", "Slum Baby", and the amazing jazzer "Melting Pot". A classic! What seemed a silly idea at the time was true proof of Ray's genius, and the result was the most successful album of his career – and a bona-fide number one hit that rode the charts for years and years! Ray's voice works perfectly with the material, and thanks to soulful arrangements by Gil Fuller, Marty Paich, and Gerald Wilson, the whole thing comes off to perfection. Titles include "You Don't Know Me", "I Can't Stop Lovin You", "Careless Love", "You Win Again", and "Worried Mind". CD

Atlantic/Rhino, Late 50s/Early 60s. Used 2 CDs ... $18.99
Sure, they were hitmakers – but we love these guys, and find them to be one of the most radical vocal groups of all time! Under the impeccable guidance of Lieber & Stoller, the group recorded some of the fiercest vocal numbers of the 50s – mixing incredibly soulful vocals with an almost cartoonish ability to conjure up little pictures with words. This 50-track, 2CD set is an amazing tribute to the group's genius – and it includes a wonderful range of material that begins with their early days as The Robins, and which runs up to later sides cut as funky 45s for the Date label in the late 60s. Features the great funk numbers "Soul Pad", "DW Washburn", and "Down Home Girl" – plus totall excellent doo wop tunes like "Shoppin For Clothes", "Hitchin A Ride", "Girls Girls Girls", "The Slime", "Hongry", "Hey Sexy", "The Shadow Knows", "Sorry But I'm Gonna Have To Pass", "One Kiss", "What Is The Secret Of Your Success?", "Idol With The Golden Head", "Besame Mucho", "Stewball", "What About Us", and "Along Came Jones". Ornette ColemanFree Jazz (with bonus track) (Deluxe Edition) ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, 1961. Used Gatefold ... $5.99
The title gets it right – as the album's easily the closest thing to free jazz that Ornette Coleman ever recorded – an album-length improvisation played by a "double quartet" that's overflowing with classic players! The style here is a fair bit like John Coltrane's Ascension album for Impulse – and like that one, the session features Ornette and his contemporaries really stretching out – blowing like never heard before on record, and working in a highly unstructured setting! Other players include Eric Dolphy on bass clarinet, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, and Scott LaFaro on bass – alongside regular group members Don Cherry on pocket trumpet, Charlie Haden on bass, and both Ed Blackwell and Billy Higgins on drums. One long track – just titled "Free Jazz" at 37 minutes! Also includes the bonus track "First Take" at 17 minutes! CD

John ColtraneColtrane's Sound (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino (UK), 1960/1966. Used ... Just Sold Out!
One of the more obscure John Coltrane albums for Atlantic – but a beautiful batch of spiritual numbers that really show him pushing towards the sound of A Love Supreme! The date on the album's 1966, but the material was recorded earlier – in that key turning point year of 1960, when Coltrane really started to let loose with his new ideas – ideas so fresh, in fact, that they might have kept this record from getting released at the time! The group here features piano from McCoy Tyner, drums from Elvin Jones, and bass from Steve Davis – an oft-overlooked talent who did some amazing work with Coltrane during this brief time. The tracks are open, flowing, and filled with imagination – and Coltrane works both on tenor and soprano sax, on titles that include "Liberia", "Equinox", "Satellite", "Central Park West", and a classic reading of "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes". CD features an alternate take of "Body & Soul", plus the track "26-2". CD

Rhino, 1980. Used ... $19.99
