VariousWonder Of Stevie 3 – Presented By DJ Spinna ... CD
BBE (UK), 1970s/2016. New Copy 2 CDs ... $12.99 24.98
An incredible collection of Stevie Wonder cover versions – different versions of familiar tunes, but ones that really manage to sparkle with all the righteous soul of the Stevie himself! It's been over a decade since DJ Spinna brought us the last version of his Wonder Of Stevie series – and during that time, he's managed to come up with a huge amount of great tracks that make the whole thing go way way deeper than before – not just cuts that copy the Wonder mode, but which seem to draw strong inspiration from its genius, and really soar to the skies! Much of the music here resonates with a charm that's located around the years of albums like Music Of My Mind and Innervisions, with all the jazzy currents that might imply – and some cuts are 70s vintage, others are more contemporary. Titles include "Bird Of Beauty" by US Atlantic First Navy Show Band, "It's My Pleasure" by Billy Preston, "Love's In Need Of Love Today" by John Minnis Big Bone Band, "As" by Tony Sherman, "Buttercup" by Jackson 5, "Have A Talk With God" by East St Louis Gospelettes, "Betcha Wouldn't Hurt Me" by Quincy Jones, "Golden Lady" by Reel People with Tony Momrelle, "If You Don't Love Me" by GC Cameron, "If She Breaks Your Heart Again" by Foreign Exchange, "Don't You Worry Bout A Thing" by Black Sugar, "Go Home" by Jrod Indigo, and "Make My Water Boil" by David Ruffin. 2CDs – one of the cuts unmixed, one with the tracks in a continuous mix by Spinna! ✨✧ Roy Porter Sound MachineParty Time (orig, DJ Spinna edit) ... 7-inch
Bel Ad/P-Vine (Japan), 1975. New Copy (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
Heavy funk from the great Roy Porter – one of his most break-heavy tracks ever! "Party Time" has a wicked start that DJs have been digging for years – and the whole tune's this wibbly wobbly funky gem – with sweet Fender Rhodes, this cool chorus, and a skittish groove that never lets up! DJ Spinna does a great job on his own edit – really loving the break, and lifting up the Rhodes in a way that makes the whole thing sound even funkier! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Nicola Conte & Gianluca PetrellaNew World Shuffle (DJ Spinna Galactic Soul rmx)/Inner Light (Anthony Nicholson Miquifaye rmx) ... 12-inch
Schema (Italy), 2022. New Copy (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
Two of our favorite mixers take on some great work from Nicola Conte – each making the tunes very much their own! DJ Spinna brings plenty of soul to "New World Shuffle" – letting the tune crackle and build over the long space of eight minutes – while Bridgette Amofah sings lyrics over the warmly flowing groove! Our local hero Anthony Nicholson brings a wickedly funky groove to "Inner Light" – starting with a tribal house rhythm, then getting more straightforwardly funk – while Raashan Amad delivers some knowledge over the top! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ VariousTrip Do Brasil Vol 2 – Still Mixing Brazilian Vibes With Electronic Beatz ... CD
Small (France), 2001. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The Brazilian vibe continues to spread worldwide, as a host of French and European producers go to town on a great set of tracks tinged with the sound of Brazil! This one's a lot more open-ended than some of the other sets on the market with a similar approach, in that the tracks don't necessarily focus on the dancefloor, so much as they expand the groove for a wider variety of experiences. Of course, there's still more than a few toe-tappers on the set – very much in the best style of work on Compost in a similar vein. Titles include "Brazil.com" by Isolee, "Non Fatiguing Natural Silk" by WR, "Ibis Vermelho" by Rom, "My Little Brazilian Pony" by Dr Rockit, "Tridade" by Alex Kid feat Jerome Badini, "Jelba" by Russ Gabriel, "Obrigado" by The Deal, "Bahia Blues" by DJ Spinna, "Tiu Ba La Quieba" by Boyz From Brazil, and "Kotu Rete" by Mental Remedy. ✨✧ Jackson 5Best Of Jackson 5 Remixes – Compiled By Soul Source (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Universal (Japan), Early 1970s. Used ... Out Of Stock
