Gypsy LanePredictions ... CD
Drive/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1978. New Copy ... $12.99 15.99
Gypsy Lane were produced here by Jacques Morali, of Village People fame – but don't hold that against them, as the set's got a deeper vibe than you might expect! The group seem pretty tight on their own already – and work more as a tight ensemble funk group than the kind of disco studio creations Morali was more tied to – grooving at a level that seems informed by the best mid 70s advances of Earth Wind & Fire, which includes some warmer moments next to the uptempo cuts. Lead vocals are by Alfonso Carey, but other members of the group often harmonize alongside – and titles include "Show Me How To Groove", "We'll Have Love", "Hey Sister", and "I Could Use Some Loving". ✨✧ VariousCanto A Lo Divino ... LP
Mississippi, 2023. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Sacred sounds from the Chilean scene – music that's delivered mostly with just a voice and guitar, in a stripped-down sense of expression that's very personal overall! There's often a blue tinge to the vocals, and in some way, the tracks here almost resonate with Appalachian acoustic music, especially of the more spiritual variety! As with other Mississippi Records packages, we might never have heard these sounds otherwise – and the whole thing comes with a big booklet of notes that really illuminates the sounds within – on tracks that include "Por Muerto" by Ivan Saavedra, "Por Noe" by Jose Millahuino Castro, "Por Nascimento" by Honorio Quila, "Por Jose" by Alfonso Rubio, "Por Sodoma Y Gomorra" by Ema Madariaga, and "Por Despedimiento De Angelito" by Javier Salinas. LP, Vinyl record album
