Beau BrummelsTriangle (colored vinyl pressing – mono) ... LP
Warner/Rhino, 1967. New Copy (reissue)... $15.99 21.98
A tremendous album from The Beau Brummels – one of the lesser-remembered groups from the late 60s Warner hipster heyday! At some level, the group's a folk-rock outfit – with the left-of-center feel of some of Fred Neil's best work for Capitol, and a similar blend of east coast honesty and west coast mind expansion. The format here is remarkably simple, but handled with some nice touches by producer Lenny Waronker, who really brings a lot more out of the band than on their earlier indie recordings. Titles include "Are You Happy", "The Wolf Of Velvet Fortune", "The Keeper Of Time", "Only Dreaming Now", "Magic Hollow", "Painter Of Women", and "Triangle". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition 50th Anniversary pressing on blue colored vinyl – mono – with a very cool paste-on cover just like the original!)

Rhino/Stax, 1960s. Used ... $2.99
What can we say? Booker T and crew are always tops in our book – and this album's as strong a batch of their classic singles as you'll ever find! Book's organ is the sound of a generation, and Steve Cropper's sinister vamping on guitar gives even the poppier tracks a hard edge that still sends shivers down our spine! The set's got 16 tracks than run the gamut of the group's years at Stax – including "Green Onions", "Soul Dressing", "Boot-Leg", "Hip Hug Her", "Mo Onions", "Soul Limbo", "My Sweet Potato", "Slim Jenkins Place", "Time Is Tight", "Slum Baby", and the amazing jazzer "Melting Pot". Miles DavisRubberband ... LP
Rhino, 1986. New Copy 2LP ... $28.99 31.98
Great lost work from Miles Davis – early material recorded for Warner Brothers in the mid 80s, and never released at the time – now finally uncovered from the vaults, and presented with a few slight contemporary touches! The core music is prime electric Miles funk all the way through – a great first step into the territory that he'd explore at Warner in his final years, but also with some traces of the Columbia records from the few years before – strong trumpet solos amidst bold rhythms – given new life here from instrumentalists Randy Hall and Attala Zane Giles. The music has been updated from the original tapes – with a richer sound, and a vibe that sounds less dated – and vocals have been added in a few spots, including great work from Ledisi and Lalah Hathaway. Titles include "Rubberband Of Life", "Echoes In Time/The Wrinkle", "See I See", "I Love What We Make Together", "So Emotional", "Paradise", "Maze", and "Give It Up". LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha FranklinAretha In Paris ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, 1968. Used ... $4.99
Aretha Franklin sings it loud and proud, in front of a classy crowd at the Olympia Theater in Paris – a move that would have made Berry Gordy proud, but which is carried off here in a classic Atlantic mode throughout! Given the tight studio handling of Aretha during these early Atlantic years, the live setting is a nice surprise – and shows that the Jerry Wexler touch could still hold strong, and present a concert version of Franklin's new groove that was every bit as great as the studio one. Aretha's vocals are right up front in the mix, and gets a bit of backing support from a trio that includes her sister Carolyn. Titles include "Baby, I Love You", "Soul Serenade", "Don't Let Me Lose This Dream", "Natural Woman", "Chain Of Fools", "Respect", and "Come Back Baby". CD

One of Aretha's undisputed classics – a seminal session that furthered her deep soul agenda with key backings from Arif Mardin and Tom Dowd! The Sweet Inspirations provide sublime backing vocals behind Franklin's maturing delivery of the lyrics – and the music is by an all-star group of players that includes Spooner Oldham, Bobby Womack, Jimmy Johnson, King Curtis, Tommy Cogbill, Roger Hawkins, and even Eric Clapton! Cuts include "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman", "Chain Of Fools", "Money Won't Change You", "Come Back Baby", and "Ain't No Way". ✨✧ Grateful DeadWake Of The Flood ... CD
Rhino, 1973. Used ... $6.99
The first album issued by the Grateful Dead on their own label – a setting that might make you think they'd act with less control than when at Warner Brothers, but which actually seems to have them doing the reverse! The whole thing's a great back-to-basics effort – sharp songs, rootsy instrumentation, and this nicely compact presentation of all the best ideas they'd been percolating for the past five years – maybe expanded a bit on the longer "Weather Report Suite" that ends the record, but tight and sing-songy on most of the rest – titles that include "Row Jimmy", "Stella Blue", "Let Me Sing Your Blues Away", "Eyes Of The World", and "Here Comes Sunshine". Sublime sneering work from the great Richard Hell – a key album in the evolution of punk on the US scene! The record marks a huge shift after Hell left Television – harder, nastier sounds – almost on a par with the Dead Boys on Sire, but a bit more artistic too – especially given Hell's penchant for creative wordplay. The mighty Robert Quine is on guitar – and tracks include the seminal "Blank Generation" and "Love Comes In Spurts", plus "Liars Beware", "The Plan", Walking On The Water", and "Another World". Enja/Rhino, 1988. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A great set that features Abdullah Ibrahim's soundtrack music for the 1988 Clair Denis film Chocolat – some of his best group recordings of the 80s! The feel here is a bit more African-styled than usual – even for Ibrahim – with strong use of reeds to inflect the tunes with the right degree of color and tone for their use in the film. The ensemble on the record features Ricky Ford on tenor and soprano, Craig Handy on flute and tenor, Benny Powell on trombone, David Williams on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums – and the tracks have a languid groove that recalls some of Dollar Brand's best South African recordings with Kippie Moketsie. Titles include "Earth Bird", "African Market", "Pule", "Star Dance", and "Serenity". CD

