Nina Simone —
Let It All Out ... LP Philips, 1965. New Copy (reissue)...
$18.9925.99
A set that's a great bridge between the fuller sound of Nina Simone's late 60s material and some of smaller jazz combo work – as the album mostly features Nina working with a smaller group, but already at a level that hints at the righteous rising power in her music! The core combo features Rudy Stevenson on guitar and flute, Bobby Hamilton on drums, and LisleAtkinson on bass – and one track, "For Myself", features arrangements by Horace Ott – and another, "Images", was recorded live – but overall, the album's got a warmly intimate feel that's really great, and which has Nina singing in that perfect sharp-edged mode of the time. Titles include "Chauffeur", "The Other Woman", "This Year's Kisses", "Nearer Blessed Lord", "Ballad of Hollis Brown" and "Don't Explain". LP, Vinyl record album

Richard Wyands Trio —
Arrival ... CD DIW (Japan), 1992. Used ...
$24.99
Gently lyrical work from pianist Richard Wyands – supported here by LisleAtkinson on bass and Leroy Williams on drums. Wyands' voice on the piano has always been a bit more subtle than that of his contemporaries, but in a set like this – recorded in the fluid and open DIW style of the time – he really gets a chance to stretch out nicely, and play in a voice that draws on his many years in jazz. Titles include "Dee's Den", "The Juggler", "The Pawnbroker", "The Arrival", and "Sweetest Sounds". CD
The George Coleman Octet featured Coleman on tenor sax, Frank Strozier on alto sax, Junior Cook on tenor sax, Mario Rivera on baritone sax, Danny Moore on trumpet & flugelhorn, Harold Maburn on piano, LisleAtkinson on bass and Idris Muhammad on drums. There are a total of six track which include two Coleman originals "Joggin" and "Revival" plus Strozier's "Frank's Tune", "Green Dolphin Street", Shirley Scott's "Big George", and "Body & Soul". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mid 80s issue. Cover has light wear.)

Andrew Cyrille & Haitian Fascination —
Route De Freres ... CD Tum (Finland), 2005. Used ...
Out Of Stock
One of the warmest, most earthy albums we've ever heard from avant percussionist Andrew Cyrille – a set done with his Haitian Fascination group, and one that definitely lives up to that name! There's lots of percussion on the date – played by Cyrille and Frisner Augustin, mixed with these deep, round basslines from LisleAtkinson – amidst which dances acoustic guitar from Alix Pascal, almost with a bossa inspiration – and the whole thing's topped off with deeply soulful work on baritone sax by Hamiet Bluiett! The album's got all the freely creative energy of Cyrille and Bluiett's best from years back, but also has a more open, earnest feel too – really wonderful stuff, on original cuts that include "Route Des Freres", "Spirit Music", "Sankofa", "Ti Kawol", "Mais", "C'mon Baby", and "Marinet". Betty Carter —
Betty Carter ... LP Bet Car, Late 70s. Very Good+ ...
Out Of Stock
A fantastic LP by Betty Carter – and one of the first she issued on her own Bet-Car label, which she formed after years of being screwed by the music industry! The groove is extremely soulful – and backing is by Norman Simmons on piano, LisleAtkinson on bass, and Al Harewood on drums. Titles include Betty's own "Please Do Something", her great version of Randy Weston's "Ego", and her always-great rendition of "By The Bend In The River". LP, Vinyl record album

Andrew Cyrille —
Junction ... CD Why Not/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1976. New Copy ...
Out Of Stock
A really fantastic album from the legendary drummer Andrew Cyrille – a record that shouldn't be confused with the similarly-titled American set from the same time – as this one is a much more obscure Japanese record, and one that features a sublime spiritual avant sound throughout! The group's a quartet – and features stunning work from a young David S Ware on tenor and Ted Daniel on trumpet – in a piano-less group that also has incredible work on bass from LisleAtkinson – a player we know, but who really emerges here as a superstar in the free, open space of the record! Cyrille is mindblowing on drums – that free, post-rhythmic mode of his at its height – and the set features the long tracks "Notari/Variation Of Haru No Umi", "Interlude", "Raindrops", and "Junction".
