OrgoneReasons ... CD
Killion Sound, 2019. New Copy ... $10.99
Orgone just seem to get better and better as the years go on – from a more standard funk combo to one who've really found their own groove – which they seem to push even further here with the addition of singer Adryon De Leon – a vocalist who really helps bring some focus to their music! We'd dare say that Adryon's the N'Dea Davenport to the group's Brand New Heavies – save for the fact that both the singer and Orgone are completely their own thing, just ready to take on bold new territory with a top-shelf vocalist in the lead! And unlike some of the usual "female singer with funk band" combinations, Adryon's presence here is fully integrated – and very much a key part of the Orgone sound – as you'll hear on tracks that include "We Can Make It", "Light In Me", "Ride My Swing", "All Good Things", "Cold Side", "Whisper To Me", "Easy Love", and "Suma Juice". Colemine, 2018. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $23.99
Damn! Orgone just keep getting better and better – to the point where we might almost say that there's no difference between the strength of the group's sound and all the funky 70s acts that have inspired their music! The instrumentation and production are right on the money throughout – and speaking of inspiration, the group pay tribute to some of their heroes – by taking on tunes by The Meters, Funkadelic, Rufus Thomas, Booker T & The MGs, and many others – but all at a level that makes the tunes completely their own. With Colemine on hand to co-present the record, there's a definite love of heavy funk in the whole production – both on the soulful vocal cuts, and the album's great instrumentals. Titles include "The Black Five", "Cynthy-Ruth", "Think", "Nobody's Fault But Mine", "Breakdown", "Melting Pot", "It's Serious", "It Ain't No Use", "Cosmic Slop", and "Let Me Be Your Love Maker". ✨✧ OrgoneBulletproof/PCH (One More Mile) ... 7-inch
Colemine, 2017. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Double dose of Orgone in prime funky hero mode! "Bulletproof" is a tight jam with a bit of a 70s cinematic funk feel with tight horns courtesy of their friends in Ikebe Shakedown and some really cool, unpredictable changes as it rolls along – really ratcheting up the percussion mastery before closing in a more hynotic feel. "PCH (One More Mile)" is a moody funky soul tune with vocals by Jesse Wagner. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Black vinyl pressing.)

✨✧ Diamond Street PlayersDiamond Street Players (colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Gemco, 2019. New Copy ... $17.99 18.99
Raw funky soul from Diamond Street Players – heavy on vintage inspired, timelessly spun instrumentals, but nailing down some standout vocal jams with Orgone vocalist Adryon de Leon and Atlanta soul singer Amanda Joy – and ultimately delivering a solid gem for the Gemco label! The core group is a 5 piece with Ben Davis on sax and flute, Ian Newberry and Kevin Scott on guitars, Mark Raudabuagh on guitars and Spencer Garn on Hammond & Rhodes. Garn grooves strong enough to qualify as the group's secret weapon, but they're really a well oiled unit all around, nailing it on the intrumental tip and on soul-steeped backing vocals. Titles include "How Many Lies, How Many Times" with Adryon De Leon "Split The Difference", "Bada Dum Dum", "Healey '67", "Murky Retrograde", "Organ Workout", "Suzy's Boogaloo", "Million Miles" with Amanda Joy LP, Vinyl record album