An album with a very mod-looking cover – and a set that's also overflowing with lots of mod-styled tracks to match – a cool current of soul from the 60s, but still handled with the sharper 70s vibe of young Attractions! Production is by Nick Lowe – and although The Jam were also turning towards more soul-styled sounds at the time, Elvis and Lowe may well have done them one better with this set. Titles include "Love For Tender", "Opportunity", "The Imposter", "Secondary Modern", "King Horse", "Possession", "High Fidelity", "Riot Act", "Human Touch", "Beaten To The Punch", and "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down". This edition also comes with an expanded booklet, restored art, archival photos, and new liner notes by Elvis – plus a bonus disc with 30 freakin' extra tracks! Lots of unreleased tunes, live versions, alternate versions, demos and more: "So Young", "Girls Talk", "Getting Mighty Crowded", "Dr. Luther's Assistant", "Just A Memory", "Hoover Factory", "Ghost Town" and sooooo many more. 50 songs on two CDs! Some of the grooviest pop to ever hit the dancefloor – a collection of early 90s tracks by the mighty Deee-Lite! The trio are a key link between the house influences bubbling in pop and soul at the end of the 80s, and some of the more sophisticated grooves to come – and although they cracked the charts and MTV plenty with their playful, colorful sense of style, the group are also still one of the best of their generation at blending together a range of different sounds and styles! The 20 track set has all the dynamic energy of the group's single albums at their best – an explosion of delightful surprises at each new twist and turn. Great work from The Drifters – and a set that features material both from the group's years with Clyde McPhatter in the lead, and from the later versions of the group in the early 60s! Both sides of The Drifters are totally great – as you'll hear in this stunning set of cuts recorded for Atlantic Records – massive material that starts with a hard-edged vocal group 50s style, then moves into some even more complicated 60s soul modes, particularly during the group's time working with Lieber & Stoller. 30 tracks in all – with titles that include "Please Stay", "Some Kind Of Wonderful", "This Magic Moment", "Money Honey", "Such A Night", "What'cha Gonna Do", "Adorable", "Ruby Baby", "Fools Fall In Love", "Bip Bamp", "Honey Love", "At The Club", "I've Got Sand In My Shoes", and "Saturday Night At The Movies". A fantastic meeting of two generations of soulful music – Sheila E, the daughter of Cali Latin soul genius Coke Escovedo, meets up with the snappingly funky world of Prince – and results in one of the strongest records of Sheila's career! The singer/percussionist had already been around for about a decade on record – turning out some great Latin work with her brother Pete in the Bay Area – but this set has Sheila going of the top with a great Paisley Park groove, really working with lots of influences from Prince, but still also getting plenty of Latin elements of her own into the mix – on long tracks that are filled with wonderful rhythms and plenty of great percussion too! The seminal debut of The Grateful Dead – a record that was maybe as important to the American psychedelic scene as the first two albums by Pink Floyd were to the UK! Like those sets, this one almost seems to come out of nowhere – still very much a part of its time, with trippiness and fuzz that other groups were certainly working with – but put together at a level that's very much its own thing, and which is undeniably worthy of all the copycats who paid it tribute in years to come. There's maybe a deeper current of blues roots here than in later years of The Dead – but in the best way possible – and titles include "The Golden Road", "Beat It On Down The Line", "Cold Rain And Snow", "Morning Dew", and "Viola Lee Blues". Green Day as in command of killer hooks and stomping choruses as ever! Nimrod was bit underappreciated by longtime fans growing weary of Green Day's aging process towards the late 90s, but it's got a well earned and slowly built reputation as a fan favorite nowadays. With the formula of unapologetically appropriated craft well in place – proudly working in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of pop punk – there's some pretty smart and honest vulnerability in the lyrics, with the fellas well aware that getting older doing what they do is a tricky thing to pull off. Given that they're as popular as ever deep in the next millennium, they clearly got it right! Atlantic/Rhino, 1965/1966. Used ... $11.99
