Forget the blues in the title – as this is a funky soul instrumental gem – a really great record from the mighty Gene Dozier – an artist you might know best for his work in the funky 45 format – and who certainly brings that energy to bear on this unusual album for Minit Records! Gene turns in some killer originals that really live up to the best funky 45 mode – including "One For Bess" and "Hunk Of Funk", both with nice grooves – and the set also has some great soul instrumentals, including versions "Watermelon Man", "Soul Stroll", and "Cold Sweat".