What a great idea! The classic Motown work of The Jackson 5 is remixed and remade by a host of super-hip producers! The cuts really retain a lot of their Motown soul flavor, and the remixers do an excellent job of pulling out some of the best elements – like guitar riffs, piano lines, and drumbeats – while still preserving the original vocal direction of the songs. This limited package features tracks from both of the older Soul Source remix collections of The Jacksons – with a total of 15 tracks that include "Ben (HF rmx #4)", "Darling Dear (rejuvenated by Muro mix)", "I'll Be There (Small Circle Of Friends rmx)", "It's Great To Be Here (Kenny Dope rmx)", "We're Almost There (DJ Spinna rmx)", "Get It Together (4Hero rmx)", "ABC (Love Stream mix)", "I Want You Back (Kei Kobayashi's routine jazz party mix)", "Ain't No Sunshine (SSY rmx)", "Never Can Say Goodbye (Shinichi Osawa 3000 rmx)", and "The Love You Save (Asakusa Sunaga T Experience SC 01 mix)". ✨✧ JazztronikRemixes Part 1 ... CD
Tokuma (Japan), 2006. Used ... Out Of Stock
Jazztronik alone are great enough – but this excellent collection really takes them to a whole new level, by letting in collaborative talents on a host of remixes – all of which further expand the groove of Jazztronik's recent Cannibal Rock and En:Code albums! In recent years, Jazztronik have deepened their sound even more than before – working in bright Brazilian and Latin influences to their mix of cosmic and jazzy dancefloor modes, all of which dance together beautifully in this wonderful set of work. The album is way more than just one of those "hey, let's let someone else mess with the originals" sort of projects – as all tunes here really keep the original Jazztronik spirit burning bright, and respect the vibe that first allowed all of this to happen! Titles on this first volume include "Dentro Mi Alma (Yoruba Soul rmx)", "Searching For Love (Rasmus Faber rmx)", "Working Days (DJ Spinna mix)", "Pathways Jazztronik Theme (Sleepwalker rmx)", "Get It Right (Isoul 8 rmx)", "En Code (As One rmx)", "Samurai (Yukihiro Fukutomi rmx)", and "City Of Rivers (Franck Roger rmx)". ✨✧ Louie VegaElements Of Life – Extensions ... CD
Vega/MAW, 2005. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great album – made even better – as Louie Vega's heavenly Elements Of Life set gets "extensions" from a host of other producers and DJs! This isn't one of those "let's see how much we can mess up the original record" sort of projects – as the core sound and soul of Louie's beautiful record is still very firmly in place – and if anything, there's kind of an extended collaborative spirit going on – as the original record was already very much a group effort, and the added mixing talents here only expand the collaborations going on! The whole thing's wonderful – and almost feels like a fresh new album at times – a much-needed follow-up to the brilliant full length that Louie already dropped on us. CD features a total of 13 tracks that include "Cerca De Mi (Kenny Dope rmx)", "Jungle Fever (Atoj rmx)", "Let The Children Play (original mix)", "Ma Mi Mama (Freeform U Heirs vox mix)", "A Better Day (DJ Spinna rmx)", "Love Is On The Way (featuring Blaze)", "Sunshine (Sacred Rhythm mix)", and "Nos Vida (MAW rmx)". ✨✧ Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed MuhammadJazz Is Dead 10 – Remixes ... CD
Jazz Is Dead, 2022. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic extension of the Jazz Is Dead series – a run of records that's already got a wonderfully collaborative vibe, which is taken even further with these tracks! As you might guess from the title, the album features remixes of cuts from the previous nine volumes – and the choice of remixers is really top-shelf – a great run of talents who now add their voices to the stunning sounds created by the host of famous jazz/funk talents who worked alongside Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad in the studio! Every track has a nicely different vibe, but not in a way that's schizophrenic – as the music really opens up from the sounds at the core, while still holding onto them as well. Titles include "Gotta Love Again (Kaidi Tatham rmx)" with Marcos Valle, "Soulful & Unique (Pink Sifu rmx)" with Roy Ayers, "Soulsea (Cut Chemist rmx)" with Gary Bartz, "Redor Do Samba (DJ Spinna rmx)" with Azymuth, "Liasons (Diabiase rmx)" with Joao Donato, "Nancy Wilson (Shigeto rmx)" with Brian Jackson, "Windfall (Natureboy Flako rmx)" with Doug Carn, and "Jazz Is Dead (Georgia Anne Muldrow geemix)" with The Midnight Hour. ✨✧ VariousVerve Remixed 2 ... CD