Rhino/Mobile Fidelity, 1967. Used ... $28.99
One of THE electric blues records of the 60s – a seminal set by Albert King that was probably blasted out of more college dorm rooms than southside juke joints, but which still more than deserves its due! The set was recorded by Stax with a nice raw sound – guitar very much upfront, but also set amidst arrangements that have a bit more soul than the average Chicago blues session from the same time. The set features a number of originals by Stax regulars like Booker T and David Porter – and titles include "The Hunter", "Born Under A Bad Sign", "Crosscut Saw", "Down Don't Bother Me", "Laundromat Blues", and "Personal Manager". LoveLove (180 gram pressing – mono) ... LP
Elektra/Rhino, 1966. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99
Love's first album – a seminal bit of Sunset Strip rock, and every bit as powerful today as it was in the 60s! The style's a bit sharper-edged than the group's classic and more familiar Forever Changes set, but it's still pretty darn great – a completely fresh batch of guitar-heavy tunes that bristle with a sound that's a lot more sinister than some of the group's contemporaries. There's a few folksy or bluesy elements in the mix, but they're almost used in a way that parodies bigger acts of the time – turning the familiar into the freaky, all with a sense of power that's simply mindblowing. Titles include the group's excellent version of Burt Bacharach's "My Little Red Book", plus "Hey Joe", "Emotions", "A Message To Pretty", "Mushroom Clouds", "And More", and "Coloured Balls Falling". Curtis MayfieldKeep On Keepin' On – The Curtis Mayfield Studio Albums 1970 to 1974 (Curtis/Roots/Back To The World/Sweet Exorcist) (4CD box set) ... CD
Curtom/Rhino, Early 70s. New Copy 4CD ... $32.99 34.98
A massive package of greatness – the first four solo albums from Chicago soul genius Curtis Mayfield! First up is Curtis – a record that not only foregrounds all the subtle politics he'd been forging in the Impressions during the 60s – but one that also really has Mayfield exploding as a force to be reckoned with in the studio! The album's a personal masterpiece – to the career of Curtis what the early solo albums of Issac Hayes were to his own genius – a bold, unfettered statement of pride and power – of the sort that would both make Mayfield and the Curtom Records label forces to be reckoned with in the 70s. Every cut is a classic – and titles include "Move On Up", "If There's a Hell Below We're All Gonna Go", "Miss Black America", "Wild & Free", "Give It Up", "The Makings Of You", "The Other Side Of Town", and "We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue". Roots is one of our favorite Curtis Mayfield albums ever – a massive early 70s effort that's filled with wonderful songs all the way through, and quite possibly one of the most perfect realization of the righteous vibe of the early 70s Curtom years! Curtis is in fine form throughout – as a singer, composer, and producer – but he's also got some excellent Chicago soul help from arrangers Riley Hampton and Johnny Pate – both key talents on the 60s Windy City scene, still able to come up with a deeply soulful groove here – and both able to blend together strings and funk in the way that Curtis was going for at the time. Titles include the massive "We Got to Have Peace" – a tune that never gets old – plus "Underground", "Keep On Keepin On", "Now You're Gone", "Get Down", "Love To Keep You In Mind", and "Beautiful Brother of Mine". Back To The World is pure genius from Curtis Mayfield – and a record that's got all the righteousness and political power you might guess from the cover! The album burns with a sense of empowerment that's every bit the best strength of Curtom in the 70s – a sublime blend of heavy soul, funky undercurrents, and far-reaching arrangements that still always manage to groove! And Curtis' vocals are great too – echoing out with a newfound presence that far surpasses the raspy quality of his early work with The Impressions. Arrangements are by Rich Tufo, production is by Mayfield, and titles include "Future Song" (aka "Future Shock"), "Keep on Trippin", "Can't Say Nothin", "Back To The The World", and "Right On For The Darkness". Sweet Exorcist is a wonderfully wicked album from Curtis Mayfield – one that's not nearly as famous as his Superfly set, but which is every bit as great! The groove here is lean, mean, and totally righteous – a bit more stripped-down than some of the rumbling funk of other Curtom efforts, and served up with a fluid groove that makes the album a killer from start to finish! As with Superfly, there's a nice blend here between uptight funky tracks and some more laidback soul – showcasing both sides of the Curtis Mayfield sound of the 70s – the brash society-changing soul, and the mellower, more fragile voice that first came to prominence in The Impressions. Titles alone tell you the vibe of the record – and they include "Ain't Got Time", "To Be Invisible", "Kung Fu", "Suffer", "Power to the People", and "Make Me Believe In You". All albums newly remastered – in sleeves with the original artwork too! CD