Wow! We can never get enough of Eddie Harris. Despite all of the silly situations he's ended up in over the years, an album like In Sound still stands as a beautiful testament to all of the raw power in Eddie's playing. His tone is perfect, and totally unique – and he plays here with Cedar Walton on piano, Ron Carter on bass, Billy Higgins on drums, and the great Ray Codrington on trumpet, who also played with the JFK Quintet. No tricks here, just incredibly solid jazz playing, on tracks like Eddie's famous "Freedom Jazz Dance", plus "Born To Be Blue" and "Cryin' Blues". Mean Greens is another example of classic 60s soul jazz material by Eddie – and proof that the move to Atlantic was a good one! As usual with Eddie's 60s sessions, the players are very hip – and feature an amalgamation of younger and lesser-known talents like Melvin Jackson, Ray Codrington, and Sonny Philips. Cedar Walton also plays some lovely piano on the record, giving a few tracks a bit more of a lyrical touch than usual – and Eddie responds to this nicely in his solos. Includes an early take of "Listen Here", with Eddie on electric piano, next to Sonny Philips' organ. Also with "Goin' Home", "Blues In the Basement", and "Mean Greens". CD

Forget his 50s hits, forget his gospel work – this is the sound of Little Richard that we totally love! Back in the early 70s, Richard came back with a vengeance, and recorded some great albums for Reprise – all done in a style that was hip, chunky, and funky – still filled with the same sort of energy of his earlier sides, but done in a style that was perfect for the early 70s crossover crowd. There's a nicely messed-up mix of soul, funk, rock, and R&B going on in the tunes – and Richard's working here with help from Quincy Jones, HB Barnum, Bumps Blackwell, and the Fame Studios team – all of whom push Richard way way way out of his usual bag! The 3CD set features the full tracks from the albums The Rill Thing, The Second Coming, and King Of Rock & Roll – plus tunes from the soundtrack to Dollar, and the full tracks from Southern Child, a record that was due to come out in 1972, but never issued at the time! Plus, there's a huge amount of additional gems pulled from singles, radio spots, and other unreleased tapes – with titles that include "The Rill Thing", "Money Is", "Do It To It", "Midnight Special", "Green Power", "Thomasine", "Mississippi (inst)", "Over Yonder", "Puppy Dog Song", "Radio Spot A", "In The Name", "Sneak The Freak", "Ain't No Tellin", "Brown Sugar", "Greenwood, Mississippi", and "Second Line". Charles Mingus at Carnegie Hall – but playing here with relaxed and intimate feel that's not what you might expect from the staid setting! The original album features two long tracks – both done in more of a jam session mode than any other Charles Mingus recordings we can think of. Both numbers are Ellington classics – "C Jam Blues" and "Perdido" – showcasing Mingus' late fascination with the Duke, but in a way that still preserves all of the modern inventions of his own earlier work. As on much of the best Mingus albums from the time, there's a real focus on the strengths of the soloists here – players who include Roland Kirk on tenor and stritch, Hamiet Bluiett on baritone, Jon Faddis on trumpet, John Handy on alto and tenor, Charles McPherson on alto, and Don Pullen on piano – all of whom really play with some sharp edges and bold notes! This great expanded version features more very long tracks – over 70 minutes of unreleased music, with versions of "Celia", "Big Alice", "Fables Of Faubus", and "Peggy's Blue Skylight" – as well as Mingus' introduction of the music. Joni MitchellLive At Canturbury House – 1967 (180 gram pressing 3LP set) ... LP
Rhino, 1967. New Copy 3LP Gatefold ... $57.99 59.98
A rare treasure from Joni Mitchell – live material recorded at a venue in Ann Arbor, captured here a year before her initial studio album on Reprise Records! The huge package brings together songs from three different sets – nine of which have never been issued before – and there's also a fair bit of conversation from Joni between the songs, presented at a level that shows just what a unique talent she was right at the start – a standout songsmith, and a singer who brings all these inflections to the music that show that she was already breaking free of her roots in folk music! Titles include "Urge For Going", "Morning Morgantown", "Little Green", "The Circle Game", "I Don't Know Where I Stand", "Both Sides Now", "Carnival In Kenora", "Songs To Aging Children Come", "Cactus tree", "Free Darling", "I Had A King", "Play Little David", "The Dowie Dens Of Yarrow", "The Gift Of The Magi", "Chelsea Morning", "Come To The Sunshine", "Conversation", "Marcie", "A Melody In Your Name", and "Ballerina Valerie". Red MitchellRed Mitchell ... CD
