Czarface & MF DoomSuper What? ... LP
Silver Age, 2021. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
MF Doom left our planet all too soon, and he left behind a great legacy of music, too – including a previous collaboration with the Czarface collective, nicely matched by this posthumous set! The balance here is great, and the set brings the metal man of mystery into great play with his collaborators and guests who include DMC, Kendra Morris, and Del The Funky Homosapien – all coming together on an album that's every bit as fun as the first time around, and maybe even more essential, given that we're not going to hear that much more from the unissued archives of MF Doom. Titles include "This Is Canon Now", "So Strange", "Young World", "Mando Calrissian", "Doom Unto Others", "The King & Eye", and "Czarwyn's Theory Of People Getting Loose". LP, Vinyl record album

Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom)Illest Villains (rmx)/Curls (voc, inst)/Scene Three/All Caps (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Stones Throw, 2004. Near Mint- (pic cover)... $19.99
A few more slices of sci fi weird hop from MC Doom, and mad, mad, Madlib! "Illist Villains" is the villain manifesto showcase for Madlib, burying deep, creepy organ and synth washes into a bunch of layered sci fi flick sound bites and beats. Doom does his thing on "Curls", rolling slow, early Wu Tang style menace over Madlib's rolling piano beat. The flip side is just that – a straight up mirror image of the A-cuts – with "Scene Three" serving as another sci fi production showpiece, and "All Caps" brings in Doom's slow/deep delivery and catchier, if no less creepy crackling Madlib beats. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Black label pressing in a Stones Throw/Fat Beats cover.)

Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom)Madvillainy ... LP
Stones Throw, 2004. New Copy 2 LPs ... $27.99 29.99
A Stones Throw sci-fi masterpiece – one that was destined for greatness from conception, but we're still pretty well blown away by the final product! MC Doom and beatmaster Madlib couldn't be better suited for a collaboration. As much as we've dug the best of Doom's material of the last couple years, he's always needed a good editor – and Madlib brings nothing but the best sci-fi sound collages, scratches, and titanically driving funky beats – the grooved out 70s side of 'Lib's personality is wisely given a powder, while in the company of a vocal presence that's as insane as Doom. When it's not so pounding, the sound drops into the kinda gloomy, murky crackle of earliest Wu Tang. This is easily the best album of its kind since Dr. Octagon tore the flood gates open. Essential!!! "The Illest Villains", "Accordian", "Bistro", "Raid" feat Medaphoar, "America's Most Blunted", "Rainbows", "Curls", "Money Folder", "Hardcore Hustle","Fancy Clown", "Supervillain", "All Caps", "Rhinestone Cowboy" and more. MF DoomOperation Doomsday ... LP
Metal Face, 1999. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $27.99 34.98
The first full length from MF Doom – a record that set the standard for underground hip hop to come! On this modern classic, Doom caps off the 90s with more jazzy soul in the beats, and some semblance of straightforward rhyme mastery from both Doom & his guests – taken to the outer limits! What really pushes this one into legendary status are how well he works with creaky comic adventure samples – using them as the genesis of Doom's metal face supervillain persona. Looking back, the set is clearly the building blocks for deeper insanity to come – but the sense of structure may well make it his best album ever! Includes "Doomsday", "Rhymes Like Dimes" feat Cucumber Slice, "The Finest" feat Tommy Gun, "Go With The Flow", "Tick Tick", "Hey!", "The Mic", "Dead Bent", "?" feat Kurious and much more – including all of the classic skits (yeah, we said it, classic skits, creative sci fi sample genius that are creative as the proper tracks) – with 19 tracks in all. MF Doom and Madlib, two of the most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop – hell, perhaps THE most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop, pair up for an outing on Stones Throw! "Money Folder" is Doom's real showpiece of the couple of tracks here. Metal Face kicks his gravelly, atomically charged word bombs over some really hot start & sto(m)p beats by 'Lib. "America's Most Blunted" is the DJ's game, with a string of strange samples and soundtrack vibe with a Cut Chemist feel. Madlib's knob twirlin' and wheel spinnin' on the two main cuts and remixes is much more in his funk beats and wacked samples guise than the mad jazz vibe he's been rocking on other recent projects. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Lex, 2009. Used ... Out Of Stock
Doom is back, sans the MF prefix, fully loaded with funky sci fi hip hop that's fit to shake the heavens – his first record in far too long, and a strong one! We don't know where the masked man holed himself up in the couple years before this set, nor do we pay much attention to the rumors and gossip (he's locked up! he's sending out imposters!), but it doesn't matter, as he's come back sharp. We hear less Marvel Comics in the beats, and more spacey, blunt funk – particularly on the handful of tracks that have additional instrumentation by Mr Chop – with guests including Raekwon, Ghostface, Slug, Bumpy Knuckles, Posdnous & Prince Paul – plus additional production by Dilla, Madlib, and Jake One! There's some great stuff here, and whether the guy is truly certifiable or if it's all a put on, we love 'em either way. Stay close by, Doom! Titles include "Gazzilion Ear", "Ballskin", "Lightworks", "Batty Boyz", "Rap Ambush", "Stil Dope", "Microwave Mayo", "Supervillainz", "Bumpy's Message" and more. CD

