VariousOn The Dancefloor With A Fingersnap – 31 Pops To Make The Party Shake ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... $13.99 18.99
The fingersnap here is the key – as all the cuts here have a nicely romping kind of groove – a sweet sense of rhythm that's bound to get your toes tapping as much as your fingers are snapping – thanks to a nice sense of space between the notes! The music is from a variety of different genres – late 50s/early 60s country, pop, jazz, and R&B – all brought together here with the usual great Bear Family sense of an inventive tracklist, and definite panache for putting together a collection! The set features 31 tracks in all – and titles include "Tremblin" by Byrdie Green, "Love Charms" by Sanford Clark, "Lookout Mountain" by Chuck Miller, "Walk With Me Lord" by Ruth Brown, "King Of The Road" by Roger Miller, "My Nerves" by Little Willie John, "Coal Miner" by Nappy Brown, "Fever" by Peggy Lee, "Tale Of Woe" by Wynonie Harris, "Hawk" by Bill Haley & The Comets, "Jack That Cat Was Clean" by Dr Horse, "Chills & Fever" by Ronnie Love, "Sixteen Tons" by Jimmy Dean, "Tiny Tim" by LaVern Baker, "Satan Is Her Name' by Steve King & The Echelons, and "Heartbeat" by The Collins Kids. ✨✧ CircleParis Concert ... LP
ECM, 1971. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An essential 2LP set that's just about the only vinyl release you can find that documents the work of the legendary (and short-lived) Circle group – an important avant jazz combo that featured Anthony Braxton, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Barry Altschul. The record captures a Parisian concert from 1971, and the band runs through a great reading of Wayne Shorter's "Nefertitti", plus original material like "Duet", "Toy Room – Q&A", "Song For The Newborn", and "Lookout Farm". LP, Vinyl record album
(US pressing. Cover has a mark from sticker removal and light wear.)

✨✧ Bill FrisellOrchestras ... CD
Blue Note, 2024. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A stunning setting for the guitar of Bill Frisell – and an album that's maybe even more beautiful than we might have expected! The record features Bill's core trio – with Rudy Royston on drums and Thomas Morgan on bass – but the real genius of the set may well come from the great Michael Gibbs – the British jazz musician and arranger who created some groundbreaking records in the late 60s and early 70s, and brings a commanding sense of tone and timing to the album! The whole thing has a vibe that's very different than other work from Frissell – and two larger ensembles provide the backings for arrangements crafted by Gibbs – sublime sonic energy on titles that include "Sweet Rain", "Electricity", "Nocturne Volgaire", "We Shall Overcome", "Monica Jane", and "Lookout For Hope". ✨✧ Space OperaSpace Opera (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
Epic/Beatball (Korea), 1972. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderful little record from the 70s – not nearly the cosmic set you might imagine from the title, and instead a warmly-produced album that's in the best 70s smooth mellow style! These guys would fit nicely in a collection next to Crosby Stills & Nash or America – as they've got a strong sense of harmony in their vocal approach – one that's schooled in the SoCal generation of the 60s, but taken to a whole new 70s territory in the studio – and supported by instrumentation that has some occasional jazz inflections which further warms the whole thing up! The group mix a bit of flute in with the keyboards, which seems to resonate almost as another voice – and although the guitar gets a bit stronger on a few numbers, it's usually more in the background to let the vocals rise up front. Titles include "My Telephone Artist", "Country Max", "Holy River", "Outlines", "Guitar Suite", "Lookout",a nd "Over & Over". CD

✨✧ WhateverValley Of Death (Or Whatever) (white vinyl pressing) ... LP
Beat Rocket, 1967. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Brilliant work from a Long Island group who are really known for just one famous single, but who also managed to cut a few other tracks at the time – all brought together here to make a long-overdue album for the group! "Valley Of Death" is the group's sole single – a great garage reworking of the poem "The Charge Of The Light Brigade", taken into really sinister territory – issued under the name of The Whatever, although the group also existed as The Raincoats and The Lookouts, both of who are featured here – alongside two very cool car dealership songs the group cut for Wolfinger Dodge! Titles include "The Valley Of Death", "More Than Fair", "Conscience", "Stranger", "No More Do I Dream", "You're Mine", "Away From You", and "Talking Out Of Turn" – plus two cool "Wolfinger Dodge" jingles, with surprisingly profane announcements! LP, Vinyl record album
