✨✧ Oscar Peterson/Joe Pass/Niels PedersenTrio (Japanese pressing) ... CD
Pablo/Polydor (Japan), 1973. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A tight trio recording – with Niels Orsted Henning Pedersen on bass and Joe Pass on guitar – recreating the drum-less trio style that Oscar Peterson used in the 50s – but on longer tracks that spin out nicely! Titles include "Chicago Blues", "Blues Etude", "Easy Listening Blues", "Come Sunday", and "Secret Love". CD
(Out of print early Japanese pressing.)

Oscar PetersonGood Life ... LP
Pablo, 1973. Sealed ... $16.99
Oscar Peterson's living the vida bueno here – returning to the London House in Chicago, over a decade after his famous recording date in the early 60s – and working with a very different style overall! The tracks are long, and quite open – a great way to hear Peterson working out some inventive ideas on the keys, with, arguably, a lot less "trademark" moments than usual for the 70s – and the trio also features Joe Pass on guitar and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass. The set features a great version of "Wave", plus "Wheatland", "The Good Life", "On A Clear Day", and "For Count". LP, Vinyl record album
(Still sealed, with some price sticker remnants and a Best Entertainment Value sticker on both sides.)

✨✧ Oscar Peterson & Stephane GrappelliSkol (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Pablo/OJC, 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful pairing of Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli – two artists who'd recorded together before, but who sound especially nice in this live setting! The group's a quintet – with the guitar of Joe Pass, bass of Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen, and drums of Mickey Roker – but many moments feature these open passages where Peterson or Grappelli dominate – the latter of whom is fluid and swinging in a way we don't always hear this well. Titles include "Nuages", "That's All", "Skol Blues", "How About You", and "Someone To Watch Over Me". CD features three previously unissued bonus tracks from the same performance – "Solitude", "Honeysuckle Rose", and "I Got Rhythm". CD
(Out of print.)

✨✧ Buddy DeFranco & Oscar PetersonHark ... LP
Pablo, 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great reunion of Buddy DeFranco and Oscar Peterson – two players who recorded together famously for Verve in the 50s, working here on an 80s date under the supervision of old Verve head Norman Granz! The setting here is even more loose and laidback than in the 50s – that mellow Pablo Records mode that seems to bring in a lot more feeling to the players than some of their dates for other labels at the time – and Buddy's lost none of the charm in his tone, playing the clarinet with a soulful swing that's almost more like an alto sax at times! Other players include Joe Pass on guitar, Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass, and Martin Drew on drums – and titles include "Summer Me Winter You", "Llovisna", "By Myself", "Joy Spring", "All Too Soon", and "Hark". ✨✧ Oscar PetersonTime After Time ... CD
Pablo, 1986. Used ... Out Of Stock
A relatively laidback set from Oscar Peterson – just the kind of record we need to remind us of his strengths on the mellower side of the spectrum! The recording's a live one – done in LA in 1986 – and Peterson still brings a gentle vamp to most numbers, but also has an open, lyrical quality too – stretching out in a quartet with Joe Pass on guitar, Dave Young on bass, and Martin Drew on drums. The recording quality has Oscar most up front in the mix – which is great at the gentler moments – and titles include "Soft Winds", "Love Ballade", "Cool Walk", and "On The Trail". CD

Zoot SimsZoot Sims & The Gershwin Brothers (SACD pressing) ... CD
Pablo/OJC, 1975. Used ... $16.99
Way more than just a Gershwin Songbook sort of record – thanks to some tremendous blowing here by Zoot Sims, who's mellowed nicely with age, and comes up with a wonderful sound for the record! It may just be us, but there seems to be a lot more soul in Zoot's horn than ever before – more humanity, and a sort of pausing, almost faltering approach to the tunes that takes them way past their overdone versions. The rest of the group includes Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, George Mraz, and Grady Tate – but the Sims' sound is the main star of the set – and it's really wonderful! Titles include "The Man I Love", "Embraceable You", "Summertime", "Isn't It A Pity", "I've Got A Crush On You", and "Lady Be Good". CD
(Out of print with a punch through the barcode. Hybrid SACD pressing – plays on regular players too!)

✨✧ Sarah VaughanHow Long Has This Been Going On? ... LP
Pablo, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great little date – one that's presented here with a really classic sense of jazz vocal recording, but oddly the kind of record that Sarah Vaughn hardly ever got to make back in the 50s! The setting is spare and simple – backing by a quartet that includes Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Ray Brown, and Louis Bellson – but all players are nicely relaxed here, and never too uptight, or trying to over-express their place in the lineup – and instead step forward gently, quietly, to match Sarah's wonderfully mature vocals on the record. Titles include "Easy Living", "You're Blase", "More Than You Know", "Teach Me Tonight", "Body & Soul", "How Long Has This Been Going On", and "Midnight Sun". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some edge wear and yellowing from age. Includes the Pablo inner sleeve.)