KMDBlack Bastards ... LP
Subverse, 1994. Very Good+ 2LP ... $24.99
A legendary record from KMD – the group's second album, which was unissued at the time because their label had an issue with the now-famous cover image! The set is every bit as fantastic as their first – with some of that strong influence from jazz that marked their music as a real standout at the time – but also some raw elements that really make us wonder where they would have gone, had they kept on together as a trio – if not for the untimely early death of Dingilizwe Dumile! Yet, as history shows, that moment spawned the MF Doom persona of group member Zevlove X (Dumile's brother) – who would go on to form a legacy of his own. The whole thing's great, even without that mini-history lesson – and titles include the classics "Plumskinnzz" and "What A Ni**a Know" – plus "Get-U-Now", "Sweet Premium Wine", "Black Bastards", "Constipated Monkey", and "Gimme". A hell of a record from the early 80s scene – a set that many folks slept on when first released, yet a record that's gone on to be every bit as classic as work from De La Soul or Tribe Called Quest in their prime! Of course, part of the album's fame has expanded over the years – as the launching board for Daniel Dumile, soon to be MF Doom – yet the record's got all sorts of fantastic energy of its own – all the wit of some of the trio's hip New York contemporaries, but spun a bit differently – and really linked together in a way that makes the record a masterpiece from start to finish! ✨✧ De La SoulGrind Date ... CD
Sanctuary, 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
The first post-Tommy Boy De La Soul album – and it's a winner! We've been on board with De La throughout their long career – anyone with open ears must know that even their spottiest records (and this is NOT one of those) feature at least a handful of treasure tracks. Grind Date is easily the best later De La Soul album, and brevity is as key to the album as the group's proven longevity. 12 tracks, 49 minutes, no skits. Two songs in you'll find the stellar "Verbal Clap", one of J Dilla's finest productions ever, with precise on beat rhymes by De La. Other highlights include "He Comes" with Ghostface, a soulful track that would sound just as great on Ghost's Supreme Clientele. Is Grind Date the new sound for the mid 00s? Will it blaze trails and be co-opted by the next hot producers? Are the lyrics as solid as they could be? Probably not in each scenario, but that's not the point – these guys are consummate musicians, molding their rhyme schemes to the tracks with focus and precision. Most critics will say this is De La's best album since Stakes Is High. We'll say it's better! Featuring production by Dave West, J Dilla, Madlib and 9th Wonder – plus guest appearances by Yummy, Ghostface, Carl Thomas, MF Doom, Common and others. Other tracks include "The Future", "Much More" feat Yummy, "The Grind Date", "Shopping Bags", "Days Of Our Lives" with Common, "Come On Down", "Rock Co. Kane Flow" featuring MF Doom and more. CD

✨✧ GorillazDemon Days ... LP
Parlophone (UK), 2005. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The second Gorillaz album, and if there was ever an inclination the first would be a one-and-done side project or its huge success would be a tough act to follow, this one pretty much slays both theories – it's ultimately one of the better leftfield pop albums of the 00s! The guest roster on Gorillaz albums is always pretty stunning, and this one especially so – with Damon Albarn bringing in a then white hot Danger Mouse as a producer, and welcoming Roots Manuva, De La Soul, MF Doom, Shaun Ryder, Martina Topley-Bird, Bootie Brown, Ike Turner, The London Gospel Choir, Dennis Hopper and more. Includes "Dirty Harry", "Feel Good Inc", "All Alone", "Demon Days", "Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head", "Don't Get Lost In Heaven", "White Light", "El Manana" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Recent remastered reissue on black vinyl. Includes the printed inner sleeves.)

✨✧ KMDMr Hood ... CD
Elektra, 1991. Used ... Out Of Stock
Brand Nubian guest on "Nitty Gritty" – and other titles include "Who Me", "Peachfuzz", "Humrush", "Figure Of Speech", "Trial N Error", "Soulflexin", "Gasface Refill", and the hilarious "Mr Hood At Piocalles Jewelry/Crackpot". ✨✧ Danger Mouse & Black ThoughtCheat Codes ... LP

The long hinted at full duo effort from Danger Mouse & Black Thought – which despite the title arrives with no shortcuts taken by either party – they got to the highest level after decades of grinding and stellar play! Danger Mouse hasn't produced a straight-up, classic-schooled gritty hip hop album in quite a while and he couldn't have a finer foil than Black Thought – and guest spots include an archival verse from Danger Mouse's late partner MF Doom, appearances by Raekwon, Run The Jewels, Kid Sister and others. ✨✧ KMDBlack Bastards ... LP
Metal Face/Rhymesayers, 1994. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Out Of Stock
✨✧ Oh NoOhnomite ... CD
Brick/Five Day Weekend, 2012. Used ... Out Of Stock
Oh No once again delivers on the conceptual front – an allstar hip hop project built on Dolemite samples – produced and arranged by Oh No and featuring a stellar guest roster with Erick Sermon, MF Doom, Evidence, Alchemist, Big Pooh, Frank Nitt, Roc C, Guilty Simpson, Jose James, Phife Dawg and more! Rudy Ray Moore and his Dolemite are a vital part of underground hip hop' DNA, so to Oh No's credit, he doesn't go for most obvious fodder or weigh it all too heavily with movie dialogue or the most memorable soundtrack bits. Like the best hip hop ever made, Oh No crafts personal, unique and original music out of samples, and this record belongs to him and his guests! Includes "Real Serious" with Evidence & Alchemist, "The Guns" feat Guilty Simpson & MED, "Time" feat Roc C & Chino XL, "Hallucinations" feat Prozack Turner, "Ohnomite Jazz", "Touch It" feat Frank Nitt, "Dues N Donts" feat Jose James & Phife Dawg, "Runnin The Show" feat Erick Sermon. CD features 2 bonus tracks: "Life Games" feat LMNO and "Overload" feat Wildchild. CD
