Midnight Hour (Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad)Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad Present The Midnight Hour ... LP
Linear Labs, 2018. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $19.99 31.98
Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad really sound fantastic here – stepping off their great work on the soundtrack for Luke Cage, and taking their music in an even stronger direction with help from an array of guest singers and musicians! Things are as rich and funky as you might expect – steeped in the same 70s traditions that Younge's used on all of his tremendous projects right from the start, but maybe given an even leaner, more crackling vibe here – as the duo moves through some wonderful soulful modes – with help from Bilal, Questlove, Keyon Harrald, James Poyser, Raphael Saadiq, Ladybug Mecca, Ceelo Green, No ID, Karolina, and others. Titles include "Possibilities", "Better Endeavor", "Mare", "Questions", "So Amazing", "Gate 54", "Do It Together", "Together Again", "Bitches Do Voodoo", "Dans Un Moment D'Errance", and "Feel Alive". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Steve Miller BandYour Saving Grace ... LP
Capitol, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Just Sold Out!
The Steve Miller Band is firmly down to a trio here – and they've never sounded better – thanks to completely kickass drums from Tim Davis, and some heavy heavy bass from Lonnie Turner – both of whom work with Miller in a style that's almost an American answer to the music of Cream from the UK! The vocals have this great way of laying down amidst the guitar, bass, and drums – and although rooted in blues, the music is so much more – especially since it's got an unbridled energy that always has the best tunes really taking off. Titles include "Baby's House", "Motherless Children", "Last Wombat In Mecca", "Your Saving Grace", "Just A Passin Fancy", and "Feel So Glad". LP, Vinyl record album
(Lime green label pressing in a Unipak cover, with light surface wear and two spots of yellowed adhesive inside the gatefold.)

✨✧ Cabaret VoltaireRed Mecca ... LP
Rough Trade, 1981. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Cabaret Voltaire at a perfect point in their career – a time when their overall sound was still pretty raw, and awash in these dark analogue electronics – but also getting a focus it never had before, the kind of rhythmic intensity that would make the group a huge influence on other acts for years to come! The album's a perfect portrait of the Northern UK scene at its best – moodiness that never falls into goth cliches, electronics that distill the experiments of the 70s with post-punk energy, and rhythms that point to the dancefloor but never in a way that's really dance music at all – just pulsatingly hypnotic, in a way that somehow makes the other qualities even more eerie! The whole thing's wonderful – one of our favorite albums ever by the Cabs – and titles include "Landslide", "A Thousand Ways", "Red Mask", "Split Second Feeling", and "A Touch Of Evil". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has light wear.)