Bethlehem/Rhino, 1956. Used ... $8.99
One of the first-ever sessions as a leader from west coast bassist Red Mitchell – a great start to a career that definitely showed that Red was always a cut above the usual rhythm player! The album features some very nice arrangements that open things up in a west coast mode that's never too playful, but which brings the bass out from the back, but still leaves plenty of room from some solo stars in the lead. Key to that approach is saxophonist Joe Maini – who steps out on the record with a voice on alto and tenor that's totally great, heard here in one of the most unfettered settings Joe ever received. Conte Candoli also serves up some bold trumpet lines, alongside work from Hampton Hawes on piano, and Chuck Thompson on drums – on titles that include "Section Blues", "Jam For Your Bread", "Duff", and "You Go To My Head". Van MorrisonAstral Weeks ... LP
Warner/Rhino, 1967. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
Van's debut album for Warner Brothers and a pretty radical departure from anything he'd done before – breaking all kinds of new ground for his own most creative work and helping pave the way for all kinds of hauntingly poetic rock, folk rock, and singer-songwriter records to come! It doesn't take hearing more than a few seconds of the opening title track, with Morrison's rawly passionate voice and spiritually yearning lyrics, to know this is a pretty remarkable creative leap from pop leaning sound of "Brown Eyed Girl" and other preceding efforts! It's almost folk jazz, arrangements wise, with flute and largely acoustic instrumentation, a really spontaneous feel to the sessions, and always hypnotic, seemingly stream of consciousness vocals by Van. As loose and spacious as the sound is, the emotional resonance is pretty heavy, and it's sequenced as a cycle: part one (In The Beginning) on side 1 and part two (Afterwards) on side 2. A stunner! Titles include "Astral Weeks", "Beside You", "Cyprus Avenue", "Sweet Thing", "Slim Slow Slider", and "Madame George". LP, Vinyl record album

PoguesPogues – BBC Sessions 1984 to 1986 ... CD
Rhino, Mid 80s. New Copy ... $13.99 14.98
A fantastic addition to the Pogues recordings of the classic years – material recorded in a variety of settings for BBC Radio broadcasts, all of which really capture the group at their best! There would be occasional BBC tracks as b-sides on initial UK singles over the years, but this set is the first time that the material's been collected together in bulk like this – and it's almost like having an extra album from the generation of Rum Sodomy & The Lash! As with other BBC recordings, the tracks are done live, but with an intimacy that's different than a concert or venue performance (the boys were maybe a bit less drunk too) – and the quality is excellent throughout. The set features 22 tracks in all – One early session for John Peel, plus another Peel session – and more for the David Kid Jensen Show, Phil Kennedy Show, and two more for the Janice Long Show. CD

John PrinePink Cadillac (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Asylum/Rhino, 1979. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99 23.99
John Prine's got a slightly more stylish look on the cover here, and the record's got a slightly more stylish sound as well – production by Knox and Jerry Phillips (sons of Sun Records' Sam Phillips) – who set up Prine's amazing vocals and songs with a bit of a Tennessee vibe – not really country rock, as the album's very much John's own – but a slightly different feel than his previous work. There's also a slight touch of the Sun Records history here – guitar from Billy Lee Riley on one cut, and a few tunes that aren't Prine's own – but the whole thing still comes together at a level that's right up there with his best 70s classics. Tracks include "Chinatown", "Automobile", "Killing The Blues", "Saigon", "Cold War", "Side Of The Road", "How Lucky", and a remake of "Ubangi Stomp". LP, Vinyl record album