Rhino, 1968. Used ... $11.99
Genius early pop from Todd Rundgren & Nazz – work that's much more hard-rocking than some of Todd's later hits, but still with an undeniable songwriting brilliance! Tracks are mostly short and simple – based around plenty of lead guitar from Todd, and showcasing the lead vocals of Stewkey – whose slightly spacey style of singing brings in a really different feel to the tunes. Rundgren wrote nearly all the tunes on the set – and some of them have a bit of a psychedelic twist, augmented especially through his own heavy guitar, and the production styles of Bill Traut, who handled most of the set. Titles include a sweet early version of "Hello It's Me", plus "Open My Eyes", "Back Of My Mind", "Wildwood Blues", "When I Get My Plane", "Crowded", and "If That's the Way You Feel". CD

Arguably the most perfect record ever from New Order – a stunning second full length set that has the group emerging from the turgid depths of the early post-Ian Curtis years, and before the schmaltzy pop of the John Hughes generation! The electronics are wonderful – definitely a few generations ahead of their time, especially in the way they realize all the north England experimentation of the time, but bring it into more tuneful territory – yet never without losing its edge. The group produced the record themselves, and managed to hold onto lots of the best lessons learned from Martin Hannett – and there's a tightness and economy to the songwriting that holds up beautifully over the years. Titles include "Ultraviolence", "The Village", "We All Stand", "Your Silent Face", and the lovely "Leave Me Alone". LP, Vinyl record album

ReplacementsFor Sale – Live At Maxwell's 1986 ... LP
Rhino/Warner, 1986. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $28.99 29.98
It's been many years since The Replacements made their amazing music – but the genius of the group lives anew, thanks to the release of this tremendous live set from 1986! The group had moved from an indie label to Sire by the time of the show, but there's a searing intensity to most of the tracks that recalls their Twin/Tone material at its best – much more punkish than in the final years of the group – played with a deftness and speed that they didn't even have a few years before! In fact, if we were to find a way to describe the set, we might well call it the great lost album between Let It Be and Tim – as it combines all the best aspects of those sets, and has impeccable songwriting mixed with the raw edge that the group had at the start. The recording quality is wonderful – the set was captured at the legendary Maxwell's club in Hoboken, back when Hoboken was cool enough to have a scene – and titles include fantastic remakes of "Fox On The Run" and "Black Diamond" – plus "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out", "Kiss Me On The Bus", "Hitchin A Ride", "If Only You Were Lonely", "Hold My Life", "I Will Dare", "Color Me Impressed", "Dose Of Thunder", "Bastards Of Young", "Baby Strange", "Take Me Down To The Hospital", "Left Of The Dial", "God Damn Job", "Answering Machine", "Gary's Got A Boner", "Waitress In The Ky", "Favorite Thing", and "Can't Hardly Wait". ReplacementsLet It Be ... LP
Twin Tone/Rhino, 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
The masterpiece by one of the greatest, most sincere rock bands of all time! Let It Be veers all over the place, or at least as much as jangly rock music can, in the best way possible. Includes the pseudo twangy opener "I Will Dare", with the distinctly midwestern hardcore of the group's earlier years showing up on "We're Coming Out" and "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out", and Westerberg's great heart-on-sleeve, ragged balladry appearing for the closers. Like the Meat Puppets and X, the 'Mats really found themselves after they shed the rigid rules of punk rock, and developed into something every bit as honest and heartfelt. They followed the rock songbook just enough to keep their work warm and familiar, but with way too huge and hard-pounding heart to ever seem even the least bit derivative. Hell, they even make Kiss's "Black Diamond" sound sincere! Other tracks include "Favorite Thing", "Androgynous", "Unsatisfied", "Seen Your Video", "Gary's Got A Boner", "Sixteen Blue" and "Answering Machine". LP, Vinyl record album

