Henry Junjo LawesJuno Presents – Evil Curse Of The Vampires (2CD pressing) ... CD
Greensleeves, 1981. New Copy 2CD ... $23.99 26.98
Scientist spins out on a dub-driven power boat – scanning the swamps to drive out the vampires and a host of other ghouls too – all while reinventing Jamaican music in the process! The record's filled with lots of cool electric elements – those weird production effects and electronic doodles that make the music of Scientist so revolutionary – especially when spun out over a still-familiar backdrop supplied by Roots Radics, with a core essence that's very much from the pre-digital world of Jamaican music. Rhythm tracks were done at Channel One, and Scientist mixed the set at King Tubbys – a host of dub mini-masterpieces that include "The Voodoo Curse", "Dance Of The Vampires", "Blood On His Lips", "Cry Of The Werewolf", "the Mummy's Shroud", "The Corpse Rises", "Night Of The Living Dead", "Your Teeth In My Neck", "Plague Of Zombies", and "Ghost Of Frankenstein". 2CD version features a full bonus record of vocal versions – by Wailing Souls, Wayne Jarrett, Johnny Osbourne, and Michael Prophet! Barrington LevyRobin Hood ... LP
Jah Life/Greensleeves, 1979. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
We have to admit, even if this record wasn't a fierce salvo loaded down with tough dancehall tracks, we'd still love it for the great photos of Levy in a red, green and gold Robin hood getup on the cover! Junjo Lawes and Roots Radics may well have robbed from the rich for the mighty blasts of rhythm under Levy's outstanding vocals on this set that keeps up the pressure from start to finish! 10 tracks in all, including "Robin Hood", "Rock And Come In", "Love Sister Carol", "Gonna Tell Your Girlfriend", "You Come To Ask What Is Love", "Why Did You Leave Me", "Na Broke No Fight Over No Woman", "When Friday Comes", "Like How You Kiss & Caress Me" and more. Prince JammyPrince Jammy Destroys The Invaders ... LP
Greensleeves (UK), 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $24.99 25.99
This is sort of a Prince Jammy riff on the format of the popular Junjo Lawes-produced Scientist dub series. Nonetheless, he steps up to bat, and indeed defeats the evil planet munchers, with the able help of the Roots Radics rhytnm section. Recorded at Channel One and mixed at Tubby's – and how can you argue with that!? Fat, heavy rhythms dubbed into deep, deep outer space by the heir to the throne! 8 tracks in all, including "Conspiracy On Neptune", "Saturn Bombardment", "Attack on Ganymede", "Martian Encounter", "The Great Red Spot", "Life On Uranus", "Final Destruction" and "War In The Asteroid Belt". Roots Radics12 Inches Of Dub ... LP
VP/17 North Parade, Early 80s. New Copy (reissue)... $24.99 28.99
A massive set of rhythms from the legendary Roots Radics – one that's definitely got the dubby elements you'd expect from the title, but which also showcases the kind of rock-solid instrumentation the group always had at the core! The sound is almost effortless here – the kind of spare but brilliant music that only a few studio groups could do this well – with guitar from Eric Lamont, bass from Errol holt, keyboards from Steely Johnson, and all these fantastic echoey drums from Lincoln Valentine Scott – all produced to perfection by Henry Junjo Lawes. The whole thing's great – a mindbending trip through sound and space – with titles that include "Young Banana Dub", "Headlamp Dub", "Dub In Flames", "Confessions Of A Dub Engineer", "Young Gal Dub", and "Carry On Dubbing". Linval ThompsonI Love Marijuana (180 gram yellow vinyl pressing) ... LP
Trojan/Music On Vinyl (Netherlands), Late 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $29.99 33.99
A record with a striking title – and a set that really marked the full promise of Linval Thompson in the 70s – a dubby classic that's every bit as strong on the vocal side of Thompson's skills, as it is the production side! The album was recorded at Tubby's with the Revolutionaries band and an uncredited Junjo Lawes (who would later go on to cut some of the best dub albums ever, with Scientist) – and the vocals have this great style of cresting between sweeter modes and more biting modes – particularly when wrapped around the social themes that always made Thompson stand out. Titles include "I Love Marijuana", "Don't Push Your Brother", "Dread Are the Controller", "The Children of the Ghetto", "Not Follow Fashion", and "Jamaican Colley Version". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited to 750 copies.)

Classic mid 80s dancehall from Yellowman! Production by Henry Junjo Lawes, backing by Roots Radics and rhythms laid down at Channel One – often the recipe for greatness – and that's on the menu here. Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt came at an inarguable peak for Yellowman, with unstoppable rhythms and Yellowman's brilliant way of delivering gruff lyricism in an approachable way. Revolutionary material from an icon at a creatively crucial peak.
