A Festa E Nossa

LP (Item 969539) Phoenix Spink (Brazil), 1988 — Condition: Near Mint-

A rare Brazilian album from the 80s, but one that's quite different than you might expect – as these guys have a clear love of keyboards that resonate with some of the bigger electro pop acts of the UK and European scene of the time! The group's really just a duo – Billy Jaguar and Gel Valiery, who play keyboards, guitar, drums, and also trade vocals – usually in a mode that's relatively spare, and which makes for these melodic numbers that are a few steps back from more produced work of the mainstream. That quality really gives the songs a lot of charm, even if you can't understand the Portuguese lyrics – and titles include "Panico Geral", "A Festa E Nossa", "Barra Pesada", "Primavera", "Noite Eterna", "Sentimentos", "O Gato E O Rato", and "Vital O Marginal".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Recent UK reissue on Soundway.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

You know, despite the fact that this one was recorded in the mid 80s, when we felt that Tania's great jazzy vocal style was being buried in excessive arrangements – in retrospect, it's actually got some darn nice moments. A really great bit of Brazilian rock – with a feel that's hard and heavy, but also has nice traces of pop, and which reminds us a lot of work by Peruvian group We All Together! One of the better early bossa albums by Bonfa, and one that doesn't have the sleepy quality that you find on some of his other records.
