✨✧ Lazy LesterAll Over You (blue splatter vinyl pressing) ... LP
Antone's/New West, 1998. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A later performance from blues harmonica great Lazy Lester, but one that's got all the same great energy as his famous early work for the Excello label! There's plenty of grit in the grooves here – a set that's nicely under-produced, with a great backroom vibe – Lester blowing harp and singing, and playing some guitar – in a combo that also features piano, more guitar, bass, and drums! By this point in his career, Lester's vocals have gotten a nice edge – and titles include "I Need Money", "My Home Is A Prison", "The Sun Is Shining", "Irene", "Strange Things Happen", "I'm A Lover Not A Fighter", and "Nothing But The Devil". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Lazy LesterLazy Lester Rides Again (expanded edition) ... CD
Ace (UK), 1987. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Late 80s UK sessions from WC Handy Award winning blues man Lazy Lester – the Lazy Lester Rides Again album originally released by Blue Horizon label in '97 – plus a slew of previously unreleased recordings! Lester sings and blows harp, backed by electric guitar, bass, drums, piano and additional harmonica on this remarkably strong set from a period that arguably didn't produce a heck of a lot of great blues records. The Brits playing behind him do a terrific job here, too. Includes "Sugar Coated Love", "Can't Stand To See You Go", "Irene", "Nothing But The Devil" and more. 11 bonus tracks include "Travelling Days", "Lester's Shuffle", "Hey Mattie", "I Ain't Glad", "Rockin' With Lester" and more. ✨✧ VariousBluesin By The Bayou – I'm Not Jiving ... CD
Ace (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A very cool volume of this excellent series of Louisiana sounds – one that mixes rare and unreleased tracks from the late 50s from equally great 70s sounds – all with a unified bluesy groove that really makes the whole thing come together nicely! The 70s tracks have a style that's much more old school than some of the blues recordings from other scenes at the time! Most of this music could be of late 50s or early 60s vintage, given the approach – which often electrifies the guitar, sometimes throws in a harmonica solo, and usually keeps the rhythms as raw as the production – holding onto an edge that was often missing from more commercial blues productions of the period! There's also a number of cuts by artists you might also know from zydeco work, but who are definitely working here as blues musicians – really showing the link between the two styles. Some of the older music is from the Flyright label – those great JD Miller recordings from the farther reaches of the scene – and also includes some unreleased tracks, too. Package features 28 tracks in all – with titles that include "I'm Not Jiving" by Juke Boy Bonner, "I'm A Lucky Lucky Man" by Henry Gray, "She's Gone" by Schoolboy Cleve, "Wild About My Baby" by Slim Harpo, "No Use To Worry" by Lonesome Sundown, "Oh Yeah She's Gone" by Boozoo Chavis, "I Told My Little Woman" by Lazy Lester, "Late Hour Blues" by Henry Clement, "Night & Day My Love" by Clifton Chenier, "Frankie & Johnny" by Jimmy Anderson, and "Sitting Here Alone" by Johnny Sonnier.
