Decca, 1959. Very Good 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A great look back at the early years of Ernest Tubb – a set that was recorded at the end of the 50s, and which features Ernest presenting new stereo versions of all his early country classics! The updates are wonderful, and lose nothing at all from the sound of the originals – and backing by the Texas Troubadours is tighter than ever – a perfect understated balance for the unique phrasing that always made Tubb one of the standouts, right from the start! Titles include two dozen classics, without a clunker in the bunch – tracks that include "Walkin The Floor Over You", "There's A Little Bit Of Everything In Texas", "When The World Has Turned You Down", "I'll Get Along Somehow", "Slippin Around", "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle", "Carless Driftin", "Tomorrow Never Comes", "You Nearly Lose Your Mind", "Though The Days Were Only Seven", and "Let's Say Goodbye Like We Said Hello". Iron Mountain Analog Research (Australia), Late 1950s/1960s/Early 1970s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great set of booze-themed songs from the glory days of country music – and a package that includes some well-chosen work from singers we really love a lot! The set features names you might know from other, bigger tracks – but singing here about a preference for alcohol, often with a message about the price they've got to pay for loving it so much! Titles include "Hell's Angels" by Johnny Bond, "Bury The Bottle With Me" by Darrel McCall, "It's Nothing To Me" by Dick Curless, "Ship In The Bottle" by Stonewall Jackson, "Sleeping Like A Baby With A Bottle In My Mouth" by Eddie Noack, "Bottle Bottle" by Jim Ed Brown, and "I'm Gonna Make Like A Snake" by Ernest Tubb. ✨✧ VariousChristmas On The Countryside – 27 Honky Tonkin Christmas Country Songs ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 40s/1950s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Maybe one of the coolest country Christmas collections we've ever heard – but then again, we'd expect no less from the folks at Bear Family! There's a lot of great original tunes here – which are mixed with country-fied takes on more popular Holiday songs from the midcentury years – often served up here by singers that were the bigger names of their generation, caught in a very special setting for the month of December! As usual with Bear Family, the presentation is great – vivid images inside and out – and notes on every single track – supporting a selection of 27 titles that include "I'll Be Walking The Floor This Christmas" by Ernest Tubb, "Senor Santa Claus" by Jim Reeves, "Christmas Dinner" by Tennessee Ernie Ford, "Snowdeer" by Carl Smith, "They Shined Up Rudolph's Nose" by Johnny Horton, "Santa Claus Jr" by Eddi Cletro, "It's Christmas Every Day In Alaska" by Hank Thompson, "It Was Jesus (undubbed)" by Johnny Cash, "Reindeer Boogie" by Hank Snow, "The Christmas Boogie" by Davis Sisters, "I'm Your Private Santa Claus" by Eddie Arnold, "I'm Gonna Tell Santa Claus On You" by Faron Young, "Captain Santa Claus" by Bobby Helms, "Santa's Big Parade" by The Louvin Brothers, and "Christmas In My Hometown" by Sonny James. ✨✧ VariousChristmas On The Range – 26 Festive & Swinging Country Tunes ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 40s/1950s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really cool collection of vintage country music Christmas tunes – not just hits, but some excellent obscure material – all pulled together in a way that really lives up to the high standards we expect from the Bear Family label! These tracks are pulled together from a variety of labels and sources, and don't just include cowboy numbers you might guess from the "range" in the title – but also western swing, honky tonk, and maybe a few countrypolitan gems as well! The set features 26 titles in all – with great graphics and notes throughout – to accompany titles that include "Santa Claus Is Coming" by Skeeter Davis, "Santa's On His Way" by Bob Wills, "North Pole Boogie" by Billy Briggs, "Christmas Can't Be Far Away" by Eddie Arnold, "Christmas Time's A-Coming" by Bill Monroe, "Jolly Old St Nicholas" by Wilf Carter, "I Wish Everyday Was Christmas" by Ray Salter, "New Baby For Christmas" by George Jones, "Blue Snowfall" by George Morgan, "White Christmas" by Ernest Tubb, "Christmas Carols By The Old Corral" by Tex Ritter, "No Place Like Home On Christmas" by Little Jimmy Dickens, "It's Christmas Time" by The Louvin Brothers, "Home At Christmas" by Nelson Young, "I'm Gonna Lasso Santa" by Brenda Lee, and "We Wanna See Santa Do The Mambo" by Terry Fell. Ernest RanglinBelow The Bassline ... CD
Island Jamaica Jazz, 1996. Used ... $9.99
An excellent "comeback" LP for Ernest Ranglin, though astute observers realize he never really went away in the first place! Ranglin was always able to move back and forth easily between the worlds of groovy jazz, playing alongside Monty Alexander on some of his finest 70s sides, and Jamaican studio work, serving guitar duties at Studio One, cutting some of the rhythms that would serve as the foundation for much of the Jamaican music throughout the years! This set finds him in fine form, rendering excellent jazzy versions of numerous classic rhythms with a crack band that includes old mates Monty Alexander on piano, Roland Alphonso on saxes, and funky drummer Idris Muhammad! 11 tracks in all: "Congo Man", "Surfin'", "King Tubby MeetsThe Rockers", "Satta Massagana", "54-46 (Was My Number)", "None Shall Escape The Judgement", "Ball Of Fire", and "Black Disciples" CD
(Out of print.)