The compilation that capped off a younger John Prine's early years at Atlantic Records – and if it might have come off as a bit prematurely titled at at time given the treasure trove of "best of" level material Prine would record for decades to come, there's no question after all these years ther is plenty of genuinely prime Prine songs here! John's Atlantic albums still stand as some of the finest folk rock ever put out by the label, hislyrics and vocals that distinctive mix of wit and grit, Arif Mardin's production smart enough to keep things spare and intimate when necessary, and to bring in some lusher touches at times. Includes "Sam Stone", "Saddle In The Rain", "Pease Don't Bury Me", "Grandpa Was A Carpenter", "Donald & Lydia", "Illegal Smile", "Sweet Revenge", "Souvenirs", "Come Back To Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard" and "Hello In There". ✨✧ ReplacementsLet It Be ... LP
Twin Tone/Rhino, 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
The masterpiece by one of the greatest, most sincere rock bands of all time! Let It Be veers all over the place, or at least as much as jangly rock music can, in the best way possible. Includes the pseudo twangy opener "I Will Dare", with the distinctly midwestern hardcore of the group's earlier years showing up on "We're Coming Out" and "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out", and Westerberg's great heart-on-sleeve, ragged balladry appearing for the closers. Like the Meat Puppets and X, the 'Mats really found themselves after they shed the rigid rules of punk rock, and developed into something every bit as honest and heartfelt. They followed the rock songbook just enough to keep their work warm and familiar, but with way too huge and hard-pounding heart to ever seem even the least bit derivative. Hell, they even make Kiss's "Black Diamond" sound sincere! Other tracks include "Favorite Thing", "Androgynous", "Unsatisfied", "Seen Your Video", "Gary's Got A Boner", "Sixteen Blue" and "Answering Machine". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ SpinnersMighty Love (plus bonus tracks) ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, 1974. Used ... Just Sold Out!
About as classic as you can get for The Spinners – and one of the group's marvelous 70s collaborations with the mighty Thom Bell! Before hooking up with Philly, The Spinners were already a wonderful vocal group – but here, in the hands of Bell, they hit a sound that's completely sublime – a mix of well-crafted harmonies and well-directed backings – soaring one minute, gently fragile the next – all delivered with the same sort of charm that you might expect from Blue Magic or The Stylistics at their best. Like those groups, The Spinners here manage a depth that goes way beyond simple hitmaking soul – as you'll hear on the album's wonderful assortment of tracks that include "Mighty Love", "He'll Never Love You Like I Do", "Love Don't Love Nobody", "Ain't No Price On Happiness", "Since I Been Gone", and "I'm Glad You Walked Into My Life". Rhino, Late 60s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... $30.99 33.99
One of those few classic cases where a compilation of tracks was maybe even more influential than the original music itself – as this early 70s collection of 60s material turned out to shape and influence generations for decades to come! Guitar genius Lenny Kaye put the set together famously for Elektra Records in 1972 – as a reminder that, just a few years before, there were some amazing sounds that were not only brewing up in local indie scenes around the country, but also on the radio as well – even though most of those groups had been pushed into relative obscurity by the rise of soft rock, hard rock, and classic rock of the early 70s! The package is a return to the pre-prog years, with an especially strong ear for garage-tuned tracks that would go on to shape later punk, 80s indie, and lots more underground sounds in the future. Titles include "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" by Electric Prunes, "Dirty Water" by the Standells, "Respect" by Vagrants, "No Time Like The Right Time" by Blues Project, "Invitation To Cry" by Magicians, "You're Gonna Miss Me" by Thirteenth Floor Elevators, "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five, "Baby Please Don't Go" by Amboy Dukes, "My World Fell Down" by Sagittarius, "Open My Eyes" by Nazz, "It's A Happening" by The Magic Mushrooms, "Lies" by The Knickerbockers, "Oh Yeah" by Shadows Of Knight, "Sit Down I Think I Love You" by The Mojo Men, "Just Like Romeo & Juliet" by Michael & The Messengers, "Hey Joe" by The Leaves, and "Farmer John" by The Premiers. Rhino, Late 60s/1970s. Used 4 CDs ... $49.99
