LP (Item 942207) Disques AZ (France), 1972 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold

Killer work from Michel Polnareff – one of our favorite French pop singers ever – and one of the few who could mix in a trippy style with some of the more upbeat modes of a few years before! Backings here are from a very cool combo – Dynastie Crisis – who use heavy drums, organ, and fuzzy guitar with some wonderfully echoey production which only seems to give the sound an even more watery vibe than some of Polnareff's previous records! The sound feels live – although we can't tell for sure from the notes – and we've also been told that Jean-Claude Vannier had a hand in the larger arrangements. Titles include "La Mouche", "La Trompette", "Qui A Tue Grand Maman", "Ame Caline", "Dans La Maison Vide", "Gloria", and "Love Me Please Love Me".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Japanese pressing, on Sony, from the 70s – in a heavy gatefold cover!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brigitte Bardot (with Serge Gainsbourg)

Special Bardot
Burlington, 1968. Very Good
A very cool album – a promo-only set for a 1968 TV special that featured Brigitte Bardot on American TV! Brigitte sings a number of songs solo, does two duets with Sacha Distel, and two more with Serge Gainsbourg – the last of which are very noteworthy in that Serge sings an English ... Serge Gainsbourg

Tenue De Soiree
Apache (France), 1986. Near Mint-
An overlooked Serge Gainsbourg soundtrack from the 80s – surprisingly well-done, and at a level that both reflects Serge's earlier styles and a much deeper ear for film scoring! There's a main theme that's delivered with this beautifully echoey piano line – sometimes playful, sometimes ... LP, Vinyl record album

This is the US issue of the 1969 album that Serge and Jane Birkin cut together, and every track is a groovy French classic, of the sort that made Serge a legend! Later work by Serge, but still pretty darn groovy! The album is Serge's follow-up to his groundbreaking album Aux Armes Et Cetera – a session recorded in Jamaica with Sly & Robbie, and done in a heavy-stepping reggae style. A sexy soundtrack to a mid-70s film written and directed by Serge Gainsbourg – and starring Jane Birkin and a young Gerard Depardieu! Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band

Unconditionally Guaranteed
Mercury, 1974. Near Mint-
Not the Captain's finest moment, but still better than 80% of all the records ever made. Zoot Horn Rollo and Rockette Morton are still on board to lend a helping hand on these fairly tame, by Beefheart standards, numbers, including "Upon The My-O-My", "Sugar Bowl", "New ... LP, Vinyl record album

A seminal 70s set from this key Aussie band – one that almost had more of an impact here in the US than they did in their homeland!
