Latin jazz from PonchoSanchez – not only Latin percussion flavored Psychedelic Blues – but vibrant bits of salsa, both lean and heated Latin jazz, and swirling percussive grooves galore! As always, Pancho's percussion is fantastic, and there's a jazziness on this set that wasn't in full force on more Latin soul based recent sets. Fantastic stuff! Includes a great medley of Willie Bobo numbers featuring "I Don't Know", "Fried Neck Bone And Some Home Fries" and "Spanish Grease", plus the Herbie Hancock composed "Cantaloupe Island", "Psychedelic Blues" (a positively killer Latin jazz workout that's exceptional, and worthy of being designated the title track,) "Grand Central", "Delifonse", "Con Sabor Latino" and more. A great live set led by conga master Pancho Sanchez – one that ranges from blistering Latin and salsa-based jams, to more straight forward jazzy numbers. Pancho's crew includes Tony Banda on bass, Ramon Banda on timpales, Jose Rodriguez on bongos and an assortment of percussion, Art Velasco on trombone, and Gene Burkert on sax and flute. Tracks include "Siempre Me Va Bien", "Alafia", "Manteca", "La Familia", "Bien Sabroso", "Sonando" and more! CD
A brilliant set of Latin jazz from PonchoSanchez – proof that he was one of the few musicians who really kept the classic sounds going during the 80s! The album's got a tight small group format that benefits from some especially great horn work from Gene Burkert on alto and tenor, Sal Cracchilo on trumpet, and Art Velsasco on trombone – all players who are often arranged with a real sharpness on the heads – that modern edge that first started coming strongly into Latin jazz during the years of Eddie Palmieri's best work. Charlie Otwell's the pianist on the date, and he contributed some great tunes to the record – including "Song For Cal", "A Night In London", "Chile Con Soul", "Nueva Charanga", and "Quieto". Tito Puente plays some guest timbales – and other titles include "Soul Burst", "Mama Guela", "Con Migo", "Ti Pon Pa", and "Cold Sweat/Funky Broadway". CD

Poncho's still cooking nice and hard on congas – and he's got a tight band backing him up on this feisty session of heavy Latin grooves. The album's a nice throwback to the glory days of Latin soul, and it features an Eddie Harris medley of "Cold Duck" and "Listen Here", a cover of "Watermelon Man", and the cuts "Mama Guela", "Ican", "El Conguero", and "Guaripumpe". CD
A smoking live set from percussionist PonchoSanchez – recorded live at Montreux in a style that's very much like the hardest-jamming of his albums for Concord/Picante! Titles include "Out Of Sight", "Watermelon Man", "Conmigo", "One Mint Julep", "El Shing A Ling", "Guaripumpe", and "I Showed Them" – and DVD includes artist photos, biography, and a live performance video of "Batiri Cha Cha". CD
Even at this late date in his career, Poncho's still cooking on congas – with a tight band that features David Torres, Tony Banda, Jose Papo Rodriguez, and others, backing him up on this burning session of soulful Latin grooves, plus he's brought in a few ringers like Terrence Blanchard, Joey DeFrancesco and the Ortiz Brothers. Tracks include "Oye Lo", "Venga A Bailar Bailadores", "Haitian Lady", "Fania Funque (Co Co)", "Bodacious Q", "Asi Asi" and "Rumba De Po-tiz". CD
Beautiful Latin vibes from the great Cal Tjader – 8 long tracks recorded live in 1977, but issued here for the first time ever! The sides on the set rank with Cal's best 70s live work – and feature some sublime electric piano work by Clare Fischer, as well as percussion from a young PonchoSanchez! The tunes are long, stretched out, and a perfect blend of Cal's older Latin jazz vibe with some sweet 70s electric touches – of the sort we've always dug on his other 70s albums for Fantasy. Titles include "Cuban Fantasy", "Descarga Cachao", "Manuel Deeghit", "Guachi Guara", "Tu Crees Que", and "Silenciosa". CD
Twelve tracks from Cal Tjader, Tania Maria, Monty Alexander's Ivory & Steel, Charlie Byrd with Ken Peplowski, Tito Punete, Ray Barretto & New World Spirit, Pete Escovedo, PonchoSanchez with Mongo Santamaria, Eddie Palmieri and more. CD