One of the funkiest box sets we've ever seen – and amazingly issued by an American major label! The 4CD package is a treasure trove of funky work from a decade of Warner Brothers, Atlantic Records, and related labels – tunes pulled both from mainstream album releases and much more obscure 45s – all expertly collected here into a whopping batch of 91 tracks, all packaged in a cool little box with an 80 page booklet! This one goes way past some of the silly "decade" sets from Rhino, and really displays a new level of cool and connoisseurship – one that finally appreciates the rich depths of funky work at their fingertips, most of which has not been properly reissued in the US! Titles include "Almendra" by Macondo, "Goin Down" by Allen Toussaint, "Wah Wah Man" by Young Holt Unlimited, "Spinning Wheel" by Wade Marcus, "Hard Times" by Baby Huey & The Baby Sitters, "What's So Never The Dance (parts 1 & 2)" by Houseguests, "8 Days On The Road" by Howard Tate, "Getting Uptown" by United 8, "Wanoah" by Black Heat, "Let It Crawl" by Society's Bag, "Flute Thing" by Seatrain, "Try It Again" by Bobby Byrd, "Funky To The Bone" by Freddi Henchi & The Soul Setters, "Improve" by Darrow Fletcher, "Rien Ne Va Plus" by Funk Factory, "Gossip" by Cyril Neville, "Spreadin Honey" by Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, "Stoned Soul" by Artie Christopher, "Sexy Coffee Pot" by Tony Alvon & The Belaires, "Tampin" by The Rhine Oaks, "Jan Jan" by The Fabulous Counts, "Sing A Simple Song" by The Noble Knights, "It's All In Your Mind" by Soul Angels, "Funky John" by Johnny Cameron, "Don't Come Around Here Any More" by Mark Putney, "Keep On Dancing" by The Commodores, "Right On Brother (part 1)" by South Shore Commission, "Pop Popcorn Children" by Eldridge Holmes, and "The Deacon" by Brute Force. An amazing set of work by John Coltrane – some of his best recordings ever, tracks that form a pivotal point between his later 50s work with Miles Davis and his mid 60s spiritual searching years. The set's unbelievably exhaustive – and includes every track that was ever issued by Coltrane on an Atlantic album, plus some great alternate takes, plus a 72 page hardbound book of photos and writings, plus a whole CD of rare material that was never issued before! (The folks at Atlantic say that they would have loved to make an even bigger set – but after a fire in their warehouse in the 70s, this one CD of tapes is all that ever remained!) The whole package is incredibly well put together – in a small discrete box with some great fold-out CD cases, and a wonderful mechanism for storage that's as great as the music in the set. Titles include "Syeeda's Song Flute", "Ole", "My Favorite Things", "Cousin Mary", "Giant Steps", "Mr Day", "Blues To Elvin", "Satellite", "Liberia", "Dahomey Dance", and sooooo much more! CD
(Out of print. Slipcover has some light wear, but this is a nice copy overall.)

✨✧ Alice CooperWelcome To My Nightmare (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
Atlantic/Rhino, 1975. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A record that might have been a step into cliche for Alice Cooper – but one that still stands surprisingly strong after all these many years! Sure, the Coop as spook-master is very firmly stated on the cover and title – and yes, the record does feature an appearance from Vincent Price – but all the searing intensity of the group at the start is still firmly in place – produced with groundbreaking genius by Bob Erzin, who almost seems to be laying down a blueprint for later generations that run the gamut from metal to goth to post-punk. Titles include "Black Widow", "Welcome To My Nightmare", "Devil's Food", "Department Of Youth", "Cold Ethyl", "Years Ago", "Escape", and "Only Women Bleed". LP, Vinyl record album
