✨✧ Howard HewettForever & Ever ... LP
Elektra, 1988. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Howard Hewett's got a smooth look on the cover, but the album's got a nice degree of crackle all the way through – that snappy, soulful style that Hewett did so well back in the day – working here as almost a one-man powerhouse on production and arrangements too! The tunes are catchy, but never too crossover – and Hewett has this way of bringing in a subtle drama on the upbeat tracks, while avoiding some of the cliches of his contemporaries – then sliding into some mellower moments that really hold the album together strongly. Production is definitely in a late 80s R&B mode, but with a style that really sets it apart – and titles include "Strange Relationship", "This Time", "Good Bye Good Friend", "Challenge", "Natural Love", "Once Twice Three Times", "Shakin My Emotion", and "Share A Love". ✨✧ Howard HewettI Commit To Love ... LP
Elektra, 1986. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
An 80s classic from Howard Hewett – just the kind of set that made the singer one of the freshest voices in soul at the time! Hewett's vocals are lean and right on the money – perfectly suited to fit the 80s groove mode of the backings – especially the bubbly, bouncy kind of cuts that were always Howard's catchiest numbers – and which, honestly, should have had him crossing over much bigger at the time! Beats and keyboards glide along nicely throughout – and titles include "Stay", "Say Amen", "I Got 2 Go", "Last Forever", "I Commit To Love", "Love Don't Wanna Wait", and "Let's Try It All Over Again". Greg PhillinganesPulse ... LP
Planet, 1985. Very Good+ ... $13.99
Greg's definitely showing off all his chops on this one – working with help from a huuuge array of famous guest stars – including The Pointer Sisters, James Ingram, Howard Hewett, Jackie Jackson, Michael Jackson, Robbie Nevil, and others. And while the bulk of the record really shows the influence of these mainstream 80s soul artists – and not always in a good way – the record also sports a brilliant tune done with Donald Fagan of Steely Dan, the sweetly grooving "Lazy Nina", which sounds like the best work off Fagan's Nightfly, and has Greg and Don duetting on vocals! Titles include "Behind The Mask", "Signals", "Shake It", "Countdown To Love", "Come As You Are", and "Playin With Fire". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has some edge & surface wear, small drip stains.)

✨✧ ShalamarBig Fun ... LP
Solar, 1979. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A definite bit of Big Fun from Shalamar – totally tight and very much at the top of their game – making the transition from disco modes to leaner 80s groove, thanks to lots of great production and songwriting help from Leon Sylvers! Sylvers was really emerging as one of the key forces on Solar Records at the time – and he does a great job here of shaping the trio's strong vocals – which includes work by Howard Hewett and Jody Watley – both of whom are right at home on the album's groovers. Titles include their classic "The Second Time Around", plus "Girl", "The Right Time For Us", "Right In The Socket", and "Take Me to The River". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ George DukeDuke (CD & DVD) ... CD
BPM, 2005. Used CD/DVD ... Out Of Stock
A recent album from the legendary George Duke, and a great one too – put together with a sense of soul and sound that really recalls some of Duke's best work of the late 70s! The album's got a wonderful balance between electric and acoustic elements – especially at points when George puts the keyboards aside, and steps out on acoustic piano – creating lines that ring out proudly amidst the warm backdrops of the group. George also handles some Fender Rhodes on the record, with a very old school vibe – and in addition to his own lead vocals, the set also features backups from Eric Benet, Howard Hewett, Jim Gilstrap, and Rachelle Ferrell. Titles include a sweet remake of "Superwoman", plus "No One", "T-jam", "Sausalito", "Saturday Night", "Hybrids", "Homeland", and "Trust". DVD contains excerpts from the Live In Tokyo 1983 DVD. CD
(Digipak has some wear.)
