Ghost Funk OrchestraNew Kind Of Love (transparent red vinyl pressing) ... LP
Karma Chief/Colemine, 2022. New Copy Gatefold ... $16.99 24.99
A new kind of love, and a new kind of groove from Ghost Funk Orchestra – one that's deeper than ever before, even though the group is really just the efforts of producer/instrumentalist Seth Applebaum! Yet this time around, he's also got some great female vocals at a few points – bringing a soulful focus to the energy that spins out at other points in a more instrumental mode – funky but moody at the same time, with a richness in sonic territory that takes the whole thing way past the early funky 45s that first bore the Ghost Funk name. Titles include "A Song For Pearl", "Bluebell", "Rooted", "Quiet Places", "Scatter", "Why", Your Man's No Good", and "A New Kind Of Love (parts 1 & 2)". LP, Vinyl record album
(Indie exclusive red vinyl pressing – with download!)

BluebellsSisters (2CD edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), 1984. New Copy 2CDs ... $18.99 27.99
Super-groovy work from The Bluebells – a Scottish group who should have been one of the bigger acts from the British Isles in the 80s, but who broke up before ever getting the shot they deserved! There's plenty of smart songwriting here – and a production approach that's in the territory of Prefab Sprout or some of their better contemporaries – nicely understated at times, so that the tunes can cross over, but also aren't destined to get overplayed on mainstream radio. If you dig 80s UK pop, you'll find plenty here to discover – a real overlooked legacy that includes the tracks "Learn To Love", "Young At Heart", "I'm Falling", "Cath", "Red Guitars", "Syracuse University", "South Atlantic Way", and "The Patriot Game". 2CD edition is overflowing with bonus material – 22 bonus cuts that include non-LP singles, b-sides, extended versions, and five never-issued tunes! Bonus titles include "Holland", "Tender Mercy", "Smalltown Martyr", "All I Ever Said", "Fall From Grace", "Happy Birthday Turn Gold", and "Forevermore". CD

✨✧ Patti Labelle & The BluebellesDreamer ... LP
Atlantic, Mid 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Probably the best early album that Patti Labelle ever recorded – and one that pushes way past the mix of girl group and pop material she'd been handling previously. The record begins with the killer cut "Dreamer", written by Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham – then it moves into a host of great lesser-known tracks and mature compositions, like Curtis Mayfield's "I'm Still Waiting", and the tunes "One Phone Call", "Take Me For A Little While", "Tender Words", "Don't Want To Go On Without You", and Burt Bacharach's great "Always Something There To Remind Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo green & blue label pressing. Cover looks great!)

✨✧ Labelle & The BluebellesLabelle & The Bluebelles – Early Hits ... LP
Trip, Mid 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of a number of 70s repackagings of Patti Labelle's early work with The Bluebelles – done, in this instance, to appear to be a collection of work by then supergroup Labelle! The cover's got Patti in a 70s silvery outfit – but the work is all early 60s girl group soul, mostly early singles from the start of Patti's work with The Bluebelles. Titles include "I Sold My Heart to The Junkman", "Where Are You", "Down The Aisle", "Tear After Tear", "Have I Sinned", "One Phone Call", and "Impossible". LP, Vinyl record album

Newtown, 1962. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Early work from Patti Labelle and The Bluebelles – simple girl group stuff mostly, but with a raw quality to the vocals that's quite nice! 7-inch, Vinyl record
