✨✧ Wayne ShorterAll Seeing Eye (RVG remaster edition) ... CD
Blue Note, 1965. Used ... Just Sold Out!
One of the more avant-oriented 60s sessions cut by Wayne Shorter for Blue Note – a record that's not entirely part of the "new thing" generation, but which definitely has Shorter pushing the boundaries from his previous records for the label! The lineup here is a key batch of players who can handle both sides of the fence – inside and outside – Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Grachan Moncur on trombone, Herbie Hancock on piano, James Spaulding on alto, Ron Carter on bass, and Joe Chambers on drums – all players who were really breaking their own boundaries at the time. The set also features work from Wayne's Brother on one track – avant trumpeter Alan Shorter, who's only known for a few records under his own name, and who really brings a great sound to play here. At times, the record builds into a sound that's freer and more challenging than on some of Shorter's other albums from the time – but less in a free jazz mode, than with an overall sense of purpose that really keeps the message clear. Features all original compositions by the Shorter brothers – and cuts include "Chaos", "Face Of The Deep", "Mephistopheles", and "Genesis". CD
(2000 RVG pressing.)

✨✧ FreakwaterFeels Like The Third Time ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 1993. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Haunting traditional country-inspired songwriting a la Carter Family, Louvin Brothers, etc from Freakwater – one of their great early 90s albums on Thrill Jockey. The were young-ish and urban-ish at the time, but they are absolutely the real thing. Aching harmonies, dusty melodies and good damn songs. It can't be overstated how unique Freakwater was in an early-to-mid 90s indie rock atmosphere, either. Includes "Crazy Man", "Pale Horse", "My Old Drunk Friend", "Amelia Earhart", "Are You Ready", "Lullaby" and more. CD
(Original pressing.)

✨✧ Johnny CashJohnny Cash At San Quentin – Complete 1969 Concert (remastered edition) ... CD
Columbia/Legacy, 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
Johnny returns to prison for another incredible set, released in its entirety for the first time with the 9 songs left off of the original LP! Like the Folsom gig, the set was captured by producer Bob Johnston, who also so masterfully recorded Bob Dylan at his most primal. Unlike the Folsom set, in which Johnny was famously accompanied by the Tennessee Three, the San Quentin band was fleshed out to include all of the still performing Carter women, Carl Perkins and the Statler Brothers. Another breathtaking prison recording, featuring the famous version of "A Boy Named Sue" where you hear the crowd going completely nuts. Tracks include "I Walk The Line", "Darlin' Companion", "San Quentin", "Wanted Man", "There'll Be Peace In The Valley", "Ring Of Fire", "He Turned The Water Into Wine", "Daddy Sang Bass", "I Don't Know Where I'm Bound" and more. 18 tracks in all, with lots of previously unreleased photos and essays, including some insight from Merle Haggard – who had, uh, his own little gig at San Quentin if you catch my meaning. CD
Also available Johnny Cash At San Quentin ... LP 24.99

✨✧ VariousChristmas On The Range – 26 Festive & Swinging Country Tunes ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 40s/1950s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really cool collection of vintage country music Christmas tunes – not just hits, but some excellent obscure material – all pulled together in a way that really lives up to the high standards we expect from the Bear Family label! These tracks are pulled together from a variety of labels and sources, and don't just include cowboy numbers you might guess from the "range" in the title – but also western swing, honky tonk, and maybe a few countrypolitan gems as well! The set features 26 titles in all – with great graphics and notes throughout – to accompany titles that include "Santa Claus Is Coming" by Skeeter Davis, "Santa's On His Way" by Bob Wills, "North Pole Boogie" by Billy Briggs, "Christmas Can't Be Far Away" by Eddie Arnold, "Christmas Time's A-Coming" by Bill Monroe, "Jolly Old St Nicholas" by Wilf Carter, "I Wish Everyday Was Christmas" by Ray Salter, "New Baby For Christmas" by George Jones, "Blue Snowfall" by George Morgan, "White Christmas" by Ernest Tubb, "Christmas Carols By The Old Corral" by Tex Ritter, "No Place Like Home On Christmas" by Little Jimmy Dickens, "It's Christmas Time" by The Louvin Brothers, "Home At Christmas" by Nelson Young, "I'm Gonna Lasso Santa" by Brenda Lee, and "We Wanna See Santa Do The Mambo" by Terry Fell. ✨✧ Richard TorranceDouble Take (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Capitol/Big Pink (South Korea), 1978. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Richard Torrance has a beard on the back that's not unlike that of Kenny Loggins or one of the Doobie Brothers – and on this overlooked late 70s gem, he's in very similar territory – well-crafted music that's right up there with the best of the AOR generation, yet like most of Richard's records, a set that never fully got its due! That doesn't stop the whole thing from really pushing forward on all burners – strong original tunes by Torrance, sharp LA production by Carter, and nice support by a studio group. Titles include "Desert Lady", "Long Lonely Nights", "Get Into The Music", "Real Love", "Secrets Of Your Soul", and "Got No Shadow". CD