We couldn't think of a better way to describe the sound of Slave than "stone jam"! The band's got a bass-heavy groove, mixed with a lot of soul, in a style that was often copied by many groups in the 80s, but never equaled. The real strength in the band was their songwriting – always fresh, and never too overindulgent in the funky elements. The vocals are tight and soulful, and the restriction of the of the funky bits makes from some nicely compressed grooves. Steve Arrington's on lead vocals – and tracks include "Watching You", "Never Get Away", "Stone Jam", "Feel My Love", and "Let's Spend Some Time". CD

SpinnersSpinners – The Chrome Collection (3 CD box set) ... CD
Rhino, 1960s/1970s/1980s. Used 3 CDs ... $59.99
A huge retrospective of the Mighty Mighty Spinners – one of the best-selling groups to emerge from the Detroit scene of the 60s! Like so many of their contemporaries in the motor city, The Spinners first came to prominence on the Motown label – but as the 70s approached, the group moved to Atlantic and recorded in Philadelphia with Thom Bell, creating a sound and style that put them at the top of the charts for many years! This set breaks down the group's career in a nicely-organized fashion, as disc 1 covers the years 1961 to 1974, disc 2 covers 1974 to 1977, and disc 3 features the post-77 years – in which the group cut some strong, and sadly overlooked singles! The whole thing includes 62 tracks in all, packaged in a hardback cover with a 60 page booklet that includes notes on the music, cool photos, and lots more! CD

A landmark album for Dusty Springfield – one in which she more than proves her soul music talents, by taking a trip to Memphis, and recording in a sweet Atlantic soul mode! Titles include Dusty's famous reading of "Son Of A Preacher Man", plus "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "So Much Love", "Just A Little Lovin", "In The Land Of Make Believe", and "No Easy Way Down". StoogesHave Some Fun – Live At Ungano's ... CD
Rhino Handmade/Wounded Bird, 1970. New Copy ... $6.99 11.99
Raw, incendiary live material from The Stooges, circa 1970 – recorded at NYC dive bar Ungano's, right around the time that Fun House was released! They blast through nearly all the tracks from Fun House here, minus "LA Blues", and with the rare "Have Some Fun/My Dream Is Dead", which as far as we know, was never released before Rhino Handmade dug up this incredible recording. The source was a reel-to-reel capture by someone in the audience, so the sound is a bit rough – which is of little concern when what we have here is a really important building block in creation of punk rock! Plus, the whole thing also begins with "Going To Ungano's" – street conversation that makes you feel like you're outside, going into the show. CD

