Mr ChopFor Pete's Sake (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
Five Day Weekend/Now Again, 2009. Used ... $6.99
Space funk specialist Mr Chop takes on the beatcraft genius of Pete Rock on For Pete's Sake – blueprint Pete Rock singles and benchmark beats – refashioned as fuzzed out psychedelic funk instrumentals! It works out masterfully, and very much in the mold of some of our other favorite material by Mr Chop and fellow travellers The Heliocentrics in recent years. Heavy drums & percussion, killer bass rhythms, fuzzy funk rock guitars, cosmic keys and synths galore. It's done with Pete Rock's core inspiration pretty well pronounced on the standouts like "TROY", "Mecca And The Soul Brother" and "The World Is Yours", but Mr Chop really makes the groove his own – a sonic stamp that shoots far into the cosmos! Other tracks include "Good Life", "Main Ingredient", "Get On The Mic", "Straighten It Out". "I Got A Love" and "Intermezzo" (1-7). CD

Mr ChopSilver Frequencies ... CD
Now Again/Five Day Weekend, 2009. Used ... $4.99
An overlooked chapter in the Mr Chop canon! Coz Littler, aka Mr. Chop, has been a beacon in the future groove cosmos for years now – filtering his love for spacey 70s psych funk through classic-era hip hop beatcraft in a distinctive, irresistible way – and he's uber-prolific, too. In fact, he's so prolific, we somehow snoozed through the release of '09's Silver Frequencies, probably while playing the heck out of For Pete's Sake, which came out that same year. Better late than never! Silver Frequencies is up there with his best stuff – with heavy drums, killer Rhodes, Hammond and other cosmic keyboards, fuzzy guitars and unshakable rhythms. Titles include "Silver Frequencies", "Feathers On Fire", the amazing "Psychic Psych" (with some great guest sax by Colin Lamont, "Outside My Door", "Hole In The Sky", "Magic Box", "Flashbacks", the 7-part "Intermezzo", "Ends And Means Dub" and many more. Oh NoOhnomite ... CD
Brick/Five Day Weekend, 2012. Used ... Just Sold Out!
Oh No once again delivers on the conceptual front – an allstar hip hop project built on Dolemite samples – produced and arranged by Oh No and featuring a stellar guest roster with Erick Sermon, MF Doom, Evidence, Alchemist, Big Pooh, Frank Nitt, Roc C, Guilty Simpson, Jose James, Phife Dawg and more! Rudy Ray Moore and his Dolemite are a vital part of underground hip hop' DNA, so to Oh No's credit, he doesn't go for most obvious fodder or weigh it all too heavily with movie dialogue or the most memorable soundtrack bits. Like the best hip hop ever made, Oh No crafts personal, unique and original music out of samples, and this record belongs to him and his guests! Includes "Real Serious" with Evidence & Alchemist, "The Guns" feat Guilty Simpson & MED, "Time" feat Roc C & Chino XL, "Hallucinations" feat Prozack Turner, "Ohnomite Jazz", "Touch It" feat Frank Nitt, "Dues N Donts" feat Jose James & Phife Dawg, "Runnin The Show" feat Erick Sermon. CD features 2 bonus tracks: "Life Games" feat LMNO and "Overload" feat Wildchild. CD

✨✧ VariousJourney Into Paradise – The Larry Levan Story ... CD
Rhino, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used 2 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Classic club and soulful disco, all brought together in service of the lasting memory of Larry Levan – legendary DJ at the Paradise Garage, and a key force in shaping the sound of the dancefloor for years to come! The set features some material presented in special Larry Levan mixes, plus others pulled from rare 12" singles back in the day – and together the whole thing makes for a great collection of grooves from the left end of the spectrum – a great antidote to popular disco at the end of the 70s, and proof that the creative sound of the dancefloor was still burning strong! 2CD set features a total of 22 tracks – surprisingly well collected for anything with the Rhino name on it, and including "Love Has Come Around (12" version)" by Donald Byrd & 125th Street NYC, "Lover's Holiday (12" version)" by Change, "It Should Have Been You (12" voc)" by Gwen Guthrie, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough (garage version)" by Inner Life, "Why Leave Us Alone (12" long version)" by Five Special, "Lost In Music (1984 Niles Rodgers rmx)" by Sister Sledge, "Baby I'm Scared Of You" by Womack & Womack, "You Can't Hide" by David Joseph, "Bad For Me (12" long version)" by Dee Dee Bridgewater, "Smack Dab In The Middle" by Janice McClain, "We Got The Funk (12" US re-edit)" by Poisitive Force, "Haven't You Heard" by Patrice Rushen, "Weekend (12" extended)" by Phreek, "Clouds" by Chaka Khan, "Love Injection" by Trussel, "Can't Play Around (12" vocal)" by Lace, and "Heartbeat (club)" by Taana Gardner.
