Sonny Clark Memorial Quartet —
Voodoo ... CD Black Saint (Italy), 1986. Used ...
Out Of Stock
A seminal album from the 80s New York scene – not only because it brought some long-overdue attention to Sonny Clark (whose records were mostly out of print at the time), but also because it reminded the world that JohnZorn could blow hardbop! The album features a set of classic Clark originals from the glory days of his Blue Note years – recast here by Zorn on alto sax, and a quartet that also features Wayne Horvitz on keyboards, Ray Drummond on bass, and BobbyPrevite on drums. The energy's different than an older Sonny Clark record, but the sound is still plenty darn great – and titles include "Sonia", "Voodoo", "Sonny's Crib", "Nicely", "Minor Meeting", and "Cool Struttin".