The fantastic second album from Television – a follow up to Marquee Moon that has the group still very much at the top of their game – and which makes a perfect pairing with that legendary debut! The group may not have given us many records over their short span – but Adventure is the kind of record that most groups would have worked years to create – graced with fantastic work from Tom Verlaine, and the kind of guitar sound that opened the door for a whole new generation to explore in the years beyond punk and prog! Well, we'd be hard-pressed to say that Mamie Van Doren invented rock music – but her sexy work on screen in the 50s was definitely a part of that generation's aesthetic – as you'll hear here in a selection of songs from the films Beat Generation, Teacher's Pet, Born Reckless, and Untamed Youth! Warren ZevonExcitable Boy (glow in the dark vinyl pressing) ... LP
Elektra/Rhino, 1978. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99
An early moment of genius from Warren Zevon – the kind of record that really set his talents part from the singer/songwriter generation that came before – and made Zevon a key part of a new era of much darker songsmiths! Zevon manages to weave in all these strange moody elements while still delivering songs that are tuneful – often with studio talent that goes back to an earlier generation of LA polish, but which manages to have a bit more edge here in Warren's company. The lasting highlight of the record is probably the oft-played "Werewolves Of London" – but the whole thig is filled with gems – titles that include "Accidentally Like A Martyr", "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner", "Nighttime In The Switching Yard", "Tenderness On The Block", "Veracruz", and "Lawyers Guns & Money". ✨✧ Curtis MayfieldMayfield Remixed – The Curtis Mayfield Collection ... CD
Rhino, 1970s/2005. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really fantastic little set – way way better than we ever expected, thanks in large part to the strength of the remixers used in the project! We'll be honest in saying that it would be easy to ruin Curtis Mayfield's work by remixing it too much – because the man's genius is so well-established that we really can't imagine adding that much to it. But when you've got talents like Louie Vega, Ashley Beedle, Blaze, and King Britt in on the project, they can all go to places that we couldn't even imagine – and the result is a really fresh batch of tunes that expands upon the classic sound of Curtis with a host of soulful styles! Some tracks have more of a dancefloor focus, but the majority of work on the set still really appreciates the Curtom funky sound of the originals – and never muddies the water with too much trickery or superfluous remix bits. Titles include "Superfly (Louie Vega EOL mix)", "Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here (Ashley Beedle re-edit)", "Move On Up (Eric Kupper voc)", "We're A Winner (Grandmaster Flash rmx)", "Little Child Runnin Wild (King Britt Scuba mix)", "Freddie's Dead (Blaze Roots DJ mix)", "If There's A Hell Below (Maurice Joshua Nu Soul mix)", and "We Got To Have Peace (Eddie Baez laidback mix)". A classic album of Cole Porter tunes – sung by Mabel Mercer with just a bit of tinkling piano in the background! The overall sound's a bit older than you might guess from the date of the record – a mode that takes most of the Porter tunes relatively straight, served up in Mercer's trilling style of vocals – which have more of a 20s approach to the material than other 50s singers who were making Porter swing a bit more. Backing is by Cy Walter or Stan Freeman on piano, plus a bit of bass by Frank Carroll – and titles include "Ours", "Where Oh Where", "After You", "So In Love", "Looking At You", "Ace In The Hole", and "It's Delovely". A monster from start to finish – not only the greatest album from War, but maybe one of the greatest mainstream funk albums of all time! The set's got a really unique groove – one that so many others tried to copy, but which was forged here first – in a wicked LA blend of Chicano funk, heavy organ lines, and soulful singing that sews the whole thing together perfectly. Just about every cut is upbeat and funky – rolling along at that low-rider pace that was War's lasting contribution to funk music – and the album features the huge hits "World Is A Ghetto" and "Cisco Kid", two of the brightest spots on radio funk from the 70s – plus classics like "Four Cornered Room", "City Country City", "Where Was You At", and "Beetles In The Bog". Sure, they were hitmakers – but we love these guys, and find them to be one of the most radical vocal groups of all time! Under the impeccable guidance of Lieber & Stoller, the group recorded some of the fiercest vocal numbers of the 50s – mixing incredibly soulful vocals with an almost cartoonish ability to conjure up little pictures with words. This 50-track, 2CD set is an amazing tribute to the group's genius – and it includes a wonderful range of material that begins with their early days as The Robins, and which runs up to later sides cut as funky 45s for the Date label in the late 60s. Features the great funk numbers "Soul Pad", "DW Washburn", and "Down Home Girl" – plus totall excellent doo wop tunes like "Shoppin For Clothes", "Hitchin A Ride", "Girls Girls Girls", "The Slime", "Hongry", "Hey Sexy", "The Shadow Knows", "Sorry But I'm Gonna Have To Pass", "One Kiss", "What Is The Secret Of Your Success?", "Idol With The Golden Head", "Besame Mucho", "Stewball", "What About Us", and "Along Came Jones". A fantastic classic from Genesis – a record that really has the early version of the group at their height – able to spin out longform instrumental passages that would go onto shape a generation of proggers who tried to copy their sound – amidst lyrical moments that really have Peter Gabriel hitting his imaginative stride! The set's worth it alone for the amazing side-length "Supper's Ready" – a track so trippy, it's completely different than the Phil Collins-led era of Genesis – and the record features so many other great moments – like the commentary on urban housing that is "Get Em Out By Friday", the soaring keyboard-driven "Watcher Of The Skies", and the majestic "Can Utility & The Coastliners". Rhino, 1986. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
CD

