✨✧ Rae BourbonGirl Of The Golden West ... LP
UTC, Mid 50s. Near Mint- ... $11.99
Insane work from Rae Bourbon – a 50s female impersonator with a very flamboyant style! The set features Rae speaking and singing over light piano backing – talking in a voice that was the standard "swish" tone of the time, and working through routines and situations that are filled with innuendo – mostly of the gay bent. Titles include "The Railroad's Coming Thru", "Where Does The Difference Come In", "Ugh", and "Horse Opera" – all numbers with a slight western bent, as you'd guess from the title. Kind of the darker side of the western genre in the 50s – and nice to hear someone re-imagining it with a bit of lust in the dust! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

KrackerHot ... CD
Dash/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1976. New Copy ... $14.99 19.99
An unusual set from Kracker – a record that's possibly more rock/pop at the core, but one that definitely shares some of the soulful touches of other albums on the Dash label too! The group dress like a funk band on the album's flipside photo – and they've got vocal interplay that's not unlike some of the blue eyed soul groups on the east coast – set to rhythms here that are sometimes disco, sometimes a bit more flamboyant pop – and titles include "Woman", "Lucky Are Those", "Lady Of My Life", "Alarm Clock Blues", "Back In My Arms Again", and "Gentleman Of Men". ✨✧ Alvin CashWindy City Workout – The Essential Dance Craze Hits & Rarities 1964 to 1973 ... CD
Mar V Lus/Charly (UK), 1960s/Early 70s. Used 2 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The full scope of genius from the legendary Alvin Cash – not just his 60s gritty groovers, but a host of later funk tracks as well – all packaged into a beautiful book-styled package! Cash is one of our favorite Chicago artists ever – a dancer by trade, but a flamboyant personality who always managed to make his way center stage – whether live or in the recording studio! The set begins with early "twine" numbers from Alvin – some romping heavy soul tracks that have a very deep bottom, and a raw sound that's equal part R&B and Chicago soul – definitely tuned towards the dancefloor crowd that was a natural fit for Cash's energy. As the set moves on, it then picks up some wicked late 60s singles for the Toddlin Town label, and also includes some excellent early 70s groovers for Sound Stage Seven – some of Alvin's hardest, heaviest numbers ever. The set features work by Alvin Cash with The Registers, Hundred Dollar Bills, The Crawlers, and Scott Brothers Orchestra – and titles include "Keep On Dancing (parts 1 & 2)", "Funky 69", "Moanin & Groanin", "Doin The Creep", "It's Party Time", "Funky Washing Machine", "Alvin's Doin His Thing", "Funky Street", "Doin The Ali Shuffle", "Whip It On Me", "The Charge", "Boston Monkey", "The Philly Freeze", "Alvin's Boogaloo", "Let's Do Some Good Timing", "The Bump", "Twine Time", "Twine Awhile", "The Barracuda", and "You Shot Me Through The Grease". ✨✧ Johnny HolidayBlue Holiday (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Contract/SSJ (Japan), 1961. Used ... Out Of Stock
Possibly the rarest album ever from vocalist Johnny Holiday – and that's saying a heck of a lot, given the rarity of his albums! Holiday's a really overlooked talent from the west coast scene of the 50s – a singer with a great sense of depth and darkness, and one who sounds especially great here. At some level, Johnny's got an approach that's similar to some of the less flamboyant male vocalists of his time – such as Matt Dennis – but he's also got a somewhat fuller voice and raspier tone, a sensibility that's quite human and personal – and which almost makes us feel like we're hearing Holiday speak the lyrics of most of these tunes as private musings, locked up in some corner tavern long after closing time! There's a nicely saloony feel to the whole set – a style that's not the sleepy vocalist with trio mode heard often with female singers, but which also isn't the hard-swinging Sinatra-reaching mode of other males contemporaries of Holiday. Titles include "You Don't Know What Love Is", "No One Ever Tells You", "Too Late Now", "I Remember You", "My Love Left Town", "It's Easy To Remember", and "The Things We Did Last Summer". CD also features the bonus track "It Might As Well Be Spring". CD

✨✧ MudMud – The Singles 1973 to 1980 (3CD set) ... CD
7T's, 1970s. New Copy 3CD ... Out Of Stock
Mud never cracked the charts big on our side of the Atlantic, but for a brief time in the 70s they were one of the hottest glam rock acts going – a group who were maybe a bit more down to earth than some of their flamboyant contemporaries, and able to mix slight currents of older rock modes with some of the sinister sounds that often made mainstream glam recordings feel like you were listening to something from the children of Clockwork Orange! This huge set goes farther than any other Mud collection we've seen before – beginning with that moment when the group moved over to RAK Records, and really found their sound – then spreading out through the rest of the 70s, when some of their other chart-topping contemporaries had given up steam, but Mud were still going strong – likely for some as an antidote to punk! Some of the later work here was recorded under other names – as Roly, Ring, and Les Gray – but the set's got a nicely unified vibe over the course of its 60 total tracks – and also includes detailed notes on the surprisingly long legacy of the group. Doris DukeLegend In Her Own Time (180 gram pressing – colored vinyl) ... LP
Mankind/Kent (UK), 1975. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99 24.99
One of the few albums cut by this oft-overlooked southern soul diva – and one that mixes Muscle Shoals production with some nice uptown touches! Produced by Jerry Williams, Jr., aka Swamp Dogg! While the title comes of a bit flamboyantly, in truth, this record is an honest, personal, and earthy southern soul should-be classic. It's not only a personal triumph for Doris Duke, it's also one of greatest Swamp Dogg-produced records! Includes "I Wish I Could Sleep", "It Sure Was Fun", "He's Everything I Need", "Since I Fell For You", "Let Love Touch Us Now", "Bad Water", and a cool cover of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". ✨✧ Redd FoxxYou Gotta Wash Your Ass ... CD
Atlantic/Real Gone, 1975. Used ... Out Of Stock
Redd Foxx doing is thing live in '75 at the Apollo – his return to recording after 12 years without a comedy album! You Gotta Wash Your Ass was cut while Sanford & Son was still in its run – making this blue performance a gritty return to form for Foxx! It isn't as flamboyantly raw as some of his earlier records – but there are a lot of funny moments here – with a laidback Foxx riffing on themes that younger black comics were only then catching up with! It's best routine might be the one on the meaning of "Funky" – and that one's just waiting for one of you budding DJs to start cutting it up on the 1's and 2's! Other bits & punchlines include "Ugly Kids In New York", "Two Sissies", "I Was An Altar Boy", "Have You Tried Ban Roll On?", "I Love Black Women", "You're Kind Of Dumb & Ugly", "I Hate A Loud Broad", "I Stick It In Beans", "Ni**er's In The Dictionary", "You Look Like A Pu**y To Me" and "You Gotta Wash Your Ass".
