Robbie BashoSongs Of The Great Mystery – The Lost Vanguard Sessions ... CD
Vanguard/Real Gone, Early 70s. New Copy ... $12.99 13.99
A never-issued album from the guitar genius Robbie Basho – material recorded at the same Vanguard Records sessions that produced his monumental albums Voice Of The Eagle and Zarthus, and every bit as great as the work that appeared on those records – and as the tracks on Basho's Takoma Records albums from the 60s! The set features Robbie doing a bit of his unusual vocalizations, but in a way that's folded in very strongly with his unusual phrasings on acoustic guitar – although with Basho maybe hitting a more familiar folk style at some moments, even though the lyrics are all his own, and have a mystical quality that really matches his work on guitar. There's a really haunting quality to the whole record, and the vocal tunes could easily have Basho right up there with left-field contemporaries, like Fred Neil on Capitol, or Tim Hardin on his early Columbia years – but, mixed with the longform guitar explorations, create a vibe that's completely Robbie's own. Titles include "A Day In The Life Of Lemuria", which is an unusual piano/whistling tune – plus "The Butterfly Of Wonder", "Thunder Sun", "Song Of The Great Mystery", "Thunder Love", "Death Song", "Night Way", and "Katerei Tekakwitha". CD

John FaheyJohn Fahey Volume 6 – Days Have Gone By ... LP
Takoma, 1967. Very Good- ... $19.99
John Fahey just got deeper and deeper with each new record of his early years – and this sublime sixth set is a unique blend of his amazing work on guitar, his timeless sense of music, and his growing ear for odd elements and atmospherics that make his records far more than just the usual acoustic folk blues of the time! Instead, the whole thing's this kind of pioneering mixture of organic sounds – still years ahead of its time, and put together with this sensibility that it took most folks decades to appreciate – every bit as revelatory on a first listen today as it must have been back in the 60s. Titles include "A Raga Called Pat", "The Revolt Of The Dyke Brigade", "Days Have Gone By", "We Would Be Building", and "Night Train Of Valhalla". LP, Vinyl record album
(Non-logo black label pressing, in a paste-on cover which has masking tape along the top and bottom seam.)

✨✧ VariousBeats & Pieces Vol 3 – Music For The More Discerning Dancefloor ... CD
BBE (UK), 2004. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A very well-titled set – and the best so far in this cutting-edge series! The "beats and pieces" this time around are mostly underground club tracks from the past few years – the cream of the crop of the best bits that hit our New Grooves section, often served up in harder-to-find mixes that represent the best version of the tunes so far! There's no overall stylistic logic to the set, which is what makes it so great – as mellow soul steps into funky club, into spacey fusion, global house, 21st century groove, then dancefloor jazz! 2CD set features 22 tracks that include "Wake Up" by Herbert, "La Malanga (Kenny Dope rmx)" by Bobby Hutcherson, "Fall Into You" by Stateless, "Hot In Here" by Tiga with Jake Shears, "Take Off (Nicola Conte's Campi's Idea version)" by Nathan Haines and Marco Di Marco, "Bukom Mashie" by Oscar Sulley & The Uhuru Dance Band, "Somebody New" by Georg Levin with Clara Hill, "Besides Myself" by DJ Shaheer Williams, "Timbuktu" by Pan African Electronic Beats, "Someone To Love" by Crusho, "Love & War (version)" by Amp Fiddler, "Forty Days" by Billy Brooks, and "Fall Into You" by Stateless.
