✨✧ Phoebe SnowIt Looks Like Snow ... CD
Columbia, 1976. Used ... Out Of Stock
There's nobody at all like Phoebe Snow – and on a 70s album like this, she more than earns her place in pop music history! The set's a great criss-crossing of so many styles – the jazzy inflections of Snow's vocals, the warm production of mid-70s Columbia Records, and the nice undercurrent of soul that comes from the good choices of studio musicians – not to mention the familiar acoustic guitar that Phoebe knows how to use in just the right ways – always free from any folksy cliches of the previous generation. Titles include "Autobiography", "Don't Let Me Down", "Shakey Ground", "Teach Me Tonight", "Mercy On Those", and "Stand Up On The Rock". CD

✨✧ Phoebe SnowSecond Childhood ... LP
Columbia, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A 70s classic from Phoebe Snow – one of those records that it seemed like everybody had to own back in the day – and for good reason! Phoebe's vocals are wonderful – laidback, but inflected with plenty of personality – at times kind of hovering in a 70s space between Minnie Riperton and Joni Mitchell, but often underscored with some folksy acoustic guitar – which makes for a nice contrast to the jazzy backings! Arrangements are a masterpiece of understatement – really letting Snow's spirit come right up front in the mix – and our hat's off to Pat Williams for some great work on the record. Titles include "Two Fisted Love", "Inspired Insanity", "Pre-Dawn Imagination", "All Over", "Isn't It A Shame", "Sweet Disposition", and "No Regrets". LP, Vinyl record album

Dave GrusinNight-Lines ... LP
GRP, 1984. Very Good+ ... $4.99
A record that has Dave Grusin elevating a bit more into the jazz/soul mainstream – as the set has the keyboardist working with a few more crossover modes than before, but all in a way that seems to demonstrate his many years in various kinds of music! The album was a key entry in the new sound of fusion during the mid 80s – maybe a bit sharper than later smooth jazz, but with efforts from some leading lights of that generation to come – including David Sanborn and Marcus Miller. Phoebe Snow sings a bit on the record – which might provide her with one of her more exciting settings in years – and titles include "Power Wave", "Thankful N Thoughtful", "Night Lines", "Tick Tock", "Bossa Baroque", and "Secret Place". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cut corner and some wear.)

David SanbornSanborn ... LP
Warner, 1976. Near Mint- ... $14.99
A damn great early moment from David Sanborn – a record that really shows the reedman at his best – working some tight solos over soulful backings in the same 70s manner as Tom Scott or Wilton Felder! Like both of those players, David's got the chops to step out in front of the backings strongly – blowing some of his best notes with surprisingly little flourish, and crafting a soulful lead that's supported by work from Hiram Bullock on guitar, Rosalinda De Leon on keyboards, and Victor Lewis on drums. There's a bit of vocals on the album – courtesy of Patti Austin, Lain Groves, Phoebe Snow, and Paul Simon – and titles include "Indio", "Smile", "Concrete Boogie", "Mamacita", and "7th Ave". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese white label promo pressing. Includes insert. Cover has a trace of a sticker.)

✨✧ Will Boulware & RainbowHarmony (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Eighty Eights/Sony (Japan), 2003. Used Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A well-crafted comeback from pianist Will Boulware and his Rainbow group – one that shares many qualities of his Over Crystal Green album, but which also takes things a bit further! Will's still got that great blend of acoustic and electric keys here – a sound that's really the strongest side of the record, and which takes us back to those first mid 70s moments when keyboardists were blending the two modes to reach an even fuller sound than before. But one main difference here is the presence of Phoebe Snow on vocals on 3 of the album's tracks – giving the record a bit more of a "soul" feel at those moments, in a way that occasionally disturbs the gentle Rainbow balance. Still, the overall sound here is still pretty great – with tenor from Michael Brecker, guitar from Peter Bernstein, drums from Steve Gadd, and a bit of guest keys from Philippe Saisse. Titles include "One Finger Snap", "Trouble In Mind", "Kentucky", "Foolish Door", "New & Old", "Peace", and "Rainbow". CD

✨✧ New York Rock & Soul RevueNew York Rock & Soul Revue – Live At The Beacon ... CD
Giant/Warner, 1991. Used ... Out Of Stock
A collision of generations – as giants of the world of 70s and 80s AOR come together to pay tribute to the soulful styles of the years before! At the time, the album was the sort that really made us cringe – since we were such soul purists back in the 90s – but over the years, we've really come to accept the whole thing both as a well-meaning effort, and more importantly, as a lost chapter of the Donald Fagan/Steely Dan genius – as Fagan produced the set, and really brings a lot of his older music into play! Other artists include Boz Scaggs, Phoebe Snow, and Michael McDonald – but the set also features work from older bluesman Charles Brown – and titles include remakes of "Madison Time", "Knock On Wood", "Shakey Ground", "Lonely Teardrops", "Downing In The Sea Of Love", "Groovin", and "People Got To Be Free" – plus nice takes on "Chain Lightning", "Pretzel Logic", and "Green Flower Street".
