CeliaCelia ... CD
Continental/Mr Bongo (UK), 1972. New Copy ... $11.99
A beautifully groovy album from Celia Reis – maybe the hippest set ever from this Brazilian singer who was equally at home in samba and bossa modes! Production and arrangements are by Arthur Verocai – which will give you an idea of the creativity that went into the record – as Verocai creates all these ambitious grooves that are very much in the best territory of some of the funky Marcos Valle work at the start of the 70s – basslines dipping under strings, all topped with Celia's wonderful vocals – which have a power here that we've never heard on other records – almost a Gal Costa sort of touch! Tracks include tunes by Valle, Verocai, and others – and titles include "Em Familia", "Mia", "Vida De Artista", "Dominus Tecum", "Ay Adelita", "Toda Quarta Feira Depois Do Amor", "A Hora E Essa", "E Preciso Dizer ADeus", and "Badalacao". CD

Cecil TaylorNefertiti The Beautiful One Has Come (Live At The Cafe Montmartre) ... LP
Arista/Freedom, 1975. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... $19.99
Excellent Artista/Freedom reissue that brings together the full set from Cecil's 1962 performance at Cafe Monmartre. He's playing here in a trio that has Jimmy Lyons on alto and Sonny Murray on drums, and the music's a key link between his later seventies stuff, and his earlier work that you can find on OJC reissues. The set has 2 takes of "Lena", plus "Trance", "What's New?", "Nefertiti, The Beautiful One Has Come", and "D Trad, That's What". With great liner notres, too! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some ring & edge wear, with a bit of waviness at the bottom half.)

✨✧ Bobby BroomStand! ... CD
Premonition, 2001. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great new set from Chicago guitarist Bobby Broom – an excellent player, who, apart from a few albums on Artista in the early 80s, has never really gotten his dues! In the intervening years since those albums, Broom's increased his capabilities tremendously – taking off from his Grant Green-inspired sound, into whole new realms of chromatic and melodic expression. This brilliant set was produced with a very subtle flair – a spaciousness that's not part of that fake "brightness" that you'd hear on some of the newer jazz recordings that often ruin classic artists, but which is part of Broom's increasingly complex approach to jazz guitar. The group's a simple trio with bass and drums behind his lead – and tracks include "Stand", "I Will", "Come Back As A Flower", and a version of Phil Upchurch's classic "Monday Monday", who Broom shares a bit of sound with!
