A lovely set of 70s
jazz vocals – recorded by American singer Ann Young,
with backing by a Japanese combo led by pianist Yuji
Ohno! The sound is pretty darn soulful – tracks that range from modal groovers to mellow ballads, all sung by Ann
with a really rich vocal approach, and backed up
with lightly dancing notes that give the album a really classic feel. The whole thing reminds us a lot of some of the best Lorez Alexandria work from the 70s –
with a similar talent for hitting strong notes, and working in some
great bass next to the vocals. Titles include a
jazz dancer version of "Speak Low", plus "Old Devil Moon", "Don't Explain", "I Only Have Eyes For You", "Autumn In New York", and "It Might As Well Be Spring".
