Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee EagerLove We Have ... LP
Mercury, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $2.99
Duets between Jerry Butler and Brenda Lee Eager – done as serious, adult oriented soul tracks, one side of the album in an optimistic "The Love We Have" setting, the other in a sadder "The Love We Had" setting – both of them handled in a mode that's far far different than Jerry's 60s duets with Betty Everett. As with most of Jerry's Mercury work at the time, there's some wonderful tunes on the album – including a few numbers written by Terry Callier or Billy Butler – and the whole thing's produced with a subtle approach that creates a solid warm mellow soul vibe throughout. Very hip stuff – and heck, the inside cover even quotes Kenneth Rexroth! Titles include "Lean On Me", "As The Seasons Change", "I Like Your Lovin", "Can't Understand It", "How Long Will It Last", and "Were We Lovers, "Were We Friends". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Brenda LeeRockin' Around The Christmas Tree – The Decca Christmas Recordings ... LP
Decca, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Brenda Lee was quite a big artist back in the day – and although the rest of her catalog has faded from view over the years, she's very well-remembered for her classic approach to a Holiday tune! Brenda was always a little bit country and a little bit rock and pop – and that blend makes for a great sound on a selection of Christmas tunes that includes the big title hit, plus 17 other numbers that Lee recorded during her years at Decca Records – almost all of them with that twang and punch that makes Brenda's sound so great! Titles include "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree", "This Time Of Year", "Jingle Bell Rock", "The Angel & The Little Blue Bell", "A Marshmallow World", "Strawberry Snow", "White Christmas", "Silver Bells", "Christy Christmas", "Papa Noel", and "I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Claus". LP, Vinyl record album

Brenda HollowayEvery Little Bit Hurts ... CD
Tamla/Motown (Japan), 1964. New Copy ... $9.99
Classic heartbreaking soul from Brenda Holloway – one of the weepiest early records on Motown, as you might guess from the title! The style here is almost more New York uptown than Detroit at times – a fair bit like Maxine Brown with its mix of strength and fragility on the vocals, and scored by the Davis/Gordon team with a subtle sense of drama. Strings step in on most numbers, but never in a sleepy way – and there's plenty of nicely stepping tunes here that maintain a good sense of Motown rhythm, even in mellower moments. Titles include "Sad Song", "I've Been Good To You", "Every Little Bit Hurts", "Too Proud To Cry", "A Favor For A Girl", "Suddenly", "You Can Depend On Me", and "Can I". CD
(Part of the Motown Did It First Series!)