✨✧ DevoNew Traditionalists (colored vinyl pressing – with poster) ... LP
Warner/Rhino, 1981. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A great one from Devo – capping off their classic era when they could hardly do wrong! By 1981, the gentlemen Devo had been up to their collective arse in irony since the early 70s, and having made a sizable fortune for the Brothers' Warner with the ultra-ironic "Whip It" the previous year, they took a sharp right turn into cranky sincerity. They did so on a wave of new wave synth funk, of course, resulting in the all-time great singles "Beautiful World", "Through Being Cool" and a few more gems. Mtv and a lot of the fans couldn't understand why 5 guys with plastic hair and outerspace uniforms were no longer playing it for laughs and thus killed the prospect of Devo as hitmakers for the rest of the decade! A worthy effort from one of the most innovative pop groups ever! Other tracks include "Pity You", "Soft Things","Going Under", "Race Of Doom", "Love Without Anger" and "Enough Said". ✨✧ RamonesIt's Alive (40th anniversary red & blue vinyl pressing) ... LP
Sire/Rhino, 1979. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Prime live material from the Ramones – recorded on the final night of 1977, right when the group was at the height of their power! If you ever got a chance to see The Ramones back in the day, the sound was really amazing – every bit as short, sharp, and focused as the studio records – but even more so, as the group would work through their set list with razor-sharp intensity, almost this juggernaut of punk rock sound that never lets up from start to finish! That quality is definitely in place here, as the whole thing tears through an incredible set list that includes "California Sun", "Rockaway Beach", "Teenage Lobotomy", "I Wanna Be A Good Boy", "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker", "Suzy Is A Headbanger", "I Don't Care", "Havana Affair", "We're A Happy Family", "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "Let's Dance", "Chainsaw", "Do You Wanna Dance", "You're Gonna Kill That Girl", "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment", "Glad To See You Go", and "Blitzkrieg Bop". Amazing anniversary package – with the full album, remastered – presented as both CD1, and 2LPs in the 12" book-style package – along with very long, never-issued concert material from the same stretch in 1977! CD2, CD3, and CD4 each feature shows recorded in England on the three days before the main set recorded for the album – each 27 tracks in length. Also features new liner notes from Steve Albini and Ed Stasium – and packaged in a very very cool book-style hardcover. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Ramones & OthersRock N Roll High School (tri-colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Sire/Rhino, 1979. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The fun fun soundtrack to Rock 'N' Roll High School – that gloriously, knowingly trashy Roger Corman produced movie vehicle for the Ramones! Of course The Ramones are all over the soundtrack, but it's got a bunch of 70s new wave and hard rock from Devo, Eno, Nick Lowe, Todd Rundgren and more – even a version of the title track by PJ Soles in character as Riff Randell. Includes "Rock N Roll High School", "I Want You Around", a medley of "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Pinhead", "California Sun" and more by The Ramones, "Come Back Jonee" by Devo, "Energy Fools The Magician" by Eno, "So It Goes" by Nick Lowe, "School Days" by Chuck Berry, "School's Out" by Alice Cooper and more. ✨✧ Uncle TupeloAnodyne (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
Rhino/Sire, 1993. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Uncle Tupelo's excellent, unfussy, fairly timeless final album – with equally good songs written by Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy that sound great together even if it's pretty clear in retrospect that they were soon to split up for good. The difference between Uncle Tupelo's loud guitar ragers and folk and roots infused songcraft got a lot more seamless over their years as a band, and on Anodyne they tend to let their rootsier influences shine a little brighter without sacrificing the grit and muscle of the more electric material. This one notably features John Stirratt and Ken Coomer, soon to join Tweedy in Wilco. Includes "Slate", "Acuff-Rose", "The Long Cut", a cover of Doug Sahm's "Give Back The Key To My Heart" featuring Sahm himself on vocals, "Chickamauga", "Anodyne", "15 Keys", "High Water", "Steal The Crumbs" and more. ✨✧ Ornette ColemanOrnette! ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, 1962. Used ... Out Of Stock
A stunning session by Ornette, and one that always seems to get overlooked in discussions of his albums for Atlantic! His quartet here features the amazing Scott LaFaro on bass, and a young Ed Blackwell on drums – both of whom give the tracks an amazing pulse that brings new energy out of Ornette and Don Cherry's solos – working in a modal groove that's as catchy as it is modern! All tracks are named after initials of titles of books by Sigmund Freud, including "T & T" (Totem & Taboo), "C&D"(Civilization and Discontent), "W.R.U.", and "R.P.D.D.". CD also features the bonus track "Proof Readers"! CD