Verve, 1960s/2003. Used ... Out Of Stock
Classic jazz for the 21st century – a treasure trove of tunes from Verve Records, all remixed for the modern dancefloor! The set's the second in Verve's Remixed series – and unlike the first, which focused mostly on vocal numbers, this one throws in some instrumental killers that are among some of our favorite in the catalog! The overall groove is much more expanded from the first session – way past the standard of floating vocals, keys, and beats – into a realm of abstract jazz that really gets at the heart of the project! 14 tracks in all – with "Manteca" by Dizzy Gillespie remixed by Funky Lowlives, "Here's That Rainy Day" by Astrud Gilberto remixed by Koop, "Naima's Love Song" by Betty Carter remixed by DJ Spinna, "Fried Neckbones & Some Home Fries" by Willie Bobo remixed by Dan The Automator, "Soul Sauce" by Cal Tjader remixed by Fila Brasillia, "Do What You Wanna" by Ramsey Lewis remixed by Mr Scruff, "Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair" by Nina Simone remixed by Jaffa, "Mama" by Hugh Masekela remixed by Metro Area, "Whatever Lola Wants" by Sarah Vaughan remixed by Gotan Project, "Blues For Brother George Jackson" by Archie Shepp remixed by Mondo Grosso, and "Brother Where Are You" by Oscar Brown Jr remixed by Matthew Herbert. ✨✧ SouliveTurn It Out Remixed ... CD
Velour, 2003. Used ... Out Of Stock
Soulive's funky funky Turn It Out album gets remixed – in a way that pushes that work way past the original! The choice of talents associated with the project is very strong – and the music is stretched to new limits with the addition of hip hop beats, MCs, and some other great instrumental touches. The overall feel is still very funky, with lots of snapping grooves that keep the spirit of the original record – and the quality of the record makes it well worth the Japanese-only price tag! Remixers include DJ Smash, DJ Spinna, DJ Krush, Echobass, Mister Rourke, and Neal Evans – and titles include remixes of "Turn It Out", "Cash's Dream", "Azucar" (featuring J-Live), "Soulive", "Steppin" (featuring Shuman), "Doin Something", and "Nealization". ✨✧ VariousBlue Note Revisited ... LP
Blue Note, 2004. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A dream come true! Someone at Blue Note is keeping their eyes and ears on the street and in the clubs – because here's another late model conceptual triumph – a remix project pairing current innovators in the club and hip hop underground with classic numbers from the label's vaults! The concept is simple; classic numbers are given to handpicked remixers, re-doers, and stylistic misfits best suited to re-work that particular number. Mo Wax maestros La Funk Mob open the set with a mellow, club soul tweak of Wayne Shorter's "Oriental Funk Song". Kenny Dope trips out Bobby Hutcherson's "La Malanga" into a bubbly club funk jam. "Kyoto Jazz Massive" completely re-work Eddie Henderson's "Kudu" into a wonderful number all their own. Perhaps the biggest triumph of all here is the consistency throughout; every artist attached brings their A-game (how could they do any less, given a chance to add their own elements to the some of the most influential numbers they could get their hands on?) Amazing, amazing stuff – whether it's the scratched up, hip hop flavor J Dilla brings to Jack McDuff's "Oblighetto" or the righteous electronic groove Jazzanova drops on Eddie Gale's "Song Of The Will", the minimalist, keys and beats drive Osunlade brings into Grant Green's "A Time To Remember". Every track sparkles! Other tracks include DJ Spinna/Donald Byrd "Lansanna's Priestess", 4 Hero/Horace Silver "Won't You Open Up Your Senses", DJ Cam & Erik Truffaz/Donald Byrd "The Emperor", Herbert/Michel Petrucciani "Caravan" and more! There's a positive-grooving feel here that hangs on throughout – a love of deeper soul mixed with vibrant dancefloor rhythms, in a way that many other labels try for, but never seem to do this well. Titles include "Back To The Top (Waiwan rmx)" by Open Door, "The Bottle (Richard Earnshaw rmx)" by Overstreet with Sharlene Hector, "Galaxy Of Sound" by Milton Jackson, "Do What You Wanna (Terry Hunter rmx)" by Bugz In The Attic present Homecookin, "Funkatuca" by DJ Spinna, "Rhythm Revolution" by Guiro featuring Kriminul, "Flyin" by Steviesole, and "FF To The Money Shot (Dave Storm rmx)" by Guiro featuring Angela Johnson.
