Majid SoulaChant Amazigh ... LP
Habibi Funk (Germany), 1980s. New Copy ... $23.99 27.99
That's not a typo in the title – although the music of Majid Soula is pretty darn amazing – served up here in a collection of work from the 80s, all of which serves to find a new sort of contemporary expression for the Amazigh culture of North Africa! Majid uses a fair bit of keyboards and rhythm programs on the cuts – very much an 80s expression of some of the 70s funk modes we've loved on other collections from Habibi Funk – and many of these tracks only appeared on cassette at the time, which makes the package not only one of the first global collections to showcase Majid's music, but also one of the first in a longer-lasting format too. The production is great – every bit at the top-shelf level we've come to love from this label, who've become a crucial gateway to Mid-East sounds that most of us never would have heard otherwise. Titles include "Win Terram", "Tafat Instrumental", "Ageruj", "Tameghra", "Algerie Maroc", "A Kem Gegh A Tamurt", and "Lgira". LP, Vinyl record album
