✨✧ Cocteau TwinsFour-Calendar Cafe ... CD
Capitol, 1993. Used ... Out Of Stock
The Cocteau Twins have definitely tightened up their sound a bit here since their early days on 4AD – but the group have also held onto everything that's great about their music, and, at some level, use the album as an answer to all of the other groups at the time who were messing about in the "swirl of sound" style they invented a decade before! Long before psych production was revived, fuzzy guitars were cool again, and even analogue elements found new love from the kids – The Cocteau Twins were breaking ground that was fresher than anyone else, and still sounds wonderful here all these many years later. There's definitely a sweetness here that the group never had a few records before – but that's also something that gives the record its really lasting appeal – on songs that include "Theft & Wandering Around Lost", "Oil Of Angels", "Evangeline", "Know Who You Are At Every Age", "Essence", and "Summerhead". ✨✧ Julie LondonCalendar Girl ... LP
Liberty, 1956. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of Julie London's wildest albums – and one of her sexiest too! The record has Julie running through the calendar – singing a song a month, dedicated to January, February, March, and so on – a really great concept for a record like this, in ways that set the album apart from some of London's other classics of the time! The record's certainly one of her campier efforts – but in a great way – and it's further augmented by a great cover that has pinup images of Julie in a setting specific to each month – a cheesecake spectacular that's almost worth the price of admission alone. Titles include "June In January", "February Brings The Rain", "Melancholy March", "Memphis In June", and "Time For August". LP, Vinyl record album

Small Faces78 In The Shade ... LP
Atlantic, 1978. Near Mint- ... $5.99 7.99
78 in the shade, and 78 on the calendar too – 1978, a year when the reborn Small Faces were still sounding plenty darn great! The album follows nicely from the previous Playmates – with the strong rootsy undercurrents as that one, way more than in the group's earlier music – produced tightly, but still at a level that's free from commercial fluff or any too-easy attempts at a hit. Steve Marriott's presence in the lead is great – the the overall presentation is surprisingly free of hoke, and the album falls somewhere in the territory of the best solo material by Ronnie Laine, Rod Stewart, or Ron Wood. Titles include "Over Too Soon", "Brown Man Do", "Real Sour", "Filthy Rich", "Stand By Me", and "Let Me Down Gently". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Donna SummerFour Seasons Of Love ... LP
Casablanca, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Donna Summer also covers spring, autumn and winter here – on an incredibly groovy disco concept album – gorgeously sung by Donna Summer and produced to perfection by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte! It's got 4 long, seasonally-titled tunes and a reprise – with "Spring Affair", "Summer Fever", "Autumn Changes" and "Winter Melody" – and the numbers groove appropriately! The spring groover is breezy, summer's is nice and steamy, the dancefloor grooves shift and phase for autumn, and winter is cool and delicate. One of the finer album-oriented disco releases of the period! LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve and calendar! Cover has wear and aging.)

✨✧ De La SoulGrind Date ... CD
Sanctuary, 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
The first post-Tommy Boy De La Soul album – and it's a winner! We've been on board with De La throughout their long career – anyone with open ears must know that even their spottiest records (and this is NOT one of those) feature at least a handful of treasure tracks. Grind Date is easily the best later De La Soul album, and brevity is as key to the album as the group's proven longevity. 12 tracks, 49 minutes, no skits. Two songs in you'll find the stellar "Verbal Clap", one of J Dilla's finest productions ever, with precise on beat rhymes by De La. Other highlights include "He Comes" with Ghostface, a soulful track that would sound just as great on Ghost's Supreme Clientele. Is Grind Date the new sound for the mid 00s? Will it blaze trails and be co-opted by the next hot producers? Are the lyrics as solid as they could be? Probably not in each scenario, but that's not the point – these guys are consummate musicians, molding their rhyme schemes to the tracks with focus and precision. Most critics will say this is De La's best album since Stakes Is High. We'll say it's better! Featuring production by Dave West, J Dilla, Madlib and 9th Wonder – plus guest appearances by Yummy, Ghostface, Carl Thomas, MF Doom, Common and others. Other tracks include "The Future", "Much More" feat Yummy, "The Grind Date", "Shopping Bags", "Days Of Our Lives" with Common, "Come On Down", "Rock Co. Kane Flow" featuring MF Doom and more. CD

✨✧ Momoko KikuchiTropic Of Capricorn (pink vinyl pressing) ... LP
VAP/Lawson (Japan), 1985. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
An easygoing city pop classic from Momoko Kikuchi – catchy but laidback at the same time – and nicely produced, but with a different vibe than some of the clunkier American work of the time! The record's a great illustration of the way that a singer like Momoko could find just the right balance with the backings – working with a set of arrangements from Tetsuji Hayashi, who also wrote the songs – carrying forward some of the pop and soundtrack styles of the time, and wrapping things up in a well-crafted record for Kikuchi. Titles include "Boy Friend", "Southern Cross Dreaming", "Ai No Surf Break", "Dear Children", and "Calendar Ni Initial". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousJamie 3:26 Presents A Taste Of Chicago ... LP
BBE (UK), 2020. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Jamie 3:26 bills himself as "the next level of house" – and that definitely feels like the case here, as the Chicago DJ serves up very long edits and mixes of a host of great tracks – one club cut from the mid 70s, Chicago house classics from the late 80s, and a few underground tracks from more recent years! Jamie really brings a lot to the music here – emphasizing the greatness of the tunes in ways that we never would have expected, yet still keeping the genius of the originals intact – at a level that finally gives the rest of the world a chance to hear what he can bring to a well-crafted set on the dancefloor! Titles include "Venus & Mars (Jamie 3:26 edit)" by BSTC, "Comin On Strong (Jamie 3:26 basement edit)" by Calendar, "It's House (Jamie's basement edit)" by Chip E, "Jungle (Jamie's jungle sounds edit)" by Jungle Wonz, "Lesson (Doc Brucio's orig mix – Jamie 3:26 edit)" by Mighty Science, "Mind Games (underground mix – Jamie 3:26 edit)" by Quest, and "Stomps N Shouts (Jamie 3:26 edit)" by Braxton Holmes.
